I just bought a P750DM2 to hold me over until I finish my desktop build. There's not a laptop in the world that can compete with my desktop, even using my old Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Gaming G1 GPUs running SLI, which will be replaced with the new Volta cards.![]()

I just discovered the 1070 upgrade kit from Eurocom isn't SLI compatible, you can only upgrade to a single 1070
http://www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,348,0)ec
A single 1070 isn't quite as fast as a 980m SLI, but in single GPU only games the 1070 is much faster. -
Just curious, are the soldered cpu models that Sager/Clevo sells considered BGA?

Everything soldered on the motherboard is BGA
Regardless if it's Processor or graphics.

Therefore go a step up. P7/8 series CLEVO has preferred LGA + MMX
-
Impressive machine.. and quite the bold statement. I'd wager some folk in the benchmark threads sporting 1080SLI will see that as a challenge

I'm still waiting for my money tree to bloom to make that possible.

Or do like me. Rather save up more money(no matter how long this takes) than buying something I don't want, because of the lack of enough cash. Should I bought BGA, it would be a cheap Chromebook or similar for a maximum of $ 400. And not a gaming BGABOOK pricier than this limit. But that's me

What's their weight like? After seeing many other laptops, I strongly prefer socketed solutions but also don't wanna carry something too heavy lest I injure my back again
-
Well, for that, you can fudge on saving, to a degree. Specifically, you can save until you get a single 1080 DM3 with a grid so that buying a second card is easy (or buying the sli 1180 kit when it arrives) and upgrading to the 7700K (unless you just buy that version if it takes until February to save).
Meanwhile, since Kaby lake pch is z180 chipset, and cannonlake will use a 200 union point chipset, Kaby lake will be the last chip on this machine. Because ice lake will go back to FIVR, cannonlake will not be compatible with ice lake or tiger lake. So, even though cannonlake will begin rolling out the lower forms in 2H 2017, the S series may not arrive until early 2018. I'd recommend buying now or with Kaby lake, skip cannonlake, and buy ice lake for the next longer lived node. I do not know if coffeelake (cannonlake on 14nm with 6 cores) will be compatible with Kaby lake pch or the z170 yet, but that is the most sensible upgrade path (short of the 2066 CPUs starting with skylake-X)...
I wish you luck!
That's a caselab T10_, correct?

There is the P870DM3 with SLI desktop 1080s, which are faster than 980TI cards.
I understand if you go 2x Titan X (pascal) and 6-core + CPUs but there are some beasty laptops out there.
My Clevo P570WM had a socket 2011 desktop 10-core Xeon. -
That works to about 7kg...
Way too high for me :O -
Most are under our around 5KG. Look up the specific model on Clevo site for exact weight.

P775DM2/3 With socket hardware is around 4.3Kg. Then you have to add the psu. The new BGABOOK from Alienware is heavier
The 15 inches P750/751 is around 3.4KG. Msi 15" Barbones is also a great option if you like performance from decent socket hardware!!Last edited: Oct 18, 2016ajc9988 likes this. -
Oh I'm going on four months of pondering choices. My laptop fund has been growing and shrinking due to higher priorities. Like.. small kid turned on sink in bathroom and walked away for a minute.. smoke alarms go off.. what's this water dripping through the ceiling.. hello master bath tear out.
Life happens lol.

Indeed, my machine benches like a desktop with a pair of overclocked 1080s which will sing past the 980Ti. Of course a pair of titan XPs would be faster. -
Don't wait for too long. The situation is not likely to improve with time. Compromise is similar to an incurable form of cancer. It spreads silently, and you may not even be aware that it is there until the point of no return. Better to be a bit heavier and live to fight more battles than to die with a lower BMI.Ashtrix likes this.

You have good points there; an upgrade is more or less inevitable, and in fact, desired (then again I don't play as many games on the PC as before. Heck, I play on my iPad nowadays). I have to wait only cos of the cashflow. I will need to make a good decision on what exactly I need: more mobility and cheaper or more upgradability (assuming that parts are still widely available that is) and having a TB3 port?

You did read post #1 for this thread?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/anyone-else-disappointed.795318/
This thread is about the failure of upgradeability of the P870DM.
No compatible Pascal MXM upgrades were forthcoming from Clevo. Everyone was told to sell their P870DM laptop and to purchase a new P870DM2/DM2 to upgrade to the next generation Pascal GPU's.
Instead of upgrading their P870DM with Pascal MXM GPU's they were told their P870DM was incompatible with the new Pascal MXM cards use in the new P870DM2/DM3.
Upgrades aren't assured even with a socketed CPU and a MXM GPU.
Something to consider, lest disappoint surprises again.
MSI has also failed to provide 2 generations of promised MXM GPU upgrades, failing to deliver even one.
Something to consider when making purchasing decisions and planning long term use - you can't depend on upgrades being there when needed, and expected.
Ending in Disappointment, which is the subject of this thread...Last edited: Oct 19, 2016xxax likes this. -
Well, this is too on my mind, especially when my current machine can't be upgraded too despite the possibilities presented by having a socketed CPU and GPU; the BIOS being another factor that I did not see during my purchase. But this time round the TB3 port may make a difference but the FUD of whether the same thing will happen to me again is kinda holding me back too (and also, how will this factor into my IT ecosystem too, but that's another topic for another thread I guess).hmscott likes this.

@bloodhawk what do u think ???hmscott likes this. -
Definitely a great solution, the price might be a downer for some. End of the day though, the performance for all TB3 based solutions will be the same, give or take about 5% if you use the additional ports at the same time.
-
I got a question for u is it possible to loopback the grapchics card in tb3 on internal screen or so u need an external monitor and also wats the perf. Hit
I saw ur thread on techinferno u used m.2ssd slot as input what is performance hit compared to tb3 port ? -
-
The same thread has benchmarks from both - Using it over TB3 and Using it over m. 2. The Performance hit over TB3 is pretty significant specially for someone like me, if I have the option of using something @ 150% at the cost of the setup looking ugly, I will gladly do that. I don't quite care about portability or convenience.
But if you plan on using a 1070 , that would be the best option to be used as an egpu over TB3. And might even be able to handle a bit of overclocking.
Also loop back is only Possible on systems with internal graphics / optimus etc.

Spending that much on a dock and having the room for it you would have the room and budget for a a decent monitor too most likely.

Man today I was at the mall and saw an Acer Predator X17 so I tried typing on it, whoaaaaa what a huge difference! they keyboard is amazing! makes my Clevo P870DM3 keyboard feel so tiny. very nice large keys with great key travel, each key is well separated from the other so you'd never mistype a key! I only imagine the Predator X21 would be better. What a shame that it has BGA CPUs

More than the BGA thing is the price. I would freaking never pay more than $4k for a quad core LGA system.Last edited: Jan 11, 2017TomJGX, Donald@Paladin44, TBoneSan and 2 others like this.

For me is performance most important. I can use a external keyboard if the one on the laptop bothers me. But you can't put in extra performance in a Jokebook if you aren't happy with how the machine works.
All of the BGA systems are completely unacceptable for me. And even machines with preferred socket hardware but with crippled performance is a big NO from me. I wouldn't even touch jokebooks to check the quality in any store. I only go straight past the filth.Donald@Paladin44, TBoneSan and ajc9988 like this. -
Just wanna know if you tried the latest pascal card yet, for example like GTX 1060m

Well anyone can beat Clevo when it comes to keyboards to be honest.. Has the worst keyboard ever.. Asus keyboards are good and the Alienware ones are good too!!
