According to its' dimensions, it's a lot thinner. 1.1"-1.6" compared to the last model's 1.45"-1.95". Not a bad upgrade at all. The chassis was also revamped (new M865TU on the left, M860TU on the right:

Did you check if the Clevo dimensions for the M860TU matched with with their dimensions for the M865TU?

Thinner sounds iffy... unless they completely revamped the cooling system and added fans, I don't see how this model can get any thinner without overheating.

Don't pull an m15x on us now Clevo...

read the Clevo Guide section that says "Deciphering the Model Number"

thats all you need to know.... i though we went over this.

    please read the entire thread.

As for LED screens, you can get those panels for any notebook nowadays, just make sure you have the compatible LCD inverter.

This clevo looks great. Never heard of the brand before today.
Is there anywhere we can purchase directly from clevo rather than the re-branded firms (sager, zepto)? Would prefer buying direct since ive noticed some of these other firms have changed the lids and made them glossy looking.

Also, anyone know the model number for the Sager "M865TU"?

    thanks

Yes, and it doesn't even feel that heavy. I see no difference to it than any other 15" laptop.
Remember, it may be that weight, but the size makes it easy to hold.

Its easy to hold, indeed, not so heavy in your hands or under your arm but you can feel it in the backpack. Its around 7lbs...most 15'' general purpose are around 5-6lbs. Not a big difference though...for the power it packs :D

I have a Kensington Contour backpack, it works fine.

But I can only carry one binder and one book.

My friend's Targus XL backpack fits the D900 beasts much better with a lot of room for books.

If you go for weight and space, my Slappa Matrix does indeed fit even an uber laptop like the D900, books,a USB hdd, a cordless keyboard, mouse, phones, and even headsets.
    Hmm, quite the space :D

I believe that's enough for daily usage to school but more than that is, I believe, too much to transport on a regular basis.

true most 15s are about 6-6.5lb so the weight is reasonable.

In any case i would pefer a lighter laptop. Is anyone aware of any 14.1 inch clevo laptops that have gaming capabilities (not necessarily the best graphics card around , but good enough to play fallout 3 and far cry 2)

    thanks for the help

You may wish to check out Zepto for that. They have a 14" with a 9600M GT.

It does for some reason look a lot thinner than the M860TU. If it is considerable thinner, I would definitely get one. The only reason I didn't want the M860TU is because of the thick chassis.

Wierd, the Clevo site has the specs of both the 65 and the 60 as to be exactly the same. Not sure if they use the same webpage cause they're just lazy or that they're both the same specs. However, the dimensioned listed don't jive with the dimension listed in specs for books based on the M860TU like the sager. The dimensions for those does say that it's 1.45-1.95" for thickness while the one listed on the website would equate it the M865TU to 1.1"-1.6". A whole 8mm thinner.

If it follows the trend of all other clevo notebooks it will just have a slightly different finish and be exactly the same spec wise and thickness wise etc. They try to photograph them at flattering angles which make them look a lot thinner which can be deceptive!

    ^^ correct.

No change in hardware or chassis.

    Its still a Clevo M86xTU.

if it were a chassis change, there would be a change in the model number like:
    - Clevo M86xTU-U or M87xTU.... etc.

the "x" denotes just aesthetic differences.

Although those chassis changes don't seem to register on clevos site (the m570RU-U isn't listed for example)

the M570RU-U was listed prior to the Clevo site update.

its gone now since Clevo has removed the previous generation platform notebooks.

I think that is a downgrade in aesthetics. Why go brown?
It's very possible they're referring to the addition of the 260M, but I'll check it out.
