Also anyone know about the np8170? What if you put like a 2920XM ES in it, can you still oc it? Not that I am thinking of buying a np8170, just maybe for the future models.

well, what would u like me to say? ^^ i dont see any issue there, aside from it being potentially annoying. the pulsing doesnt really affect the cooling of the components, thus its really a "non-issue" if u ask me ;)

    cheers

I am thinking about buying a Clevo and I am concerned about the fan noise. Is there any way to edit the FAN lookup tables in the EC? In my Acer I could do this mod, just edit the HEX values and calculate a checksum, and it works perfecly ever since then. Is it possible to do the same on a W150HR for example? Or any software fan control, like SpeedFan support?

There haven't been any successful manual changes to the fan speed that I know of. No software out there can interface with the EC yet, so you're left with automatic or max fan speed only.

on my w170hr the fn+1 doesn't do anything. Is there a setting in the modded bios that can switch that function on?

    No BIOS will fix that.

EC03 removed fan control. You need EC02. Not sure if it works with W170HR, but apparently the Q150 and W170 share BIOS and EC files.

    ECW150.2SA

Which do you mean if it works with W170HR, the EC02 you posted or the fan control?

Well, yeah but I'm still worried because when I stress my CPU to 100% and enable Fn+1 it still pulses when you said that it shouldn't be like that, right?

What do you exactly experience with your system?

as i said, as long as the pulsing doesnt affect the actual cooling of the components it should be fine and as far as i can see ur temps look great :) so off u go with testing some modded BIOS! :p ask prema for a personalized version ;)

as i mentioned before, when i stress a component to 100%, the respective fan stops pulsing and vice versa.

Hey guys I want to access the option to turn on VT in my BIOS but it's not there, is there a tutorial on how to mod the BIOS to show this option?

I have a CLEVO W15HRM and msinfo32 says I have BIOS American Megatrends Inc. 4.6.4.

    Thanks

the weird thing is that even though the chipset chapter in the modded bios image is unlocked, there is no actual chipset menu in the bios menus after you flash it

You could probably just hardcode VT to be enabled, but then the notebook wouldn't boot when a CPU without VT is installed.

okay I have no idea how I could oversee this thread :p

Anyone has tried this custom mod on the clevo setup in my signature? I would give it a try. Need some save BIOS which can last a few hours of gaming / extensive virtual box working (1-2 maybe even 3 virtual boxes at the same time).

My setup is in my signature. I use the latest BIOS from here for the P170HM:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/416916-clevo-bios-thread.html

Which is "EC/KBC V 1.00.09 & No BIOS, use link below".

    Thanks

If you have a CPU that doesn't have support for VT, you're not going to get it whether you tried to hard code it or not. All modern CPU's should come with Vt-x enabled by default at least, so the only feature you'd be missing is Vt-d for directed IO, which is useless for most consumer applications.

Hmm so far I have never done any overcloking except with SetFSB and flashing the Bios on my GPU.

TDP hack = increased Mhz on the Intel Turbo boost? So instead of

    1 thread = 3,5 Ghz
    2 threads = 3,4 Ghz
    4 threads = 3,2 Ghz
    8 threads = 2,5 Ghz

It would be something like this:
    1 thread = 3,5 Ghz
    2 threads = 3,5 Ghz
    4 threads = 3,4 Ghz
    8 threads = 3,0 Ghz

Is that correct? For the values.. no idea. I'm looking for smth save.. and my laptop should last a few years :p

"TDP hack" should refer to increasing the Turbo Boost long power limit.

So the maximum stock Turbo Boost multiplier won't increase; but it will be able to sustain its maximum boost for much longer.

Hey guys, to nail down a bug in a bios I am working on, I really need your help!

    I need someone with a regular P170HM (non 3D) with 16GB of 1866mhz RAM.

It`s a harmless test to find out when this bug was ironed out by Clevo.
Your are just required to flash 2-3 different stock bios revisions.

    THX ;)

The problem you are having with the chipset menu is the same one that everyone with a p series notebook has, there is currently no known way to unlock that menu if it's locked (afaik).
You can hard code and flash some settings within that menu, but that is very unsafe.

There isn't one, at least if you're looking to use the unlocked feature in your CPU. The HM65 chipset that the P150HM comes with does not support XMP memory overclocking or processor unlocking. You're unfortunately stock at stock clocks there.

The EC contains a full basic BIOS but only EC part is flashed, so any changes are useless...

The w150HRM has Optimus, so you can switch it on and off.

On the P15xHM on the other hand (or the whole HM P series for that matter) we can get it to switch to the HD3000, but you won´t be able to get any picture, because the iGPU isn´t even physically wired...Sorry

I have a sager NP9280....intel i7 975 extreme.. with the gtx 285m gpu. I recently came into possession of a gtx560m and i can get it in the computer, but it boots and there is no screen....I am guessing it is the bios version that I have...I am on the stock Sager bios 1.00.09cs / 1.00.04sa. If I could flash the bios of a newer, similar computer...say the np8150 that can use the 560m is it theoretically possible to get this card to work in my np9280???

Just ask sager for an updated BIOS/EC you're a little out of date. Once you get the newer BIOS/EC there is a good chance it'll just work.

Once a model is end of life like the np9280/D900F they stop producing new bios updates for it. So it's not surprising that there is a big gap in time between now and the last available update. That's true for official updates anyway.

As for your GPU, I haven't seen anyone else that's tried to put that card into your model, so it could be a bios or vbios issue that may not be resolved.
