Thnx wallzii for the vbios dump and effort put into benchmarking and temperatures.

Interesting voltages for idle and load. I wonder why Sager did this? Surely this is a conservative approach or is it due to something else?

Thnx once again wallzi. Now with the vbios all HM users* (*except 3d users) can rejoice in buying a 7970m and it will work* (*with a flash of course if it doesn't post)

+++ rep added to you :)

No worries guys, glad I could offer something to the community. I was just fortunate enough to be the first person to get their hands on the modded card, but it looks like everyone else is beginning to get their upgrades soon as well, so that is great news! :D

The voltage thing is weird, and I'm hoping once someone knowledgeable takes a look at the vBIOS from the Sager card they can help explain it and further clarify if it is necessary or not. I've seen no need to overclock for gaming yet, however that itch is still there as always, and eventually will need to be scratched. ;)

Well I can only assume the EM machines will use optimus, will be interesting to compare the HM to the EM and see what impact optimus has compared to enduro.

Thanks. I flashed the vbios on a clevo 7970m and get 1.05V reported at 3d clocks... what did you use for monitoring? I used this nice little gadget here.

Very strange. I am using CPUID Hardware Monitor to check the voltages, and it is showing 0.82V at 2D and 1.00V at 3D. I also downloaded the tool you are using and the results are the same.

My 6970M ran at stock voltages of 0.90V 2D and 1.10V 3D, so this doesn't seem to be related to any other hardware in my system. However if you flashed the vBIOS I provided to another card and voltages were normal, what could possibly be going on?

Now that's weird, really... I flashed it to a Clevo card... I really guess it's the same. Do you have a pic of your card? Front and back? Especially of the VR circuits on the back... would be interesting to see.

Unfortunately when I got the card I was too excited to take any pictures and just installed it ASAP. I could take a look inside and take some pictures for you of the top, but I'd rather not take the heatsink off and remove the card as I don't have any isopropyl alcohol at the moment for a repaste.

Once I get some alcohol I could take some pictures of the back, I'd like to repaste my CPU anyhow.

I guess it's a waiting game again for other HM users to get the 7970M and/or me to get some photos of the back of my card.

I just got notified from RJ Tech that my GTX680m shipped out.

    @HTWingnut
What tools do you for overclocking the 680m?
    Any modified bios files?

    Thanks

Anyone else very happy to own HM series clevo. No offence but it doesn't suffer same issues as em series and we have compatibility with 7970 & 680.

    This is very disappointing.

So... let me get this straight...

The Clevo card has lower clocks but works a bit cooler.
The MSI card has higher clocks and turbo and runs hotter.

    Or are they the same?

Also that MSI card seems to be working at PCI-E 2.0, while Clevo card runs on PCI-E 3.0 when using with the EMs.

well depends what kinda machine u use it in i guess :) maybe the 680M in the MSI was in a lastgen laptop that only has PCI-E 2.0?

besides, i dont really see what the big deal about this turbo feature is. doesnt give u that much more perf, id rather just OC it manually and be happy with the results :) shouldnt change the temps under load much either.

    cheers

I am very happy but more surprised than anything else, I wouldn't mind the backlit keyboard the Em series have though. My 680m has had the status of 'Customs Clearance' since July 08 but at least it is in the UK now. I can't wait to try this one out. Lets face it, the GTX 485M was a damn beast so I expect my 680M to last a very long time.

Well, if that's the case. One can't really conclude that the MSI card is superior to the Clevo card.

They are basically the same cards, with different vBIOS.

For the Clevo to use PCI-E 3.0, it would mean it is using MXM 3.1 . Which as far as I know, is not happening. Is there any difference in PCB MXM connectors?

3.1 and 3.0 are electrically and mechanically compatible to each other, only difference is PCI-E 3.0 vs. 2.0

Make sure you use the question mark to generate 3d load as cards will drop down to 2.0 or 1.0 to save power.

    Hi,

Im am also Interested to order a 680M from rjtech for my P150HM.
But on their site I can only choose P150EM and P170EM as an option for this card.
Which one I have to choose ?

Do I have to flash a special vBIOS to this card to get it to run in an P150HM, or are they run out of the Box ?

    Hi Guys,

I had a question.....is the EUROCOM P150hm Racer and the sager NP8150 the same machine?

Coz if you check the Eurocom website, it lists the 680M as a possible upgrade option. ( $852 + change, including taxes and shipping )

So if they are the same machines, does it mean that the 680M will work out of the box without any bios changes?

I reached out to Eurocom and am still waiting for a reply.

if u go through with the order, then choose P150EM, since the heatsinks are 100% compatible with the P150HM machines.
as for gpu compatibility, initial reports suggest that the 680M would run out of the box in our HM laptops, since it was shown to run in a P170HM without any soft or hardware mods already. thus it shouldnt need a modded vBIOS like the 7970M does, but we can´t say 100% for sure yet. chances are just looking good right now :)

they are indeed the same machine. as mentioned above, it really does look like the 680M will work right out of the box with the HM machines. keep us updated on eurocom´s answer tho! would be good to know for sure :)

Oh, my mistake then. Carry on

We're t they discussing in one of the cooling threads about how the last gen heatsinks had better tension arms? I you've got the choice and the HM fits, I'd probably go with that one..

hm true that! maybe he could try and mod his current heatsink to fit the 680M (if it even needs to be modded, since i hear that the 485M/580M/675M heatsinks are compatible). if that doesnt work, he could still just switch to the included P150EM heatsink :)

We do not have P150HM to test it, some customers said it is compatible but we cannot guarantee it.

    Hi Jaybee,

Did you receive your card yet?
It should be delivered by DHL, but once i do the track and trace it says that it was supposedly delivered yesterday morning (during a time when I was still at home)

What is weird, it said: loaded onto delivery truck at 07:20 AM
    Delivered at 07:21 AM
