@John@OBSIDIAN-PC @Phoenix could you edit (or give editing permissions) to John to post updates, new links, progress, info etc in the very first post of this thread to make following it easier for people to know what's going on? Since this thread also has discussions regarding the software and that creates a lot of pages

Most of the driver update software in the market is not specialized in a specific laptop brand, it costs the same or more and the price is per year.
Also, they do not add anything else for free... iḿ offering all the work that is being done/will be done in Control Station and Keyboard LED, for free...

I'm waiting until either EUROCOM gets on board, or my model Q5 / P957HR appears in the list of supported models.

Of course, if you still want to give free licenses to NBR members for a limited updater that only shows which drivers have an update available, you could do it better this time, like maybe make a new ID here just for that. Members will send their UUIDs to that ID in a PM; you'll PM back the activation code. Set a qualifying limit, like 'members must have at least 10 posts here to be eligible', so only genuine members get the free license.

Any progress on monitoring the RPM feedback that the fan sends to the EC? IMHO that is a very important sanity check to verify that the commands being sent to the EC are actually working as expected.

Most of the people on here really appreciate what you are doing with this software and completely understand and accept your reasoning for charging for the software. Your time and effort should be compensated.

Come on. He has already explained his reasoning multiple times in this thread. It's not just the drag on the servers. He is doing this on his own time, while also running a company. (I believe you said you own/run Obsidian-PC, correct me if i'm wrong). He has had to sell this to his company as something that would be beneficial to it, and I don't think giving out free licenses, even to the people in the NBR community, would help in his argument. What we should be doing is not only buying the software, but bugging our own re-sellers to honestly look into adding the software to their computers. If you still don't want to pay for it, think of it as a donation to the development of this software, which is still in alpha/beta. It will only get better from here, and you will have it for the life of your computer. Most free programs online just link to random repositories, whereas this one is not only on fast servers, but the drivers have all been tested for stability, so you are actually paying for the program, testing and support.

Sorry for the rant, just getting tired of people showing up to complain that their old license is not working and are not willing to read through all the work that has been done and support it.

In conclusion, buy the dang software.

It is a pity that people abused the NBR license for the updater but at least we got a replacement for the PoS Clevo CC that seemed to have caused more issues then it solved. I did purchase a license for the updater as it is only ~$35 Australian and compared to the price of the laptop and the hassle of tracking down the updates myself, it is a bargain.

Maybe you should have read what he said before going off on a rant.

Every time I vote on change.org I get hit with a bunch of spam. Should I stop voting because of that or should I look for ways to reduce the hurt? Ditto when I make a donation to a local charity - all the other charities start pestering me. John@OBSIDIAN-PC gave this updater for free for well over a year out of the goodness of his heart (some people do that, you know - give stuff away for free - you should try it sometime) and had to stop because it was hurting too much. I'm trying to give that choice back to him (which is why I put 'want' in bold italics, but that was somehow lost on you).

As a bonus, he gets good feedback from here should a poor driver update sneak through his screening process, rather than having to deal with complaints from less tech savvy customers who don't know how to describe the issue that they are facing. Maybe we could get the updates a few days before regular customers.

The point was that there is more cost involved than just servers. Your proposed alternative introduces a time sink where someone would have to manage PMs, UUIDs and activation codes. Time that could be better spent working on the software itself. You find something useful, shell out and support the creator so they can keep working on it.

@John@OBSIDIAN-PC yo John, would you advise me to switch from Obsidian tools to your new suite? Do i have to buy a new license (wouldn't be an issue i guess) or can I transfer the one you gave me when you built my system?

Keep up the good work. I always feel your enthusiasm and that's very nice to see IMHO.

PS: the latest nVidia drivers on your server is bugged (P650 - GTX 1060) so beaware. There is huge discrete GPU activity even if not shown by any hardware info software which causes battery drain and loud fans. I already gave the info to the support.

You can even run both software at same time.
    License should work for both.
Are you sure about the Nvidia thing? I thought that was in the previous one.

Yep, I had the issue the last week. So unless you updated the driver in the last 4-5 days I'm 100% sure.

Is there a reason to run both software? Besides the fact you are still developing the new suite, it looks like it will do basically everything the Obsidian Tools app does, or not?

PS: since you cannot be 100% bug free it would be super nice to have a roll back button directly in the driver update app :D

Just an idea: it would be cool to be able to adjust the fan behaviour aka ramping for up and down each on its own.

    I did update ;)
No reason to run both software unless you miss any feature that was moved to control station.
And... Control Station is already stable in all its features (only cpu tuning should be avoided atm).
The new suite is going to have a lot more features.
If you combine Updater, Keyboard LED and Control Station it's a lot more then the old Obsidian Tools Advanced version...

Oh, ok then. So could i install the new suite and remove both Obsidian Tools and CCC? Or is CCC still needed?

Plus, since i shouldn't tune cpu through Control Station, I should still keep throttlestop as separate app right?

    Removing CC is your choice.
If you use ThrottleStop then copy it's folder to C:\Program Files\LaptopTools since Control Station already includes support for it ;)

Ok, but for what I see, if I use your suite, CCC is not strictly necessary right?

...and to be fair, CCC is kinda garbage while your suite looks very polished so the choice is a no brainer. :D

Do you plan to implement a smooth fan speed transition or will you keep the plain step approach?

    You can make it smooth:
    1 Step
    1 Step
    Update interval of 300ms
    That's smooth

I've now purchased a license for the Fan Control as I plan on getting rid of CCC, the fan and keyboard tools are working great for me and I don't need CCC for anything else.

The only concern I have is that I use OpenH ardware Monitor (it starts up on boot) hidden on the tray so I can monitor things quickly. It seems that whenever Fan Control is launched, it kills Open Hardware Monitor. Do you have any plans to change this behaviour so that both apps can co-exist? The Fan Control continues to monitor and run fine if I re-open Open Hardware Monitor after Fan Control is already running.

@ John@OBSIDIAN-PC I had registered here, only to thank you for your work and great app. Its much more convenient than the CC (saw this crap in the hell) and does not cause BSOD. I I will definitely buy updater and fancontrol in this month. You and your team did great job =^^=
Some bug report and wishes: 1) control station dont save setting for disable camera, and enabled this after power on or restarting laptop. 2) I dont found button for enabled/disabled left win button. Its annoing when accidentally push it in the game.

    See the screenshot below.

    p955er-lolz.PNG

I got that Audio driver from Realtek's website.

However, installing it disables Soundblaster Connect (which isn't a big deal as I have a fallback in Dolby Atmos' Spatial Mode driver for Windows 10).

Yes, I'm running the latest build.

For some reason, it fixed itself after doing a clean install for the audio driver.
Had to uninstall the current driver, reboot, then installed the one from Obsidian updater utility and finished with a reboot.

Now all is working as expected.

In Control Station, I find there are a number of volume levels that just don't 'stick'. If I try to set it at 3, it drops back to 2. 7 drops back to 6. 10 drops back to 9. Etc. I would like to have this fixed, so the level stays where it is set, or where I have set it outside of the Control Station. Thank you!

As a work-around, you could create a shortcut to the KB lights app on your computer, and have that shortcut start minimized.

@ John@OBSIDIAN-PC is there a ftp folder or http link to keep track of updated versions? Or are you always updating the file @ http://obsidian-pc.com/LaptopToolsFull.zip

...also, is the touchpad control work properly or do you have to code it yet? I have it disabled but the control shows it's enabled.

...another thing: do you think it's too rough to make the fan % speed editable? So that the user can digit directly the desired numeric value.

Thats actually a Windows bug... if you try to set the Volume in the windows volume control you will notice that it is the same, so it´s actually a windows limitation or just a stupid operation decision...

Will release an update until the end of the day with that option.

    I´m using a P775DM3 and a PA71 7700HQ for testing... it´s working on both my systems...
But do not forget that the fan control is BETA, so i can´t assure you that it will work 100% like in my systems...

All software checks for updates on launch! So you dont have to use the full package, if you already have all the 4 apps then they will notify you of any update and they autoupdate just fine.

About the touchpad i made it for latest models, which are all Windows Precision Touchpad compatible, probably your model is older and does not have a windows precision touchpad, that or your touchpad driver is outdated. Can you tell me your laptop model?

About typing the percentage, you mean the value on top of each slider right? Something like double click to be able to insert value manually is that it? Sounds like a good idea...

If you have control station installed + Fan Control, without Clevo Control Center, the Control Station software will offer to install a DLL (clevomof.dll? need to confirm) on startup. Did you get such an option?

And John: The fan control is bloody amazing! There's something nerfed about Clevo Control Center that your software fixes: The automatic fan profile that comes with FanControl literally results in a ~20 degree drop for the Eurocom Q6.

I've been playing BF4 for about an hour and my CPU temps do not go above ~83. This is the troublesome Q6 with LM applied.

    Still testing.

Is your keyboard RGB type? Or just white light?

Show me a print screen of your keyboard led settings as they are now...
You need to ENABLE, put Brightness to MAX, and select each Keyboard Zone with a value different then NONE...

A feature request for the fan control: Can fan profiles be imported and exported?

That'd be awesome, as it would allow users with custom fan control curves to back up and restore their settings, etc.

I just want to be able to turn it on and off, but even that doesn't work.
