You could use the latest set from laptopvideo2go.com with a modified inf most likely.

Did you already find this thread where LaptopNut recounts his experience in getting the 680m to work and also has a link to where he explains how to mod the INF file yourself so that you can basically use any drivers from NVIDIA with your 680m? It has worked for me in the past, although I have not updated in a while. Enjoy the 680m, mine has been working flawlessly for over a year now.

showing gpu usage jump as well 20-88 %.vbios 015.22,enduro off, drives i tried 13-4_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql with enduro off and amd_catalyst_13.8_mobility_beta2 no difference.Any ideas ? thnx.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out tomorrow.

Everything is working great so far, I will inform my self about overclocking and all of that stuff. I'm planning on doing a very light OC. Just to test how everything goes.

    Cheers!

After a year, my HD7970M in my NP8150 stopped working about 3 months back. It was bought directly from Sager, replacing a dead HD 6990M which also died in a year...

Sager probably won't replace the card (still waiting on a reply after having mailed it over) so now I'm stuck with a non-working, unsaleable NP8150..

Hey guys, hoping to get a little help here...

I bought a 7970M for my NP8150. I flashed the stock voltage vBIOS from Jaybee's thread and it seemed to go fine... installed Windows fine as well. Got to the desktop and Windows automatically installed drivers but everything looked off. The actual windows seemed to display in the correct resolution but any displayed text or pictures in the windows were very blurry. Checked device manager, there's a warning on the HD7970M. Code 43. I tried installing Catalyst 13.9 and it succeeded, but the driver seems to not actually work - trying to open CCC fails and returns a "driver not installed" error. Also I don't think the Catalyst installer is finding the hardware correctly. On the finish installation page it says "other hardware".

Is it possible a bad vBIOS flash could cause errors like this? Am I screwed?

So long as you can get to DOS you are not screwed, try reflashing the bios.

I have found a 680m GTX card only i.e. not part of a kit, not heatsinks, for my Clevo P150HM and am interested in swapping this with the current 485m GTX:
    ebay
Can you use the 485m GTX heatsinks on a 680m GTX?

The 680m GTX that is available is also the 2GB version, not the 4GB. From what I understand the 4GB version is overkill with the extra 2GB really only being required for multiple monitor setups and 4K texture mods in games like Skyrim. Is this correct? I'd appreciate some other opinions.
EDIT: found this thread: Upgrade 680M 2GB to 680M 4GB

EDIT: This post stating the 2GB version is incompatible with the P150HM is of concern. Again, any comments appreciated: Clevo P150HM Upgrade Advice
EDIT 2: Also this: Dell 680m

I dont know if the heatsink is compatible but it should be. About the GPU's the clevos will work ONLY with the 4 GB version one. Alienware can work with both 2GB and 4GB. The one you linked is 2GB and it will not work with your clevo.

I cannot confirm a 100% compatibility but i had mounted a 580m heatsink on a 680m (when i made some test) and it worked, the gpu, memory chips and vrm are almost at the same place on the 580m and on the 680m.
And like you know the 580m is just a 485m with higher clock. The cards are both rated for 100W , so the heatsink are almost identical.
You have just to verify if the thermal pad are in the good place.

Edit: How thick are the thermal pads you guys used for the gpu? I was using 1mm on my 6990M but I think it's too thin.

Guys, can you help me? I have a Clevo 150HMx laptop and I need to upgrade the VGA (It's a GTX460M) but I have some questions to this mod:

    - Where can I find the lastest BIOS for my board? I have searched on google but no success... Below is my Biosagentplus result:

    BIOS Type:AMI
    BIOS Date:April 7th, 2011
    BIOS ID:4.6.4
    BIOS OEM:4.6.4
    Chipset:Intel 104 rev 9
    SuperIO:Unknown
    Make/Model:CLEVO P150HMx

    - 7970 or 680M? which is the best for this laptop? Does the 7970 has any issue with the HDMI? I found the best prices in 7970 upgrade kit...

    - The cooler/dissipation kit of my 460M will fit it?

    - My Power adapter will supply enough energy?

Sorry about my several questions, but i will spend lot of money in this upgrade and I can't make mistakes...

    Thanks Tonrac.

I entered the BIOS and the version is: 1.01.08NS1 and EC: 1.00.04

I think I will need to upgrade my PSU, it's a PA-1131-07 and have only 135w...

Update both your Bios and EC to latest, yours are old. Don't count on the HDMI to work with the 7970, it most likely will not.

Yeah, hopefully it will not heavier than the current...

So I repasted my laptop (in sig) today. Turns out there was a patch on the GPU core that had no paste  and the CPU had patches of no paste as well :D

    CPU idle: 40C
    GPU idle: 35C
    Room temp: 26C

    Prime95 CPU burn: 75C
    Kombustor burn test: 85C
    Normal gaming: 70-75C

All stock, tape mod, grills on back cover cut, CM X-Slim cooler. The GPU fans will respond to change in temperature, but they are too slow (first speed bump at 75C ish).

    OC: 850/2500
    Kombustor Temp: 90C
I keep getting throttled at this speed, Kombustor doens't fail though.

I know of people have claimed sub-70C underload, what tricks did you cool people use?

Be aware that it can look like there are patches missing but there can be corresponding bits on the heatsink itself that match the spaces.

I have just put a 680M in my P150HM notebook. It boots up and i can use Windows (8.1 Pro).
But i have problems with installing the driver.

I tried different drivers (also beta drivers) with modded inf in 304.79, 326.80, 331.40, 331.82 but everytime i got the same error like in the attached picture (german language).
When the nvidia installer tries to install the graphic card driver it gets an error.

Any ideas how i can install the driver?

The strange thing is, is a Dell 680M which shouldnt work in the P150HM, but it boots up and everything is ok. VBIOS is 80.04.01.29.01

You need to make sure you do an advanced restart with driver signing enforcement off.

Once it's installed this is not needed any more but each time you install a modded set you will need to do it.

The setting will revert on the next reboot.

It's all in your hands at this point, I can't offer any guarantees. Worst case is the bios bricks the card and you will need to send it to be manually flashed.

Can someone tell me which thermal pads are good to use for a 7970m in my p170hm (pads for VRAM Heatsink)? My original ones are looking bad after some trouble with the 7970m and a couple of exchange procedures :)

Looked after some thermal pads, found Phobya 7wk and 5wk with 0,5mm to 1,5mm thickness and fujipoly ones with 17wk and 0,5mm to 1mm thickness.. are they good enough, has someone exchanged the pads also?

and.. some new OC Score ;)

Dell card has 2GB, Clevo has 4GB.

One person cross-flashed it and it could be recovered but crashed on driver installation...
(also if you would flash any version higher that v29 you would not be able to reflash it in your system as it would no longer pass the BIOS at all).

Is your system the 3D model?

I haven't read this entire thread, but I did browse some things but i just want to be perfectly clear prior to ordering a new video card for my P150HM (currently I have a 6990M). The 4GB Clevo (not Dell) 680M is plug n play (no vbios flashing required) correct? And the 7970M requires a vbios flash. I just want the easiest/quickest installation, price isn't really an issue.
