Please keep in mind, these benchmarks are all straight out of the box! I have done absolutely no tweaking of any kind.
Also, I have never had a laptop before, so this is my first time using one of these new fangled contraptions!!![]()
Basic Benchmarks
3DMark06: 10,493 (1280x1024)
--SM 2.0: 4897
--SM 3.0: 4669
--CPU: 2477
PCMark05: 7,528
wPrime (32M): 31.046s
wPrime (1024M): 988.171s
HDTune: HDTune Screenshot
"Interesting" to note... the HDD reached 55 degrees while running the HDTune benchmark. It also started off at 51 degrees.
Somehow, that doesn't seem right. All testing was done on the kitchen table with back raised about an inch.
CRYSIS
Ran the GPU and CPU benchmark utilities included with Crysis. Settings were all on high, 1680x1050 and no AA.
Here are the results:

shouldnt your title read 260m?
-
btw congrats on your first purchase! looks to be quite a beast
-
First off, good choice. I hope your the notebook lasts you many a year yet. I must admit, I'm a bit confused by the title compared to your footnote specs. I'm guessing they're the 260M read-outs as I'm yet to see a 160M/9800GTS break the 10k barrier without serious overclock.
-
Nearly 10.5k out-of-the-box for a single GPU is pretty sweet in my book. Enjoy your new laptop
EDIT: strange, you beat Justin's bench with a T9800, he got 10317. Can you download GPU-Z and give us a screenshot? Here's Justin's for reference. 179.27 driver, 800 mhz on the memory >.>
EDIT AGAIN: just realized you're on XP, that would make the difference... nevermind. Why not Vista?!
-
Can we get some battery life estimates, too? Gaming vs. web use?
-
Thanks for the benches. Enjoy your new machine!
Duane -
EDIT: Chaz changed the title. Thanks Chaz!
-
Here ya go anothergeek:
Why not Vista? Not a fan. Looking forward to trying out 7 though... maybe.
-
If you installed XP yourself be sure to install Intel matrix storage manager as it drop HDD temp by a few degree
-
No, I didn't install it myself, but I will look into that program. Thank you for the tip Sp3ctrum!! 51 degrees at idle seems really bad, so any help in lowering that is great!!!
EDIT: Got an error saying my computer didn't meet the minimum requirements... ??
-
hmm just wondering is the default driver that came with the 260m the best one, or should you update it?
-
I am not sure. Kevin_Jack2.0 was asking about the drivers in another thread and I asked him which ones should be on there, but he didn't say.
-
hmm i wonder how far you can clock this thing to...
-
51C is NOT bad at idle. its about right, especially in your system. Mine runs at 50-52C all the time. Its only around 120F anyways. The drives are made to withstand far more temp than that.
-
Hey thanks emike09! I have no idea what are considered good or safe temperatures on laptops yet!! I was mainly concerned because when the temperature hit 55, during the benchmark, I got a "critical temperature" warning in the taskbar. Scared the crap outta me!!
-
Ya, they say that. Mine does too. Even on my desktop. Just something wrong with the application.
Off the HDD topic, you should move to Win7 or Vista SP2. You aren't taking advantage of your hardware with XP. -
Yeah, I am waiting to see how 7 turns out. Hoping for the best and all that.
For now though, the performance in XP seems to be pretty good.
-
Congratualtions on the new laptop !!! Just wondering what resolution did the 3DMark2006 test perform in ?? Also can you please post the SM2.0 and SM3.0 scores. Thanks and God Bless
-
I would just try a few different one's and see which perform best. I had another laptop based on the M860TU and tried Vista/Vista64 on it. For each version different drivers worked best (at least for benchmarking). I don't remember for sure, but I believe both sager, clevo, and nvidia would have their own versions of drivers.
-
Although 51C idle is a safe hard disk temperature, I don't see how anyone could call it good. Some laptops idle at 40C which is more acceptable. I see 51-55C a bit too near the maximum safe temps.
-
that's pretty good benchmark outta the box. now what you need to do is ship that laptop to my house
thanks for taking your time to make us jealous!! you $^#%@&!!
, i gotta start saving. -
My pleasure acoz!
I am just using the free/trial version right now, so no SM2 or SM3 scores. Sorry!
I'll add the resolution (1280x1024) to the original post, thanks!
So any suggestions on how to get those temps down? Or did I just screw myself by getting the 7200 RPM HDD?
-
If you are using the free version, the sm2/sm3 scores should be in the breakdown when you submit the score online. Also you will have been running 3dM06 in 1280x1024 if you're using the free version, which is the standard resolution for benchmarking
-
Hahaha.... careful OP, people on here take their numbers seriously. If you were to post your 3DMark score a thousand or two lower than what it was - you would have started the first on-line riot.... later to be known as the "night of the NP8662 crazies" (I would have been the first to DoS Clevo website).
-
looks pretty high for 1680x1050...i could be wrong though
edit: nothing personal, but when benchmarking..windows xp doesn't really count. and since all the new benchmarks now (windows vista for newer cards on the high end market)out perform windows xp..windows xp is not the best. it's dx9 and the world is moving to dx10 and higher..
-
that is score is about right.
this is pretty much what proves on how great a 256-bit memory interface card over a 128-bit card.
the performance is retained quite well when going into higher resolutions.
Example from my 7800GTX:
1280 x 1024 (Default) ... from my "3 years later" thread.
1600 x 1024 ..... 1.25 times higher pixel count than default
1920 x 1200 ..... 1.76 times higher pixel count than default
Now you know why a high-end card will last longer than a mid-range one.
-
would that be vista or xp mr gophn?
-
I have tested this in both OS's already.
I am using XP Pro SP3 now, score is the same (give or take 10 points)
You can try it yourself, your system is much better than mine, your scores should scale very well.
-
|3dmark06 16,851/NOOC-15,891-Records (vista)|15,535@1920x1200-Record|Single Card 13,648-Record| XP-SLI 16,613-Record
your within 10 points you say? wow, that's close. -
XP SP3 is pretty close to the base kernel of Vista x86 (i stripped everything from Vista with vLite before installing it).
so yeah.
I didnt test it under Vista x64... probably a slightly larger gap.
But you are using a quad-core, I am using a dual-core... the scores would have a greater difference from OS to OS environments.
...wish I had a quad-core.
And if you look at the SM2.0 and SM3.0 scores, they are very close to compare since they are not very CPU dependent. -
yeah, they are higher running a dual core than a quad. ran that test a few times and was pretty shocked, bu 3dmark06 really aint quad core material. except for the cpu test.. few other things i noticed while running under vista and xp...cpu sore is opened farther in xp where as it gets clampdown some kind of way...very wired things i was seeing on my quest for...fastest laptop in the world...lol
-
I'm not sure if any other drivers will install right now. The Device ID is there, but it's under the name 170M. You could always try downloading one of the latest laptopvideo2o drivers, but I'm not sure if they'll install.
We miht have to wait until Nvidia puts out an updated driver release which includes the 260M/280M. Please try installing another driver so we can see what happens. -
lol, wow. So the disclaimer didn't work apparently. I said I was new to all this.
Latest error has been fixed. I hope all my mistakes haven't caused anyone to do anything drastic...
Thanks Kevin! At this point I am content to just sit back and see what everyone else comes up with though.
-
Hi - I was wondering if anybody could possibly find it in their heart of hearts to post benchmarks w/ Empire Total War or any feedback on the NP8662 w/ Empire Total War...thanks!
-
Thank you theriko! I appreciate the help!
I added the CORRECT resolution and also included the SM2.0, SM3.0 and CPU scores. I hope that helps!
-
you wPrime scores look very off.
make sure:
- you are not running anything while the tests
- set your Power Options to Max Performance
and make sure to set the Thread Count to 2 in the Options of wPrime -
Thanks and +rep added !!! -
Is it possible for you to open the bottom and show pictures of the 260M GTX video card ??? I know that myself and others are very curious to see how this card looks like to so we can get an idea if they will fit and work on other laptops / notebooks and our current heatsinks. Thank you again for anything that you can do for us. God Bless
-
I wouldn't mind taking a peek inside. I am curious to see how it look too! However, I wonder if that will that void my warranty or the return policy in anyway?
Gophn: Thanks for the help on redoing those wPrime scores!
-
This thread is useless without pics
-
Haha! Ok, ok. I will see what I can do!!
mre215: do you know if you can benchmark it with the demo?
-
I am sure thrilled about this machine...I am just waiting on real performance on gaming...as everyone else does...
-
get your benchmark on..
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_demos.html -
yes, you can benchmark with most game demos.
-
JDELUNA and haquocdung: Quick and dirty, let me know if this works for ya!
8662
-
it works, but get a closeup of where the vga card connects to the pcie slot. -
The first game I will try when I get my NP8662 will be GTA IV. Hopefully some one who already has their NP8662 but with the Q9000 will try this.
-
Wow, this coming from a guy who was trolling the Asus section earlier on. You need to calm down. Seriously.
-
I know you are eager as many people, but Ovreagr does NOT have to do anything for anyone, but the fact that he is posting and sharing information I give him kudos. Also remember he did say IIRC that this was his first laptop so cut him some slack !!! As my father used to tell me, if you do not like it then get the %&*# off the forum.
Hope this helps. God Bless
Benchmark NP8662 w/ GTX 260M (for the love of god!)
