I think I'll be the last guy in these subforums to be stuck with Maxwell and Haswell in his primary machine, specifically first-gen Maxwell... Not to mention my love for small laptops. But that would make @Mr. Fox blow a nut, hehe..

 

No, I want the DM3. KM3 would be using Z270 and I would be locked to Windows 10 due to lack of driver support on Windows 8.1/7. I don't want Windows 10 as my primary OS... ever. Not until they remove all its forced update and breaking things constantly on update crap. I will, however, be reviewing the machine using Windows 10. I'll have to dual-boot the machine.

Eh you do your thing. And no, I think some people might keep it longer. Truth be told, if my current system wasn't half-dead, I wouldn't even be getting this, because it's help from my family that's putting up my side of the money. They know my PC is pretty much everything to me.

 

Oh, damn, forgot about that. Windows 10 is a no-go for me; 8.1 with AeroGlass and StartIsBack is perfect. Get the DM3 ASAP though, as places will start clearing stock for the KM.

*shrug* I paid nearly US$1760 in July 2014 for my notebook with a GTX 860M and i7-4710MQ. Back then the 860M was all the rage. For that sort of money today (probably in excess of US$1800 when accounting for inflation), I can get the P650HS-G with a few more bells and whistles, and which comes with a CPU and GPU that are in so-called significantly higher performance brackets.

Everyone says the 960M is a budget GPU. In truth, notebooks with the 960M only got so affordable near the end of its life. Today, we have notebooks with the GTX 1050 Ti already going for less than US$1000. And yet people think I'm salty when I say the 1050 Ti doesn't replace the 860M/960M. Price-wise, definitely not. The latter is nearly twice as expensive as the former upon release.

I want to get my money's worth. My notebook will definitely work entirely properly for at least half a decade before I feel like swapping out at least the HDD in case of mechanical failure. And then I have two SSDs which I hardly ever write much to. They will last, too.

 

Well for better or worse, I think I'll start getting the ordering process started on Monday. I'm gonna work out what I should get, though at this current time it's leaning more toward single 1080, and I'll sort out everything. When I've paid, regardless of which configuration I get, I'll ask for donations to stop here. Once I pay that'll be the end of it.

I do want 1080 SLI, but I can't re-use the mSATA SSDs from this machine because M.2 is the new format, and I'd otherwise have a single HDD for the new machine. I also need upgraded RAM for it, 32GB of the 3000MHz RAM is up my alley. If I check the checkboxes off, the RAM and 1080 SLI, and the dual PSUs I need, it's outside my budget. Even if I could say, maybe I could find SSDs later, I still couldn't afford the base system. I know I plan to as best as I could fix and sell (or simply even part out) the P370SM3 once I get the new system, but that's still post-purchase. I'll balance the budget as best I can though and see what I can get. Hopefully there'll be a way for me to get SLI and the RAM and at least a 256GB OS drive somewhere. I don't even truly care if it's NVMe honestly; just a good MLC drive.

I remember the prices. I remember how much people were praising 860M too; 750Ti as well. They were next gen when we had current gen, though... it was obvious they'd be a class above. But then 900M came out and poof.

You could probably wait for Volta and whatever comes after Kaby lake. There's too many lakes; I can't remember them all.

How close, exactly?

I have an old 512GB M4 lying around with somewhere around two full disk writes if you want it. Not the newest kid on the block, but it's MLC.

 

With the RAM, 1080 SLI, 660W adapter, and the killer 1535ac and 1080p/120Hz, I'd need about $1364 in total. It's $1125 (I know it says 30 here, but the folks at Eurocom said 1125 is total) with the 20 pounds sent earlier, so about $220 to be safe. If I don't get the RAM now and try to get it aftermarket, then $20 or so extra.

Honestly, this would probably help no matter what I get, we could talk about it in PM?

I'll be able to purchase (pay for) it tomorrow. Since it took me 5 days to load the visa (started on tuesday) and they don't reply to e-mails on the weekend generally.

I'm hoping Eurocom will come through like ultimate bros and find the N173HHE-G32 screen for me at similar cost to the existing 1080p AUO, as well as 4 x 8GB 3000MHz G.Skill. But I'll need to find out tomorrow xD.

If not I'll be taking 16GB modules and the 1080p AUO 120Hz!

Do you mean the B173HAN01.2 for the FHD 120Hz? The model I wanted was the Chi Mei panel that Mobius asked about that you said you didn't have a data sheet for. I just want the reduced ghosting, essentially.

The B173QTN01.0 I know will drive me nuts. If it had better colours and no banding, I would have jumped at it.
