Alright gang, the thread title should be quite clear as to whats up![]()
I want a show of hands: Who of you HM users has ordered a nextgen card? Anyone got a card already installed? If so, how is it going? OCed yet?
Also: First one to get his hands on a 7970M should try to dump the modded vBIOS so the rest of us would have more freedom in chosing our vendors when purchasing a card![]()
So lets see whos gonna breathe some new life into their HM beast![]()
cheers
PS: sorry, almost forgotSo after unsuccessfully trying with Eurocom and Mythlogic i now placed my order with R&J Tech for a 7970M, lets see how that goes
![]()
-
notebookbarebone.de has them for 449euros by the way. Don't know about modded vbios.
-
ive seen that offer and its indeed a good pricing! only problem: its just the bare card without heatsink, x-bracket and matching screws
with mythlogic it would have been around 450€ including shipping and import tax, unfortunately ive tried to get an invoice from them for three weeks before giving up. with R&J Tech its about 50-60€ more, but thats still alrightat least i was able to order directly through their website and even choose P150HM as a compatibility option
-
Didn't notice it was only the bare card. If you don't need the heatsink, its worth a look for those going from a 6970/6990.
-
@jaybee83: I 'm a little affraid about Vat. Price don't include VAT and ups will charge on delivery.
And on rjtech we don't know if they have produvt in stock or only preorder. -
they dont add the american VAT when u order outside of the US. thats what the import tax is for (in my case 19% german tax), and i included that in my calculations already
u have a point@in stock vs. preorder but since other vendors are getting in their stocks these days it should be safe to assume that it wouldnt take R&J too long before they got theirs in, too (if they havent already got them, that is)
-
Also considering 7970m import for Europe. -
oh nice! thanks for the info mate
-
hi mates,i order already the card from myth and im waiting this week to come in my hands(lol)-so im going to post some benches here when it comes
-
I contacted Sager a week or two ago and they quoted me $430 + shipping. They said shipping perhaps end of June so they may be shipping now. I did not bite for a 7970m just yet since I am not in a state where I could receive packages just yet, otherwise I would have ordered a 7970m by now.
-
update: order got confirmed by R&J, they sent me their bank account data, now waiting for my funds to be transferred
one step closer to awesomeness!
@kolias: damn you bro,ull probably be the first HM user to get his hands on a nextgen cardtoulaxiston apo tin patrida!

At least in couple days we going to be more powerfull
Lets show some power bro -
My 7970M just arrived in the mail today. Should have it installed and a few benches run within the day.
EDIT: So I've got the card installed, drivers installed, and everything is running fine so far. Idle temps are sitting at 31C right now with ambient temp of 28C. Time for some benchmarks! -
niiice! first hm user with a nextgen card, congratz buddy! looking forward to those benches!
btw awesome idle temps,dayum!

Sometimes I don't get charged VAT when I use USPS although rare.
Update: My 680M is in the UK (customs), since the 8th, not too long now I hope. -
I sent an email to mysn.de a few days ago and was told that upgrading my P150 to 680M was unsupported due to the chassis lacking Optimus support. Need to find another reseller, I guess. -
P170HM has been successfully installed Clevo GTX680M 4GB -
I'll be ordering a 7970m or GTX 680m tomorrow or Monday. I haven't decided whether or not the extra $320 for the 680m is worth it or not. Though I'm an AMD fan boy, the drivers are starting to drive me crazy.
-
Where are those benches Wallzii?
-
Congratuz wallzii.
Now let's see the benchmarks and temperatures please... -
Congratuz wallzil for you card.
lets see some action please.lol -
cheers

hey wallzill did you said that your volt of your card is 1.00v at full load?
I think is 1.05v max...?
so you cant overclock further than 930 clock and 1500 memory?
but why.....? -
hm we will definitely need more HM users to compare the stock voltage with... i REALLY hope that the modded vBIOS doesnt include lowering the 3D voltage that would suck!
-
I'm running a XMG p702 from mysn.de with a 7970m. I finally managed to overclock it to 950/1500Mhz but haven't tested it during a long period though. This scores a 21756 in 3dMark Vantage, 6499 in 3dmark11.
Not too sure about the bios/voltage details as I'm not too familiar with advanced modding/oc'ing

Alright guys, sorry for the delay! After several days of use, the 7970M has been completely stable and running cool. Idle temps generally fluctuate between 34C-38C depending on what I am doing (not gaming), and under load rarely increase over 70C. My fans have not even come close to kicking in to 100%, so I imagine if I FN+1 them to 100%, temps would be even lower. But honestly, I am enjoying gaming with this performance and these temps and a whisper-quiet machine!
I've got the GPU pasted with ICD, am not using a notebook cooler, and don't have the rear raised at all for extra airflow.
A note on drivers: I have had no driver compatibility issues at all when installing display drivers so far. I uninstalled and ran Driver Sweeper to remove anything relating to my 6970M prior to installing the drivers that came with the 7970M from Sager. I have also been able to install the 12.6 WHQL drivers directly from AMD over the Sager provided drivers, as well as a clean install without the Sager drivers with no detection issues. Currently I am running the 12.7 beta drivers from AMD.
For benchmarks, everything is running at stock clocks of 850/1200. As written in my sig, the 7970M is paired up with a 2720QM CPU. In 3dMark this reduces the overall score a bit compared to our Ivy Bridge brethren, but GPU scores remain on par with what I've seen from both Alienware and Clevo machines. Everywhere else, the Sandy Bridge processor doesn't seem to be holding me back at all. In 3dMark benches, the 7970M isn't recognized by FutureMark and I am assuming this is due to whatever Sager did to the vBIOS to make it compatible with the HM series. I've already contacted FutureMark regarding this, and they have said that this "specific model is not yet properly mapped" and will probably have a fix by Monday.

Now let's talk overclocking. I have been able to push my card to 930/1525 on stock voltage thus far. I am quite happy with the memory getting to the 1500MHz zone, however the core at 930 seems quite lacking when others have been able to push beyond 1000MHz with stock voltage. Even at stock memory clocks, the core won't go beyond 930. It seems that my card is undervolted to 0.83V at idle and 1.00V at load. Reference design for the 7970M is 0.90V at idle and 1.05V at load. Whether this is part of what Sager needed to do to make the 7970M compatible with the HM series or not remains to be seen, and we will have to wait until other HM users get their hands on the 7970M with the modded vBIOS before we know more. It doesn't make sense to me why an undervolt would be necessary, and I am looking into whether or not I would be able to modify the vBIOS further to restore reference voltages. That said, an overclock is totally unnecessary for anything other than benchmarking at this point.
So that's about it really, if there is anything else you guys would like me to run that I haven't just let me know and I'll see what I can do for you. -
aand we have lift-off! awesome benches and data there mate, + rep uve earned it
concerning ur overclock: have u tried leaving the memory at stock and just ocing the core, see if u can reach higher clocks then. once u maxxed out the core, try upping the memory as far as it stays stable. maybe that way ull be able to reach higher core clocks.
also, have u tried using throttlestop 5.0? that may help with the benchmark scores when the card is OCed
im also VERY happy to hear that we HM users wont seem to be having any trouble with the drivers, since were free of that crappy enduro and all the complications it brings with it
temps and scores are awesome and in the range that i was expecting, cant wait to get my card!
and well definitely have to keep an eye on the voltages of other HM users. if it really is the case that the cards were undervolted we should try and change that back to stock! dont wanna waste any performance whatsoever
cheers -
Whoops, totally thought that I wrote in my post that I couldn't push further than 930 core even with memory at stock clocks. I'll edit that part, silly me!
I have tried ThrottleStop but can't seem to get it running properly. Last night I was messing with it and running some CPU benches but I couldn't maintain 3GHz clocks with my CPU for more than 10 seconds or so. After 10 seconds, clocks would drop to 2.7GHz and remain there. Temperatures were well within operational limits. Odd thing being though, if I cranked my fans to 100%, the clocks would go up about 50MHz or so during the bench, and drop back to 2.7GHz when I returned the fans back to normal speed. Seems like some thermal throttling, even though Intel Extreme Tuning Utility tells me there is no throttling being done.
Here's my ThrottleStop settings:
-
hm have u tried contacting prema about providing u a modded BIOS? he did it for me and hardcoded a higher turbo max wattage limit and longer turbo boost duration for my cpu into it. works like a charm
too bad about the max core clock! id be really interested to know if that were different at stock voltage... -
I already contact with myth about the volting thing(1.00v).
and im waiting for reply.
nice job wallzii.+rep
edit:if you go back to the petition thread,on the sager anounce(compability),you will see about the score of P170HM(3DMARK11)that gpu score is lower than yours(5580)and the test was made with i7-2860qm. -
kolias to the rescue
lets see what they have to say about that...
btw still waiting for my bank wire ro go through ugh! takes forever! r&j told me they would contact me right away once they receive the money tho
@wallzii: could u try and dump ur vbios with gpuz or atiflash using a bootable dos usb stick? see if thats possible, would surely be awesome

omg. so it's possible that I can upgrade to a 680m or 7970 in my 170HM3?
jaybee, you're getting a 680 right? Your sig throws me off lol. -
1) Make sure there is a branch of the seller's bank that's accessible to you. Ask them if you can deposit money directly into the seller's account. If yes, then continue to 2).
2) Buy a draft from your bank (don't know how much it'll cost from your bank) and get them to write a note authorizing that they've approved your transfer to the seller's bank account.
3) Go to the seller's bank and drop it off at a customer service rep along with your bank's authorization. The money is instantly deposited and you don't have to wait
Do share your experiences on the 7970m when you get it as I'm kinda on the fence between getting the 7970m or 680m to replace my really crappy 560m. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'm getting a 680m, it's on order now.
-
my sig is correct btw, just couldnt justify paying 60% more for approximately the same performance
too late now anyways, sent the wire off a week ago, so shouldnt be too long now anymore
ill sure will let u guys know once i get my beastly cardso no worries
as for which card to choose,it all depends on the following: how much money can u spend? (approx. equal perf. for 300 bucks difference in price) how important is the energy consumption to you? (680m uses even less power than a 670m, whereas 7970m uses more power) how important are features like physx, 3D vision, etc to you?
for me i just wanted a nextgen card for as lil money as possible with a nice perf boost. at that, theres only the cost to consider thus i chose amd

GTX680M's drivers are very immature at the moment hope they release some good ones soon
(Skyrim + FXAA = game crash, 680M + FFXIV = driver crash)
-
yeah well, nothing new there, thats the (additional) price we pay for being on the bleeding edge of tech
so no complains allowed from u hackness! be happy with ur beastly UBER gpu! -
. But seems like it's real!
-
We test all hardware that leaves our doors =)
so im hoping......
edit:jaybee i remember when i was order the 6970m from pheatan,i was transfer the money from here to chily in one day.why the take so long...
maybe the prepare the special edition for you.... -
sorry, wrong thread
-
just checked online, apparently bank wires from germany to the US can take between 2 and 10 business days to go through. today would be nr. 4....

Another benchmark for you guys. Only posting these as I saw the 680M run test A at 2FPS more and test B at 4FPS more, and some are still on the fence for what upgrade path they want to take. At the end of the day, we all win, and these things are beasts!

I've got the vBIOS pulled, however vBIOS Patcher doesn't recognize it and will not read it. Apparently they are working on a release that will support non-Dell cards that should be released soon.
-
Can you send me the vbios (or add it to the vbios submission thread in the Vbios Patcher forum) so I can take a look at it? -
The vBIOS is now posted on the vBIOS submission forum over at TechInferno. I wonder if you can see why the voltage was lowered from reference levels by Sager on these HM-enabled cards.
