Sure, what driver should I change it to?

Hmm, well I guess try the 179.48 from nvidia.com or the latest 185.68 by Dox.
No rush, try them at your own leisure. -
hummm, i tried them 185.68's. they had serious issues. did he get them fixed?
-
If anyone got a Np8662 with the quad it would be nice to compare benchmarks with Ovreagr. I'm curious to see the difference.
-
-
john, what sort of issues did you have with those drivers?
-
didn't install right. missing control panel. and stand alone control panel not installing right. so i cut my loses right there and got rid of them.
-
-
The NP8662 was launched after 179.48's release date of February 11, 2009. -
Ahhh, thanks 5482741! That would explain it!
-
Yeah hopefully Nvidia has a new driver in the pipeline that supports all of the new cards that have come out recently.
-
I was wondering if you could use cpu-z to get information on the particular memory modules used within the np8662. It would be very much appreciated.
-
Sure thing! Let me know if this is what you were looking for!
(Under the SPD tab, there are 2 memory slots, both with the same values)

Hey Over, how is that laptop doing man??? I am just too interested in it...but I just don't see that much hype about it around the forum...
-
Anyway, I am liking mine so far. It handles all the games I have played so far very well. It isn't going to break down any barriers with performance, but I don't think it was really designed to do that.
There are a couple issues that I consider serious though at the moment:
One is the, in my opinion at least, high HDD temperatures.
The other is the, again in my opinion, ridiculously loud Blu-Ray drive.
I am going to try and fix the HDD temps with a, hopefully, slight back panel mod.
The Blu-Ray sounds like a ricer civic with a fart-can exhaust and I will have to talk to Xoticpc about that. Hopefully they can help!
There are two minor issues too:
The exhaust fan does get a bit loud when on full blast, which usually only occurs during intense gaming. But that is what this laptop is for, right?!
The other minor issue is battery life while NOT gaming. Unimpressive to say the least.
However, I have yet to try undervolting and I have been told that can help a lot. I also seem to recall reading that battery life is not really why you purchase a laptop like this, so like I said, minor issue.
Let me know if that helps you at all or not or if you have anymore questions. I am always willing to test things out for folks if it will help!
-
before you go modding the case...i would try a different hard drive first... -
Overagr, you should get at least 2 hours out of that laptop in terms of battery life. I get tow hours on mine and it eats more power.
-
johnksss- any suggestions on which hard drive to try?
Blacky- is that while gaming or other intense use? Or just putzing around on the internet, etc.?
-
Just freaking around the internet, editing word documents, simple use, nothing intensive. Under gaming I haven't tested, but I know it should be a bit more than an hour. The reason I say it is a bit more than an hour, is because I have never used it purely gaming. On a combine internet gaming usage I got one hour and 45 minutes.

my toshibas in raid are around 50'c constant. -
Not sure which, if any of these matters, but this is the major stuff running at the time...
The Wi-Fi was on, but not connected to a network (tough to do on the 51st floor!).
Bluetooth off
Webcam off
ESET Smart Security 4 (NOD32 | Firewall | Antispam) running
Solitaire (lol!) running
HWMonitor running
Protector Suite QL running
GIMP running occasionally (maybe 20 minutes total)
I don't know if any of those really pushed the CPU or HDD (I doubt they did), so not sure if that actually helps give an idea of battery usage and life at all.
johnksss - Thanks! Maybe I will have to look into getting another HDD.
-
no problem...i think my samsungs ran at like 38c to 40'c, but they wern't in raid either.
-
Just a simple question, is the stock GTX 260M faster than a stock 8800M GTX? If so, how many percent is it faster? Both cards should have similar performance right?
-
Ovreagr,
You should be getting more than that, but I am not a specialist in notebook battery life so I can't say anything for sure.
maksin01, yes the 260M is faster and it is about 8-12% faster. -
-
ovreagr,
thanks for the cpu-z shots. Yeah, that's what i wanted to see. -
trigg3rhappy, you are welcome!
Let me know if you want any other info!
Blacky, well I didn't have it running in silent mode nor have I tried any under volting yet. So maybe those will help prolong battery life?
-
Probably silent mode would help.
I also think that maybe because I am using Win7 I am getting a better battery life. I heard people saying it fairs better than XP on that matter. -
What is interesting comparing my 10% OC 8800M GTX SM2.0 and SM3.0 scores from 3DMark2006 against the stock GTX 260M they look about the same. -
-
-
Yes my M15X is with the 1440 x 900 LCD, but when I OC'd my 8800M GTX by 10% to 550/880/1375 and ran 3DMark2006 again, I used an external monitor to get the score for 1280 x 1024 resolution. I hope this helps. God Bless

Just wondering, but does anyone know whether the np8662 bios supports memory timings to use the Kingston HyperX memory modules with a CAS latency of 5?
In addition, I was curious whether anyone tried installing either the Seagate Momentus 7200.3 or the Western Digital Scorpio Black 7200rpm? If so, did they achieve lower/better HDD temps and possibly better performance?
Benchmark NP8662 w/ GTX 260M (for the love of god!)
