So long as the 680m comes with an original version of the vbios yes.

Once the 680m is installed, is there a different vbios that can be flashed to resolve the sleep issue?

Well that's frustrating. How do we know what vbios is on it? I have no idea where to look when it comes to sellers for this kind of stuff. Is it best to go with second hand since it's not relatively new anymore? I don't trust a lot of people on ebay...

If it's second hand then it might have been flashed by the owner too.

Ok well, does anyone know a trustworthy reseller that stocks these things? I'm kinda shocked no one has mentioned one at this point...

Also from this thread I believe it's safe to assume the 80.04.29.00.01 is the stock vbios for the 680m?

Mostly they come off ebay or your original reseller or the members market here.

It will still likely shut down since the sager/clevo system experts a temp signal on two of the pins that other cards don't send.

It's that signal that if the ec does not get it goes into panic mode and shuts off.

Any high performance paste with a high viscosity should work.

Hello everyone. A couple months ago my 6990m went out (doesn't seem to be that uncommon) and I am trying to find a compatible card.

I currently have a sager clevo p170hm. The card I am considering as a replacement is the 7970m. To my understanding, I will have to find a clevo card and then flash the bios to one with enduro disabled (like the one in jaybee's guide)

    Rjtech
Laptop Video Cards :: ATI HD 7970M 2GB Mobile Video Card - R&J Technology, Clevo Barebone Notebook kits, Laptop and desktop system builder

The rjtech card seems to be fairly priced, and I don't think I even need the heatsink since I have my old 6990m.

However, the website states the card won't work with hm model.

So, does anybody know if that particular card could be flashed and then work in my p170hm?

Or if anybody has a better idea (different vendor, vbios etc) any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

EDIT: I also found this vbios. Is it a better option, or somehow "safer" for the display? http://forum.techinferno.com/clevo/4428-modified-clevo-7970m-vbios-pack-non-enduro.html
