Where did you hear that SagerClevo are working on a Win8 directed BIOS update?

I assume you mean support for Win8's Secure Boot feature, so that one doesnt have to load manually EFI EVERY TIME.

    Is that right?

    Thanks!

I did what you're supposed to. Speak with your reseller and contacted Sager. Clevo was waiting for release of the final version of Win8, though they should have had a copy back in August. Oh well, as long as it's coming.

Glad to see it's working for you after all the crashes you experienced.

As for me, I use Windows as a platform to run games, and although I did make the mistake of upgrading instead of doing a clean install, the neverending BSODs in Win 8 freaked the hell outa me, so count me out for this round.

Maybe I'll join on halftime, after a few major updates or a good SP comes along. I'm not sure though - old dog, new tricks, this sort of thing. I just wanna run some games, you know?

So far games have been running more smoothly and stable for me, guess AMD really likes Windows 8.

While that may indeed be the case, my point was that games still run perfectly fine on 7, which is the main reason I use my OS for.

two pci controllers? one of them is an intel firmware/utility something or other (SRT maybe) and the other i still haven't cared to figure out yet--i think it's probably the same thing. i don't believe either of them are necessary.

he was probably talking about IRST - intel rapid storage technology. its for the internal sata controllers.

ive got win8 installed on my p150hm but left it at home over the weekend, while im out and about, so cant check it for you unfortunately.

Nope, don't need it at all. I don't install it at least. You only want it if you have RAID. Some claim it improves even without raid, I disagree, no noticeable difference. INF already has AHCI controller drivers.

It's up to you, you can do either. Personally think on non-raid systems, makes no difference.

Also discovered it does make a difference if you EFI install of Windows 8. I know you didn't, so doesn't matter. EFI is fun because at boot even before the OS is loaded, UEFI will load drivers ahead of time. So for that it made a difference. I just installed it. Without EFI on my first install of Win 8, made no difference.

But maybe it's just system, try it for yourself.

Very sure it's not. Post a screenshot. Windows 8 already has drivers built if for your HDD and controller, so I doubt it's that. You don't need to install Intel INF or IRST, Windows 8 already has drivers for that. It's just nice to install em yourself as you can find updated drivers usually.

SRT is when you use an mSATA drive as a cache, to increase speed. If you already have a SSD, not very useful. But if you use a HDD, then it's useful.

RST is just for raid, or whatever.

just installed Win 8 on my W110er. However, had to uninstall the intel USB3 drivers and for some reason, I'm operating in USB2 mode all the time despite Win 8 having its own drivers. Not sure whether to wait for a Win 8 version of the Intel USB3 driver or to do a refresh install of win 8 and hope those drivers load.

why did u uninstall the intel usb3 drivers in the first place? u could always try and install them with driver signature enforcement disabled.

Installed 8 Pro on my Acer Aspire 5315 (circa 2007). It installs very smoothly. Did a clean install over the existing Vista installation. All the hardware is properly recognized with drivers except my Intel 6235 adapter. I'm using the latest Win 7 drivers for both WiFi & MyWifi. For Bluetooth I've tried the generic MS drivers in Win 8 and Intel's 2.6.x driver. Neither will allow my phone's audio to pair.
It works well with 2 monitors and while the Start Screen isn't as useful as it may eventually become, it does look like it will become better once more & better apps result. Performance & memory usage are much improved over Vista. This is a good upgrade from Vista. Once more apps & drivers are developed & updated this will improve.

I'm surprised you did not go for 7 since that was a good upgrade from vista, especially for the older machines.

As for the pairing, are there any other driver versions you can try?

I don't think that anyone has actually said if the Dreamspark W8 Pro is the full version or an upgrade. Can I take what I get off of Dreamspark and use that to install the OS on a blank drive?

Having to upgrade would mean paying for and installing Windows 7 first which would be rather annoying.

I bought the $39 Windows 8 Pro upgrade by download method.

I put it on a 4GB USB Flash drive and did a clean install on a 240GB SanDisk Extreme SSD that previously had Windows 7 x64 HP.

On the screen after a Custom Clean installation is chosen I used the disk utility to format and delete all showing partitions until only 1 remained that showed exactly the same in size and availability.

The files installed very quickly and after a few settings changes in a custom setup I was at the Metro Screen.

I went to the desktop, then did a right click in the corner>system and saw I was activated.

No registry tweak was necessary on my MSI GT780DX.

Since I did the 1st installation on Oct 26th I've done 14 reinstallations trying to find cures for the bugs I experience that I don't experience using Windows 7 x64 HP

After each clean installation it was automatically activated.

    I will try it on 2 x 240GB SanDisk Extreme R0 next.

Okay so I wasn't going to upgrade, but after getting the $15 Win8 Pro deal, I thought I'd try it out. It's really one of the best software upgrades I've ever made. It's nice to see an OS being released with a focus on optimizing performance instead of weighing the OS down with more useless features that requires a faster performing computer. I personally don't like Metro, but after installing Start8 the interface is nearly indistinguishable from Win7.

The only real problem I have with it so far is that browsers (Firefox, Chrome) can get stuck after filling out a form online. Also, Firefox has some weird graphical glitches around the "back" button for some reason.

Unfortunately the lag problem still exists, but SRWare looks like a really nice browser (much quicker than Chrome). I am using the latest Firefox.

I would recommend installing the Intel USB 3.0 drivers. Unfortunately Intel decided not to release it for Win8 saying the default MS ones are fine. They aren't. Not even close, the MS drivers operate as if it's USB 2.0 and on our USB 3.0, I find it even worse, sort of broken. Maybe just on my system. But to solve it you can disable driver enforcement and use a modified INI file to install it. And at least for me, it's night and day difference. I had a lot of latency issues when using my controller when playing Most Wanted, but that fixed it for me.

How and where do I get the generic "Touchstrip Fingerprint Sensor - WBF version?". I tried uninstalling the Authentec/Sager version and went in and even deleted the actual files let over but everytime I restart my computer the Authentec versions always get reinstalled for some unknown reason. I did a scan for any Authentec version driver files on my hard drive and deleted them manually. So why does my System 8 still load the Authentec ones? Strange.
