Sadly the majority of notebooks have little to no good audio hardware. I recall a couple of ASUS models 2 generations ago and a couple of Acers last gen that impressed me some, but if I'm honest even the best notebook speakers are outperformed by cheap externals.Georgel likes this. -

Agreed, even a decent set of headphones/earphones will put to shame a lot of notebook speakers.Georgel likes this. -
P775 headphone out is on par with audiophile levels.
What it lacks is more power - being rather conservative. But it is the best headphone out in a laptop in the world. At least from what I've tested thus far!Ashtrix likes this. -

Thank you!
People could totally get a P775 and say they have an audiophile level setup. Since I heard equipment all the way to 55.000$ Sennheiser HE-1 setup, I have heard some things in my life so far
P775 speakers can only go so far, even with all the bells and whistles, even with all the EQ possible applied, the laptop speakers cannot do more. They are nice, even good for gaming and light enjoyment. Better than almost every single smartphone speaker, and maybe better than most sub - 50$ solutions but there are 100$ solutions that will sound better. Solutions that are much bigger / heavier - mind the size and space constraints, P775 doesn't have a bad speaker set.
With pro levels of tweaking and EQ, I feel that P775 sounds okay. If it is placed on a wooden desk, the bass is actually quite cool for a laptop.Ashtrix likes this. -
Sounds very convenient indeed
Yeah, imagine loaner or World Tour programs for monitors
And audiophile stuff will bring a smile to anyone's faces, except when the bill comes!

As for laptop audio, my NP8170's audio ports are noisy; I can hear hissing when using my headphones
This is why I had to look into external DACs and make do with its Optical Out (which is not perfect either; its 24/192 signal cannot be used with the Modi Multibit as it is not good enough)Georgel likes this. -
A slight off topic note but I do suggest that whoever likes Firefox ways rather than Chrome's to take a look at Pale Moon, it's a progressively branched out Firefox (in the sense that it's distancing itself from Firefox) that not only has optional features restored (features removed in Firefox since they started mimicking Chrome's senseless UX approach) as well as several optimizations that include higher base CPU instruction set support, a proper 64bits build that isn't just a 32bits build on 64bits (as opposed to things like Waterfox), removal of forced DRM, and more. Imho, very much worth considering, have been using it as my daily driver for years, but do test it for yourselves

I just opened up my Acer Z5610 all-in-one desktop PC, in preparation to slot in my spare Samsung mSATA drive in it. I was pleasantly surprised by how modular it is, despite apparently looking like it was locked down like hell. Images of my teardown below:
Here's how it looks like fully assembled:
The teardown now.
An overall view of the innards:
Everything in there can be replaced or upgraded. Anyone has a link for a newer MXM 3.0 Type A GPU to replace the GT 240M? I've already bought an mSATA to SATA adapter to plug in my spare Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB SSD in the spare SATA port.Blacky likes this. -

No hiss with any of them on P775 hgeadphone out and the sound is really good - can be compared to a dedicated DAP or DAC + AMP solution, but very little power.Ashtrix likes this. -
I am using Beyerdynamics Custom One Pro and a modded Superlux HD668B, with a Schiit Modi Multibit R2R DAC and a Project Ember tube amp with a Sylvania 6SN7 tube
-
That is one interesting setup though!
Don't know why you hear hiss, neither Custom One Pro nor HD668B shouldn't be that hissy. At least when compared with se846 hiss...
Why not use USB output and do all the processes within your DAC? -
Thanks! I guess that's cos my headphones are more sensitive. The hissing refers to only my laptop's analog output like Headphones Out and Line In. I am actually using either my laptop's Optical Out or my computer's Coaxial Out to my Modi MultibitGeorgel likes this.

On a more on-topic note, I am getting an old Macbook Pro (13 inch, early 2011) from my bro as he has a new Macbook Pro
Let's see how this goes (i.e. will I be able to resist the allure of BGA? Stay tuned folks!

Take a look... Now is the Big ACERJOKE X21 being advertised in flyer from the computer store in my area. Only 88,995 NOK = $ 10,475 usd. I get really upset and sad when I see something like this. Tragick.
Edit; My wife wondered if this was true. It was she who showed me this promotional flyer. She grinned

BTW. MORE BGA TRIPOD - THIS TIME MSIBOOK

At this point I might ask as well - are they expecting to sell any of those at that price, or they're just trying to make a statement in the industry?
-
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Almost certainly a statement in the industry, but since it's gone past the concept/demo phase and will be something purchasable, there's another angle to it. The target market is not enthusiasts, but rather people who want to impress others with how much money they can spend on something. People who are impressed by that (more than you think) see someone like that owning one as a mark of quality (after all they have a lot of money, they must make good purchasing decisions) and keep that brand in mind when they're making their own decisions. -
Put it the other way bro. I really hope not. But as you know... Lots of people buy without knowing what they actually buy. Hence... Similar Threads like this with good and essential info is important.Georgel likes this.

Most of these sort of things are intended to influence a wider, non-NBR-frequenting audience. -
But a P870 neck filled with Ultra-level specs costs around 3000$ - 4000$, nowhere near 10.000... Not to factor that even a really good 25" display can be had for less than 400$...
-
Unfortunately, there are lots of people who lack hardware knowledge or what's normal price level for hardware... They think more like this... The more expensive the product is, the better it must be
-

As mentioned two posts ago, it's a prestige purchase. A ZX-14 was as fast as a Desmosedici RR but guess which one was $70K and which one was $12K. You might say "but the Desmo was lighter and prettier and handled better!", was it $60000 lighter and better handling? Same thing here. This is not a practical purchase and that is 100% intentional.Georgel likes this. -
I do hope that no one is burned by purchaser's remorse along the way. As long as everyone is happy...
I will keep my work - station needs and laptop that must run all my software in good conditions. -

For the people buying it, I imagine they'll have forgotten they have it by the time the next big thing comes out. -
I'm still uncomfortable with this - even if just a bit.
There are people who would make usage of those things.
But then again, I think of the things that are being done with the money - the workers that made this laptop are getting paid and such - this keeps the economy going on. Regardless of what is made / sold / bought, as long as the chain keeps going, the economy doesn't stop.
Professional workers who care about performance or do need outmost performance - (almost every single artist / etc since all software uses CPU in 99% of the cases) - should invest in something non-BGA CPU and something even extreme CPU if possible. -
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Agree 100%, and to add to it, there will always be a market for this sort of thing, no matter how much information about what is more practical is out there.
Also agree, hopefully professionals do more research before purchases.

10K USD for a laptop?!
Geez, I think that amount of money can get me practically everything on my tech need and wish list like smartphone, iPad Pro (12 inch), DAP, and of course a good LGA Clevo laptop! -
Yes....
Smartphone, audiophile headphone, audiophile IEM, DAP, good tablet, Clevo laptop, 100% sRGB monitor, gaming mouse, gaming keyboard, cooler + cooler mod, mouse pad, drawing tablet, internet router and a second hand car.....
Buut, if it makes someone happy, even one person then it has its worth. Some people can't find happiness in anything, I don't judge what makes someone happy
Clevo requires a ton of installing and driver play - at least it did when I first got it... Even now, I needed over 20 restarts to finish with its updates, drivers and such. Maybe that laptop is really plug and play - thing which I would totally applaud.darkarn likes this. -

As long as the jewelry is socketed it should go over well here.ImHere likes this. -
It is actually a known thing about two pairs of headphones. One is a bad sounding beats thingy and one is a more decent one but extremely overpriced headphone that has its price given by those jewels.
I prefer a headphone that focuses on sound - like Orhpeus 2 if need be - but I dislike jewelry and such on my audiophile products - they don't bring nothing to sound... -
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Honestly wouldn't matter to me, I've damaged my hearing enough that I can't tell for the most part. -
Heh, maybe different jewels bring out different sound quality like in Diablo?
Man, I hope I can listen to the Orhpeus some day!Georgel likes this. -
LOL! Diablo pplayer here! Love that game!
I had the chance to hear Orpheus as they were on tour in Romania. I ain't gonna review them nor talk too much about them. They don't have a price tag for customers, they're more like a statement in the industry rather than a headphone you can buy.
One thing I can say is that they do sound awesome. But even after hearing Orpheus 2, I was able to walk out of the store wearing me EQ'ed Classics 99 and FiiO X5-2 and be really happy for the rest of the day. The moral of the day is that Orpheus 2 is awesome, but you don't need orhpeus 2 to be happy -

As long as they're not soldered to the headphones.
-
HE-1 is actually an electrostat headphone. The whole system is kinda made of one thing that you can separate, but you probably won't want to.
Then again, at 55.000$ you're not gonna buy this system any time soon if you're a normal human. -

I imagine it would sound a bit like this: https://soundcloud.com/igivedeathtoall/claptrap-wanna-hear-the-new -
Well, they are the best headphones I heard. But really do consider their price to be rather a crazy thing. Even if they doo sound good, 55 K $ can get you a LIFE, a business, a car, a home, dream computer and pretty much a TON in Romania...
LOL
They sound crazy good. But it is your own system of value that determines if 55K$ is spendable on a headphone or not. Meze 99 Classics made me smile the same very day and they cost 300$ so there's that

I mean I understand BGA in low end machines that need to be thin like tablets, ipads, phones, slim ultrabooks.
But in gaming machines this is retarded.I mean the problem with BGA chips is that it doesn't only warm the chip up, but the entire board as well. Having a component like a high end CPU or GPU warms the whole damn thing up.
Saying that BGA is always bad is childish tho.
It has its place, just not for components that gets hot the to point that it makes the machine throttle, die, heating up. -
ProTip: All GPUs are BGA and have been running a tonne more heat through them than CPUs have for over a decade.
Heat transfer into the PCB is not the problem. Intel have just been doing an bad job of their BGA cpus.
Mainly it was Haswell that broke the camel's back (so to speak). The difference between Haswell MQ and HQ never should've existed, yet it did.Ionising_Radiation, Georgel and hmscott like this. -
That's interesting.
This begs to ask why the HQ series and BGA chips are worse then

Haswell and FIVR is, let's say, like mixing nuclear with hydrogen explosives.
