I finally received my i7-2860qm and it works great with the BIOS modded by PREMA! Now for the next upgrade; 7970M...
-
first the 2860QM, now the 7970M.... youre such a copy cat!
cheers -
I'm anxiously awaiting your reports about the 7970M upgrade first before I go ahead, so I guess you're the guinea pig...
-
hahaha, clever one!
ill keep u guys updated, thinking about opening up a 7970M installation / OC / general spec (temps, wattage, etc.) thread for HM series users. Just gotta get the card first! if everything goes well I should get it at the end of this week. Keep your fingers crossed!
cheers -
Excellent idea about the HM & 7970M thread. I'm not selling my HM anytime soon, so we need to keep them at the top.
-
where do you buy the hd7970m? -
eBay My World - upgradeyourlaptop
ebay shop of eurocom, send them a PM for further details
cheers -
I'm very excited now...oh yeah and I'm back!!!

1. set IDE in bios and boot
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
8. reboot and set ACHI in BIOS and see if it worked -
I changed from AHCI to IDE but the problem is still there.
Went into Safe Mode ... it crashes when checking for ClassPNP.sys
Is there a way to turn off ACPI in Bios?
To exclude the SSD's defect I will check it on Friday with other Notebooks. -
Finally found a solution for this.
ClassPNP.sys was corrupt.
Changed it with another working Win7 x64 ClassPNP.sys.
Now it runs and I'm happy
Thanks for all supporting ppl here. -
Prema, do you have a solution or a viable fix to let me keep the 2860QM running longer in it's turbo state? I've got the P170EM
-
Hi guys, whats up ? i need to a bios mod for Avell clevo P150HM with a core i7 2720QM ES with turbo boost lag, my bios is the version 1.14. Please, send me a tutorial to how flash too. Thx guys !!!
-
Prema increased the tdp values on an old BIOS for me 1.06
it worked great. Since I don't have that old bios, you can just flash the old clevo bios and get pretty much the same performance.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/556299-clevo-bios-older-models.html
BIOS V 1.01.06 &
EC/KBC V 1.00.04
is what you want
My friend wants to flash the same bios, but I am not sure if his 6990m works with it.
My 560m works fine though even though it's not supported.
The reason for the old bios is because clevo started throttling ES cpus a lot more in the newer BIOS'z.
However I never get the claimed 3.3ghz still, only 2.9ghz, but it's still much better than before. -
Ok man i got it, but the problem is my HD 6990M, because in the older bios version shes recognized how to HD 6970M. I reinstalled my 2670Qm and update the bios to last version and i want know if is possible to install a modding bios to gain more perfomance on the turbo boost with higher TDP, could you help me?
-
@BSF31, Prema did a hybrid BIOS with CPU microcode from bios .06 and implemented that into .14 bios, and he also changed the turbo boost settings, so that the CPU turbo boosted longer, giving a welcome performance increase. I also had the 2720QM ES.

I have a Sager NP8130 with 2620QM and 560M. When do I need to use a modded BIOS for this machine?
-
Yeah prema has the stuff, I think the best version was not that version though.
Just the old bios with increased TDP.
If there was a way to dump my BIOS, I'd give it to you, it performs really well. -

I wonder if Prema has a mod for the P170Em equipped with a 2860Qm, that cpu can boost all 4 cores to ~3.8Ghz I'm wondering if I can keep it up there for longer.
-
Too many things going on right now...give it some more time...

@Prema
Can you help me with my question? -
Oh sorry Kevin, didn't see your question!
YES, the TDP & time limits work for all cpus that throttle too early (before reaching high temps = 90c+). -
fingers crossed mate
take your time, I know you have a trick or two up your sleeve.

So how do I know if my CPU is considered throttling? Can you help me test it? Do you have a modded BIOS for the latest BIOS version of the Sager NP8130? -

-
Run the benchmark in throttlestop and watch the multipliers.

See the top left corner with your CPU name and multipliers x core speed?
Well the two numbered number is your multiplier.
Now open TS Bench in ThrottleStop and run the 32M or 1042M benchmark.
While the benchmark runs, check the multiplier, if it clocks down, it is throttling.
You can fix this by locking the multipliers and (if you wish) activating turbo boost for the lolz -

Has anyone here managed to get a 5% overclock on the bclk?
Or any bclk overclock at all?
Mainly interested in the p150hm but any info at all would be good. -
i wasnt aware that bclk overclocks were possible at all on p150hm machines...?

I don't know if it is.
All I know is there are a lot of options in the bios that we can't unlock yet (but they are there).
The guys over at the MSI forum can unlock those extra options (just because they are in a different place within the bios).
And they can overclock their bclk after unlocking their bios.
Now I know right now we can't do the same, but I wonder if it's possible to hard-code the bclk value into the bios just like the turbo limits.
If you open the bios with amibcp version 4.53 and go to the second advanced menu you can see that there is an option named "New frequency [10kHz]".
What would happen if that was changed to 10500?
I wonder if prema has already tried this.
5% isn't much of an overclock but it's better than nothing. -
p.s. not my fault is BIOS fails -
In many Clevo BIOS even a hardcoded value has no effect on actual BCLK speed.
Also, 105 is quite high for SB...better go for 102/103
But if your system can't take the OC, then it will never boot again...Clevos failsafe values don't always activate when needed...LOL -
heres to false hopes...

On second thoughts it doesn't seem worth it to try this kind of mod for 2-3%. -
There are two spots in that BIOS to set the BCLK, that's one.
I tried to set it in both spots on W110ER and it had no effect...if you really want to try it I can make a BIOS for you...but is it really worth the little bit of extra performance even if it works? -

Prema can you please make me a bios with just 101mhz and max turbo limits for the P150hm?
I can test it when all of my parts arrive. -
Drop me a PM, when your parts are in.
-

Ok thank you.
By the way, can I ask how far you managed to get with your ivy bridge testing in your HM? -
IB testing in HM? naaaaah...mythlogic said there would also be a hardware mod necessary in order to make them run properly...
