He already offered some benchmarks and said he was going to test games later on. Yes it is annoying when people make threads for a certain subject and then provides information unrelated to the subject. In this case, the OP did provide relevant information. If the OP didn't, the thread would probably die out or be closed.

Shouldn't let your impatience get the best of you.

Hey, the guy has the right to enjoy his laptop. At least this isn't like the infamous Alienware thread that was title (M15X review with pictures and benchmarks) and after 15 pages, only then did someone ask, 'Wait, where are the pictures and benchmarks?'

to the OP and Gophn, thanks so much guys for everything you're doing for the NBR community. I'm looking forward to more good stuff, but loving what we're getting all the same. To the OP, any comment on how loud the fans get when the system is running at high capacity?

Well I got this laptop last week so I will share a little about performance. I don't have benchmark programs but I did install and tweak Crysis. I get around 25-28 fps with most everything very high and resolution 1600x1050 with no AA. I am using custom configs, which enable effects that usually aren't available.

I can say with the right tweaks you can get a custom setting that is very high visually, and even with some new effects. It plays smooth, I have no problems with multiple enemies or anything. I could tone it down to high settings and get above 30fps but really it plays wonderfully as it is.

I know this is not exactly what you wanted, but I can maybe later toss some screenshots up so you can see the detail I am getting.

For me those results are amazing...my main games right now are L4D, DMC4, Assasins Creed, Hellgate London, Call of Cthulhu and Bioshock, and with th NP8662, they should run amazingly well....

Nope not at all. I used as it is out of the box. I used Cubans config level 5 and then I found another autoexec.cfg that really made it look much better than that. I run 1680x1050 and I don't have a FPS counter showing but it's smooth. When I was running Cubans config the level 5 variant and getting 25 fps(with fps showing) most of the time. It would sometimes dip to high teens on the Assualt/Harbor map. I imagine it does that now, but honestly I can't tell. I run around smoothly, and no lag or hickups even.

You can max crysis inside the game and it plays ok(bit sluggish sometimes), but with custom configs I get detail that looks better anyways. I guess if you OCed it you could make it even better. But as it is it looks like a ultra high quality version of crysis imo. I could not be more pleased.

I ran fear 2 a bit as well, and it maxed easily and it was handling without any strugggle whatsoever.

Updated with a couple Crysis benchmarks that are included with the game.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been helpful and positive in their comments. Thanks also to Gophn, he has been a huge help!!

This laptop looks like it will be a lot of fun and I am excited to see what it can do.

EDIT: To najim and others who are asking about the fan noise. While running the Crysis benchmark and while playing it a bit, the fan(s) definitely kicked into high gear. However, I would not consider them disturbingly or intrusively loud. I had the TV on normal (i.e. reasonable) volume and I did not need to turn it up once the fan went to high.
If there is a more scientific/accurate way to get a comparison (other than buying a decibel meter) please let me know! :)

    :p

Something that looks better and runs better than the Cuban Missile config? I'm all up for it, do you have a link where I can download it? It's not the NaturalMod that you're talking about right? PM me the link!

    Thanks!!

Also back on topic, my overclocked 9800m GT scores significantly higher than the GTX260m, immature drivers or something?
    I get 5585 on SM 2.0 and 5210 on SM 3.0.

dont compare things to NotebookCheck.... they do not fully disclose all information about their tests (hardware setup is usually beta or engineer samples, benchmarks do not show all factors of score, etc.)

ah ok, I've heard that before and you're right in that their numbers seem to be all over the place.

comparing these benches to some old NP9262 benches on the NBR Forums with an 8800GTX (and a 2.4ghz Quad Core if that matters) shows only slightly lower FPS: 18-24 depending on the OS, XP getting the 21-23s.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211255

this seems to show that the 260m is a decent upgrade but not by a ton. What it is however is a MUCH MUCH better cost to performance ratio, considering the price of systems with the 8800/9800m GTX, and the fact that the old NP8660 GPU had a 9800m GS at an identical price.

EDIT: Also, since most of the 9800m GS Crysis marks run at 1024x768, is there a way to bench Crysis at that resolution?

Thanks so much for your service to the community!!!!

overclocks can usually translate to 5-10% tops of a performance increase.

maybe increasing a few FPS for a game.

I do not really OC anymore, I only did it initially for benchmarking, but its not really that significant overall as compared to stock.

In notebooks, you can only OC it so far... as compared to desktop cards since you can get third-party cooling products for it.

    depends on the system.

if a system has lower-end/mid-range parts, it will have more performance to gain from overclocking.

That UT3 Bench is amusing, how about with 4x AA 16x AF? You can force it in the Nvidia control panel if there isn't an option in game.

    Heya David, welcome to NBR.

Can you give us a quick brief on your systems spec? Doubtless that's it's anything too differnt from what we have here uless you asked for a T5800 and only a gig of RAM to be installed. Now those would be amazing FPS.

    I
Does the NP8662 have the same dimensions as a "normal" laptop and fit in in a Laptop jacket meant for 15.4 laptops?

    I am using autoexec.cfg from Extreme~Quality [1.34] extreme version

And then CCC 2.21 with level 5 and the TOD installed. I first instaled CCC 2.21 level 5 with TOD and then Extreme qualiy .34 extreme version.

I edited a few lines in extreme version cfg to gain some fps. Here is my modified autoexec.cfg. I am not a pro at doing cfg files I just used what I found until I found something I liked.

Well it's 1680x1050 turn on AA if you like. But really on a 15 inch screen jaggies arent an issue. Remember that is imageshack

Hmm...I was hoping the 8662's scores would sell me on the laptop, but I'm skeptical...still seems like 260m isn't a drastic improvement?

Can we get Crysis benchmarks at lower resolutions? 1280x1024 perhaps?

those are some nice numbers for a 15 inch portable. Makes me think it'll run ETW on high settings. Might be able to squeeze a few ultra settings out of it as well, but not many.

Ovreagr, would you mind changing driver to see if GPU-Z will correctly recognize your 260M?

Btw, the heatsink appears to be unchanged.
