They price matched, but I think I am not going to go with them.
They are still overcharging on the USD-CAD(Its around 3/4% and there charging 6%)
There also slightly dishonest

Oh ok. So XoticPC is still the way to go? Or that Malibal? Malibal is about $30 cheaper than XoticPC with the same config.
-
Yea, but for powernotebooks how much is the brokerage-covered shipping to canada?
-
I know I would rather buy from xotic or powernotebooks, they are so helpful on the forums. They certainly deserve it.
-
What price was it on the website, and how much did they lower it by to price match?
And can you explain how they were dishonest?? -
I have just been told a few things which later have ended up not being true.
I havn't decided if I am not order from them, so I will not say more. -
thanks - would be good to see FPS when the smoke/fog sections.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015

That's not covered by the company that sells it to you, but by the company that ships it to you.
-
-v- some companys(ie. xoticpc) have a preset fee for express shipping(ups express includes brokerage fees)
xoticpc being $130
I checked with powernotebooks, sadly it was $150
Ive gone with xoticpc

I had to send my sager back because one of the fans underneath was not working and this makes it shutdown automatically whenever it starts. And i was told by sager the compter gets overheated because of the fan not working
Sucks.. now i got to wait again -
Yep, that sucks. You been waiting just to wait again.

@bisfrin
And that's a brand new np8690? -
Yeap, just got it yesterday 10/20

As you well know, they all offer 2nd and 3rd year labor warranty if you want to pay for it.
Malibal offers the 24/7 domestic phone support as well as free shipping both ways for service for 1 yr. You also get free labor on any upgrades (i.e. you buy the parts).
XoticPC offers 1 year parts/labor, and lifetime SAGER phone support. So they're just telling you to call Sager. If you want lifetime xoticPC support, that's $50 extra.
Honestly, I've never used a computer warranty/ support program, etc in my life, so it's irrelevant to me. If something serious ever happened (outside of the warranty term) I'd just turn it into homeowners insurance and get new, more current replacement anyway. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
^^ Not exactly correct. You get lifetime 24/7 Phone support on all high end Sager models at no charge. Since we are in the 8690 thread I assume you are speaking of the 8690. There is no upgrade for lifetime 24/7 Telephone Support and you get a 3 Year Labor Warranty at no additional charge.
-
Cool.
So when can we expect the NP8690 to be back in and ready to ship? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
1st week of November.
That is the latest we have heard.
-
My apologies for the misinformation then Justin. I was not aware the support offered on Sager laptops depended on which model you bought, I assumed it was a standard Sager support for all laptops.
Could you clarify a bit..? For example the NP7220 comes with..
"Lifetime Sager Toll Free Tech Support "
And the NP8960..
" Lifetime 24/7 DOMESTIC Based Toll Free Telephone Tech Support "
So the NP7220 support is through Sager, and the NP8960 support is through XoticPC? -
I think the 8690 is a "highend model"
Also, I <3 of your honest justin
Knowing you could loose sales from saying that(even though Im waiting, only around 2.5 weeks!!!!
-
xoticpc is very straightforward, quite a good attribute for a company.

No problemo
Your right models like the 9850, 9280, 8760, 8690, 8662 are all under our Xotic PC 24/7 Telephone Support + 3 Year Labor Warranty. (Which PowerNotebooks does the same kind of 24/7 Telephone support for these models). The lower end models like 7220, 7350, 7752, 2098 goes through Sager with a option to upgrade to our Lifetime 24/7 Telephone Service. -
Great, thanks for clearing that up!

Hi all, am considering buying the 8690 but want feedback from those who have it.
1. Does this laptop have overheating issues? I'm traumatized from my previous experience with the G1S
2. How is the battery life for this?
Thanks very much in advance for the answers. -
Heat isn't an issue..but don't plan on being away from an outlet for a long time, because battery life on this thing is far from being the greatest. Check out the owners thread as I already reported some battery life numbers.

Here's the direct post for battery life.

cool thanks. I'm just worried bout the heat
... I will have a laptop cooler for it but the old laptop I had which overheated really traumatized me ...
-
Hi!
Does this laptop (8690) powers on from touch button? I can't find in Sager site images where is power button in this laptop.
What FHD display model does it have? Is it LG, AUO?
I need to know model number.
Please post it! Thanks! -

Its on the hinge, on the right side of the notebook, I think. It's a button. The screen is AUO, I believe... for the model number, try looking for it in the owner's lounge.

Understood, sorry.

Hey,
I am about to buy this "monster" =) However, i have a couple of final questions;
- How will be the buying process? I am from Turkey and will buy computer through a friend from USA, let's say i bought it from exoticpc or powernotebooks or somewhere else anyway, will i(my friend actually) instantly get the computer after the order and payment or is there a process for preparation of computer by the seller? If there is how long is this time?
- Are there any common problems with this computer? I think i may miss some comments about computer, it is so important because as already i said i am from Turkey and there will be almost no chance to send it back to the USA for technical service (of course my friend will do some test before sending me)
- The owners of this computer are happy with its size? Don't have a chance to see it lively just from photos and i'm not sure about that, for instance np9280 has a very repulsive appeareance, does np8690 look esthatic?
- And the final question =) i am using a very old machine which has p4 1,7 as processor and fx5200 graphic card and 1 gb memory etc and know that i will hugely level up if i buy it =) but you guys really recommend this machine to me or not? Is it worth nearly 2000 bucks?
thanks already for your answers
i am waiting for them urgently
greetings from Turkey -
please,at least gıve answer for the 1st questıon
sorry for floodıng -

The production time frame to assemble and test the Sager np8690 takes approximately 3-7 business days from the time payment is received. In regards to your other questions please feel free to email me at my email address in my signature below. -
There have not been any issues reported to us, and only one aspect of the notebook has even been disappointing (and only to a few people): the battery life. To save on weight, Clevo designed this system with a 3-cell battery, which means that the battery acts more as a portable Uninterruptable Power Supply than a long-life battery. Clevo likely made this decision because all of their notebooks undervolt extensively while running on battery, meaning AC power has always been required for gaming (or other high-end usage), anyway.
All of our customers with the NP8690 who have spoken to us about it thus far have been quite happy with the size and appearance. The system is quite attractive. Of course it is not completely sleek and tapered like an Apple or similar lower-spec system, but this is to make room for the airflow needed to cool the powerful GPU and processor inside the system.
Only you can answer whether or not a particular price point is "worth it." You are certainly getting what you pay for, as this is a very powerful system, but it is also important to keep in mind that laptops will always be more expensive than an equivalent desktop, and it would be dishonest of me not to mention that fact.
If you want a powerful gaming notebook, though, you can't go wrong with an NP8690 - you won't find a more powerful notebook in its size. -
A little afterXMASpresent
I build two scripts with AutoIT.
The first is for Windows 7 to change the Brightness from 100% Displaybrightness to 40%. I made this because i think the FullHD is too bright for working in Windows, but for gaming i use 100%. So now it is possible to change between these settinge with only one press on the keyboard.
I use the key for Emails (left to the SilentModekey). You can use the Emailkey and Homepagekey if you install the Microsoft Keyboard (Internet Keyboard) driver. But you have to compile my script before.
The other is for changing from USB Sound to the Speakers. Because the Headphoneoutput is shi.. but the speakers are ok if you set the Equalizer right.

Quick question,
Can a Laptop Video card, output to both HDMI and VGA/DVI at the same time?
Would this be ATi's "Eyefinity" ? I need mirrored outputs..
Looking at the Sager NP8690 with an ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5870.
Will this work and if so at what resolutions? Bonus points if you know if it can be done while using a Matrox TripleHead2go.
Sounds like the Envy 17 can and the Asus G73 can output to both. Any others? Thanks! -
BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
1. you buy with your creditcard, etc.. takes some days, then they ship... takes some days, then it reaches your friend... ... around 1 week or 2
2. np8690 has almost no problems... other than if you're extremely unlucky and its a lemon...
3. i've read most are happy
, its not the most beautiful design ever, but it looks professional.
4. i come from a pentium4 fx5200 too.. haha! but i switched to a c2d 8600GT a LOONG time ago.. and yes, its worth the money...
greetings from Honduras...

Yes, The Sager NP8690 and ASUS G73JH can output to both HDMI and VGA/DVI at the same time, but then you won't have an image on your laptop screen. If you want to output to 2 or more external monitors (or TVs) plus your laptop screen you will need an additional video adapter like the Matrox TripleHead2Go, ViBook Plus or ViDock2.
ATi's Eyefinity will only work with a laptop with a DisplayPort, and those are hard to find.
Each of the video adapters will have their own resolution limitations, so you will have to research each one to find out what it is.
Check out the Sager NP8690 (W860CU) - Intel i7 Calpella - It's here!
