sorry buddy I missed your email, I'll add you to the list, I was having such difficulties I took a break from this project, and I'm far to busy for probably at least a month (minimum) to make any more and I have a few other projects which pay much better - so I have to be sensible about what I spend my very limited time on!

Hey Calibre41, have you made any copper ones yet?

What's the price on the aluminum CPU block with cheapest possible shipping to Finland?

Like I said earlier in this thread I'm interested in one :p

    Hi Cal !

    How is it going?
I was wondering where I was in the waiting queue exactly :p
As Diego said, I understand you have a lot of other things to manage, no worries.
    Hope your doing well!

hi buddy, I've not been doing them for a while, so the list hasnt really reduced.... I have the list on my 256gb SSD but I'm currently laptopless! waiting for more stock of the W230ST to arrive so I can tweak the cut procedure.

I'll have to accept reality and charge a reasonable fee for the time I take to make one which is roughly 1.5-2 hours + stock and cutter cost so we're in to £30-35 odd a piece which I find a bit unfair but it is what it is I suppose - nothing I can do about it - these things just have to be cut slowly or they bend - the base is only 1.52mm thick and the profile is 7mm high so it's putting alot of bending stress through the 1.52mm base and it buckles.

I'd like to see this for the w230st, these would sell like hot cakes considering how the new machine runs so hot

Just a quick unrelated question, where did you tap the fan into to run the fan power without effecting the lappy. Im looking to add some leds to my laptop but i dont know where it would be safe to tap the power into without effecting performance of anything. I have all the tools to do it. Just want to make sure that it wont pull power from places unknown. I have a multimeter, solder gun, solder, flux, and wires.

edit: the leds are rated for 8-12 volts DC

This is the strip I have, can be cut to almost any length, it will be cut to a 3led strip and 3m taped in place.
LED STRIP <---Click here for the info on the strip (the plastic waterproofing cover will be removed. I believe its about 2mm thick w/o the cover)

My W230ST should be with me this time next month............. I might do a little something with her...... ;)

I believe HTWingNut's mod tapped in to the USB connector that the micro USB receiver is plugged in to within the photo's you quoted. Take it from me, (and HTWingNut will CERTAINLY back me up here) - you need to be extremely careful when working in this area, as it's all to easy to blow the whole mobo - hence why I have an extra W110ER motherboard paper weight in my workshop!

And that doesn't make me feel comfortable at all about modding my new laptop :p

I have a A+ cert, but to have a 3.5k laptop sh** the bed on me is not what i want to happen

edit: ill probally just look at the wires that connect to the speakers or the light for the keyboard and see what voltage i get from them. I also have a thunderbolt port on the laptop but im unaware at the amount, if any, of the voltage supplied to it.

OR just connect them to the fan wires on the CPU, but first I need to check and see how much voltage and amps go though it...

editx2: Is the reason that the bricked mobo happened is because when soldering it you shorted it out (by soldering too close), or because there wasnt enough power coming from the USB and it fried out the mobo because it was trying to pull to much.

I wonder if its possible to direct tap into the power plug in the back of the laptop, i think its 12v, as for the amps coming off it, im unaware. Ill have to see if its even possible.

This mod will be after my warranty is up though. more or less just to get that look that the asus has on the rear exhaust ports. with UV light :D

Any progress on a replacement block for the front chip?

Do you intend to continue this once you have the w230?

    Hello all!

I'm not normally in the habbit of bringing up dead posts, but I recently got myself a W110ER (which by the way, I think is just pure condensed win!), but the thing tends to run very hot and gets there pretty quickly too.
I found this page while doing some general research on the laptop and didn't really think much of it at the time, but now I think anything that might keep the thing cooler would be a must.
Are these copper coolers still being made, if not, does anyone have an old/spare one they would be willing to sell?

    Regards,

Oh dear, I bet we have all missed the boat on this one unfortunately. I'm really interested in the custom heatsinks for the CPU + chipset.
