@clevo-extreme You said You won't do it and not that it cannot be done. Thats 2 different things. Also I did not say I need a 30 PIN to 40 PIN converter, but a 40 PIN cable instead of the 30 PIN one.

I have an idea for the ideal notebook in terms of specs (i7 6700HQ, 16GB RAM, GTX 950M, Optical Bay Slot, 1080p/ 1440p/ 4k IPS screen, USB 3.1 Thunderbolt 3 port, 1HDD slot, massive battery, under 900$) which would be really cool to have. Does anyone know where I can suggest this? Also, will we ever see Thunderbolt 3 implemented on <1000$ models, as I personally want something light yet moderately powerful on the GPU side which transforms into a gaming monster when I come back home, but only >2000$ models with desktop 980s feature it which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me :( :p

As of right now, there aren't a lot of models with Thunderbolt 3 on them. As you mentioned, most of them are going to be the higher end systems at this point in a lot of cases. There really aren't any Clevo models at this time with those specs, but hopefully some time in the future we might see more models coming out with it. The closest model I can think at this time would be an Asus UX501 or MSI GS60 4k model, but that is still going to be above the price you mentioned though.

I'm looking to purchase a P650x (not quite sure which variant yet, or I may even go with a P750DM ... too many choices). Anyway, I'm curious how people decide which reseller to purchase from. I realize one way is to just choose who's ever the cheapest; but that can backfire if you need support in one way or another. And I plan on upgrading to a 3 year warranty, so the company's viability is also of concern (assuming the reseller isn't offering a 3rd party warranty). For me, it's okay to spend more if (big IF) the reseller adds value, but I hate it when you pay more and get nothing in return.

Any thoughts, advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Paul

p.s., The resellers that I'm considering are: Eurocom, ExoticPC, LPC Digital, mySN, Mythlogic, RJTech, and SagerNotebook. If there are others that I should add to this list, please let me know.

    Hi Paul

It would be handy to let us know where you are located, because the companies that you have listed are mostly in N. American but we are based in Europe (UK & German offices). If you're in Europe then of course I would recommend ordering from a European country because of the currency, shipping and warranty options/coverage. If in N. American then you may find a better option from a closer seller!

Sorry, that's kind'a critical information isn't it ... I'm in the United States (specifically Virginia).

I agree that in the best of all possible worlds it would be better to make my purchase from a reseller in N. America ... but I'd really like to have the Sharp LQ156D1JW04 4K panel, which is available in the W506. And, other than Eurocom, I've yet to find another reseller who will supply that panel. So why not go with Eurocom? Well, their pricing seems way high as compared to others, and I'm not sure what the value add is.

If I were to purchase from mySN, would I still be able to get warranty coverage (with the realization that there's trans-Atlantic shipping involved)?

It's no problem for us to ship to the States at all, you can do this through the .co.uk website directly and once you have selected the shipping country (once you click on Add To Cart) the website will deduct the 20% UK sales tax. Just bear in mind that you will need to pay import tax @ 5.3% for Virginia.

The warranty works the same internationally as it does in Europe, just the shipping costs to take into account but we can use our DHL account for international shipping and collections to take care of any import/export requirements. We have considered offering an international shipping coverage warranty option but we're still deciding on this, would have to charge more for this and considering our RMA rate is pretty low we're not sure how attractive this would be to customers.
The main reason we have the Sharp panel is because we don't offer the Samsung 4K - it's much cheaper than the Sharp but far inferior quality, however it does support G-Sync unlike the Sharp 4K.

    Thanks for the information!

I've read in some of the other threads that the G-Sync panel's are the cause of some light bleed ... so, for my uses, being non-G-Sync is actually a plus.

The heatsinks are black in the P870DM:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Schenker-XMG-U726-Clevo-P870DM-Notebook-Review.153136.0.html

You should be able to buy an adapter and second PSU from your laptop supplier - recommend asking them as they should have access to the part and/or stock themselves :)

So - although I understand that this ISN'T the place to ask for discounts - I'm having trouble figuring out where we're supposed to do that...

I'm looking to buy this today, although ideally I'd want to have 1x 16GB instead of the 2x 8GB sticks: How do I see what the different vendors can do? I couldn't figure out how to PM them either... :(

*** EDIT *** to be clear - I'd rather not pay retail for the below, plus expedited shipping, etc... so would like to see if anyone is willing to offer a better deal :) thanks! db

@Barlaam - you need more than 5 posts in order to be able to send a pm on nbr, that's likely why it's prooving troublesome!

We have a sale on at the moment if you're happy to order from us, the discount and UK sales tax will be automatically deducted at the checkout stage once you enter the shipping country as the US. If you're interested then I would recommend emailing us through our .co.uk website (I can't link to it here as it's against forum rules), our sales staff are keeping an eye on emails this weekend due to the sale :)

    Hi Alex...
    Thanks for the help!
Does Sager warranty the products that they make and you sell on your website or does Xotic do so exclusively?
I'm a bit lost as to how this works...

    Thanks...

I think the only couple ones I have seen out there are maybe the 2nd quarter of this year possibly? I'm not sure if i have any specific dates yet.

In theory... maybe. Not sure if the eGPUs coming out will all be proprietary to specific brands, or if Clevo or resellers will provide any kind of support for them either. I'm not sure if maybe I missed something recently about that, but it might be too soon to really tell.

Hi there. Question for the Xotic folks - back in December around the holidays I saw the Sager NP8657-S selling for $1,319.00. I'm now seeing it at the same price, but it says $165 instant rebate. I tried adding to my cart but it stays the same price.... does the $165 come off once you place the actual order or what?

I saw the "Xotic Guys" as kind of reaching out... my bad. Plus I was all excited to beat Alex to a post, then go trash talk him in his office.

But I'll make sure I don't do it again. Thanks for the reminder!

Question for @Prostar Computer - Do you guys have any plans to partner up with Prema for their Modded BIOS on Clevo systems, like several other resellers have? Specifically the P870DM-G models? I think your customers (me, for example) would really appreciate having more access to their BIOS than what the stock BIOS offers.

    https://biosmods.wordpress.com/partner/

    Thanks.

    Hi there Netherscourge!

Currently there are no plans to become a partner. We are sticking with official BIOS releases from Clevo only for the time being. Prema does good work, and our lack of collaboration in no way reflects us thinking otherwise.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully they go public with it in the near future. I simply prefer to have 100% control over my system BIOS. I'm not a big overclocker, but I am willing to downtune/undervolt/etc... a bit to maintain 100% CPU performance without throttling. (aka, keeping the temps below threshold) I'm sure I can do that with a 3rd party Windows program of some sort though. It would just be preferable to have it set directly into the BIOS by default and not have to use any additional software.

Anyway, I just got my Prostar Clevo this afternoon! I'll crack it open this evening and give it a go! Thanks!

    questions to all resellers
    1) Please detail ALL the differences between the p775dm and the p775dm1(external, internal, thermals, components support, BIOS and anything else)
2)Please differentiate between the p750dm and the p775dm with the same detail.
3)Have any of you shipped to India before. What are all the costs involved?
    Thanks in advance.

    1) Looking at the Clevo spec sheets, the P775DM is set up for the mobile MXM graphics cards. The P775DM1 has the 980 desktop graphics card.
    2) P750DM is a 15 inch model, P775DM is a 17 inch. Specs are almost identical. 750 and 770 also have a rubber paint finish, where the 775 doesn't.
    3) Yes, many of us have before, including us. You would need to reach out to the individual resellers for pricing and details though.

Thank you for the reply, I guess I should have mentioned that I've looked up the Clevo website, gone through a few manuals and participated in the owners lounges for a few months now so I already know the basics. I was hoping you guys could shed some more light on the actual performance and temperature differences between the p750dm and the p775dm if configured with the same components. Is there a difference in the chassis/motherboard between the p775dm and dm1 (eg. If the extra power connector for high powered MXM cards exists on the p775dm) or is it just a BIOS difference?
Also I would appreciate it if you could give an estimate of the additional costs(import duty%, shipping...) Over the base price on your website (you could just PM me on this).

Unfortunately, the 775DM hasn't been released yet, so a lot of that is still yet to be seen. Sager (who we sell) hasn't started offering it, and we haven't been able to get our hands on it. I don't think a lot of that would be available until it starts shipping out.

    Hi,

Does anyone know when the P650RE6 (or similar) will be updated with USB 3.1 Type-C and thunderbolt?

I know that the P751DM have it, but look for something lighter (no more than 2.5kg)

    Welcome to the forum!

I don't think I have heard of any kind of dates for a new refreshed version of the model. Normally models get updated whenever new CPUs or GPUs launch. Not 100% sure if they will add Thunderbolt/Type C at that point, but I would think that would most likely be the time it would happen.

I think this is as close as you will get to direct comparisons - I added the P771DM as it's a 17" model, opposed to only comparing the P775 (17") with the P751 (15"). Because the P775 supports the GTX 980 we have only sent review systems out with this card, not the 980M which is the top option in the P751. Cooling will be slightly better n the larger 17" chassis though.

The P775DM was released in November/December 2015 so has been around for quite a while - often overlooked because of the P870DM even though with the slightly less powerful GTX 980 (180W vs 200W) the P775 is extremely similar in performance and also cheaper because of the lack of a second MXM slot!

Refresh of the chassis will be later in the year with Pascal, I could answer the Type-C question but would have to break NDA, so will have to leave the Type-C answer to someone else!

Hey resellers! Can you guys tell me about the Clevo P650RZ (Sager NP3652). Is the build quality of it plastic like the W650RC, or metal like the P650RE/RG models? I really like the specs on it, and I liked the W650RC even more but the plastic build is sort of a deal breaker compared to the sturdier P650RE/RG models.

The NP3652 is actually supposed to be a W650RZ. I know our site has it listed as a P model, when it should be a W model, and I asked for it to get corrected. It is basically going to be the same as the w650rc for the most part.

The build quality/material is identical to the W650RC, as is the keyboard and the screen. Mainly, the board is slightly different, with the RC having a soldered GTX 950M, and the RZ model having only Intel graphics.

Thanks a lot guys! Clevo should make a nice quality lower end machine that just had a quad core and maybe a mid tier gpu. The old Sager NP8650 was on the right track, but still a bit high end.

You're welcome! Maybe the N series is more up your ally(?). The N155RD/RF and N170RD/RF are a little more solid feeling, "sleeker" looking, and have a 960M (RD) - 965M (RF), while being less expensive than the P series.

I just felt the build quality wasn't great. Some youtube reviewers didn't even include it in their budget gaming videos but mentioned it specifically saying the specs are great but the build quality was poor.
I ended up going for an Asus UX501, which is sorta different from it but it works for what I need.

It's fair to be selective when you're throwing down a good amount of money on it. As long as the Asus system is treating you well, that's what really matters.

Question to Prostar: what carrier do you use for free ground shipping to Canada? And what discount could I expect as a NBR member? I'm looking for N170RD if it matters...
    Thanks.

You would probably want to send them a direct message, as we aren't supposed to talk about pricing/discounts in the forums here. I'm sure they would gladly respond to you that way though.

    Hey there!

Sorry, I wasn't around yesterday. For ground to Canada, we use UPS. If you opt for the priority option or a Next Day Air method, then we use FedEx (note that the priority option covers the brokerage fee for you.)

As for the discount, it's best that you either PM me or contact our sales department at the number in my signature.
