hey Blacky. my current KBC version is 1.00.07N. Is it safe to assume I need the 13N KBC and not the 13 KBC?

If that's true, do you know where I can find the "N" version because it seems like I need to update the KBC first before I update the bios.

Also, I do not know if the KBC is included in the "bios" file I found on the clevo website which makes me hesitant to run the update.bat file.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have looked at that Clevo archive and it is only the BIOS part, therefore you should not flash it until you also get the copy of the 13N KBC firmware first which may be found here:
    13N_22.zip

oh perfect thanks. It also looks like that link contains both the KBC 1.00.13N and the Bios 1.00.22.

Yes, use them in the correct order: KBC first and then BIOS.

so it appears everything went smoothly. I do however have a question.

I was able to successfully flash the KBC and BIOS to the current version.

I then installed the new video card of 9800M GT. The system then gave 2 quick beeps but still booted up. It recognized the new video card correctly and installed the stuff for it. I already had the nvidia drivers installed for it so everything seemed to be fine. Then the screen went black. The rest of the system seems to be responding correctly however. However now the black screen just exists from system start. The system will give 2 quick beeps but still start up as if nothing was wrong. The screen is still black however but the system seems to be running in the background. I can press keys and it'll do stuff as if the screen was there. I did some research for 2 quick beeps and a lot of places say it is a memory issue. So could a bad memory module on the new video card be why it is black screening as well as having the system give 2 quick beeps on startup?

I put the old card back in and didn't get the double beep this time and I was able to see everything (no error). This makes me think the video memory is bad. I'm just not sure since I didn't think the beeps tested the on board video memory. I thought that was just for the extended memory for the system.

    Simple, here is an example:

You can use this in any webpage/html editor. The only problem with this forum, is that it reads all the new lines as new lines in the post. So if you write
    X7200 (Sager NP7280)
it just a normal table, but if you write:

    X7200 (Sager NP7280)
it will add 6 empty lines after the table which will make everything look bad.

    just give me your email.

That 9800M GT is second hand / refurbished? I would try to wipe out the already installed drivers before putting back the 9800M GT and reinstalling the drivers.

Yeah i'm going to try that next. The card was supposedly brand new in the packaging. And it appeared to be. The backing plate wasn't even assembled onto it. It was probably sent back to the manufacturer to get refurbished.

    Hi all,

Tried as hard as I could to find a link to the Sager KBC/EC bios 1.00.07Sh for M570RU (the one with Fn+1/Fn+3) but all the ones in found are dead.

1.00.07Sh is already flashed in my M570RU, but I want to try later KBC/EC bioses and still be able to roll back to 07Sh if necessary.

    Anyone have the 1.00.07Sh handy?

    Thanks in advance.

You can use the Clevo BIOS from the first page of this thread. They will work fine.

Don't the Clevo BIOSes miss the Fn+1/Fn+3 fan controls that the Sager ('S') ones provide?

Well, reading from kaltmond there, confirmed by zfactor there, it seemed like they were different. Aren't you using a newer Clevo BIOS which has the fan controls while the older 1.00.07 (not Sh) does not?

Anyway, my intent is indeed to try newer bioses, clevo or Sager, but my question is about being able to roll back to the 07Sh that is currently on my machine, and for that I would need the 07Sh.

Well, on the first page, for M570RU, only BIOS 0.13 and EC 0.11 are labelled 'Sager version'; others are not so labelled (which I assume means they are not Sager) and some even have a Clevo link (which definitely means they are Clevo). And anyway, I don't see the 1.00.07Sh EC on this page, hence my question.

No, I don't have the 1.00.07 Sager version. But the latest versions for the M570RU are Sager which means you will have no problem in flashing to the latest version. Also, as far as I know there is a command to actually save the BIOS using the BIOS flash utility.

    hey blacky, couple questions:

    i've got a sager np5165/w150hrm. currently running bios 1.01.03 with KBC/EC 1.00.015A.

from my understanding, i've got the generic clevo bios installed as i've got the "Style Note" splash screen when booting. can you confirm this by chance, and if so do you know where i could get an updated version of the bios if i'm not using the current already?

    thanks

Just a question out of pure curiosity, are these Clevo bios files the same or is similar to how a normal desktop PC bios file operates?

are they divided in parts like Basic IO and EFI?

I got back to the previous version KBC successfully in 1.16, more keys are not working, I believe that each version of bios KBC has to work properly. need previous versions of BIOS

Yeah, in your case, the EC/KBC is different since you don't have a standard US Keyboard. If you want the latest EC/KBC and BIOS you either need to get a standard US keyboard for your laptop or you should ask your reseller for the latest EC/KBC.

    Hi Blacky.
    I just found your posting.
I have a (UK) Rock laptop - it looks identical to the Sager 5796 in virtually every respect, and is an M570TU.
I updated the bios from its original (2008) version 1.00.06 to version 1.00.17.
I have a problem that my laptop will not recognise USB 3.0 devices as USB 3.0 through a USB 3.0 Express Card - I have tried several USB 3.0 cables, and all my laptop's drivers are up to date.
I am considering trying to update the BIOS one stage further to 1.00.19 as per your posting, as my laptop is running Windows 7 64-bit with SP 1.
Whilst I accept that any BIOS update runs a "bricking" risk, do you think it would be okay for me to try it on a non-Sager, but otherwise identical Clevo laptop? Sadly Rock themselves have no bios updates since the original 2008 version!
Cheers for any advice that you can provide.

Yes, if you have the M570TU you should be fine. But I somehow doubt having a BIOS update will fix your issue.

Successfully installed the EC and BIOS (1.0.19) updates - booting into BIOS now shows the support for Windows 7.
As anticipated though, this has not helped my USB 3.0 issue. :(

If it's clevo you get a stylenote splash screen at startup.
If it's sager, you get a Sager splash screen at startup.

I have a clevo P170HM and I was trying to update the bios it with an unlocked version but the notebook did not work anymore, it turns on and the screen goes black and then it turns off.

I've tried everything, reset the bios and could not, the laptop is bricked. what can I do?

There is no unlocked version for this model, because it can't be unlocked...there is also no recovery method if it is really bricked.
You can try to keep FN & B pressed while booting, which rewrites the nvram and pull the bios battery cable on the mobo to clear the cmos (below the keyboard), but that's about it.
    Sorry man!
