Any idea how much slower?
I will say I have seev vids of AvP with DX11 and it looks sick!
I'm guessing it don't look as good with it disabled, but still pretty enough![]()

I have a w860cu preordered with a 5870, only going to have a i5 520m at first though. Hope I get it in 2 weeks or less.
Anybody have any idea how well the 5870 overclocks? I'm thinking that heat shouldn't be much of a problem at 50w stock as the w860cu can handle the 100w fx 3800m. -
clocking it to 800/1100 should be okay, I think. Not sure how the 860 is when it comes to heatmanaging though
-
It OC's very well go look at the ASUS G73 benchmark thread.
Mandrake is the master -

A master at inputting a few numbers and pressing a button, and having the advantage of living in a cold region? Okay.

Hence why the purchase of DX11 cards should be held off until notebook GPU performance improves beyond MR 5870 levels, unless the user enjoys low FPS or reduced settings.

And Blacky calls the sarcasm bluff.
-
So would you guys rather have tesselation or PhysX?
If it cuts frame rates in half then DX11 is only good for desktops that have the power to use it. -
Hopefully RJTech gets the 5870m's in this week. I'll probably order 2 of them right away.
-
For a single card, DX11 isn't that useful. In Crossfire it should be fine since x-fired 5870s with a mild OC should be as fast as a desktop 5870. -
The 5870 is amazing but only if your laptop has the horsepower to use it.
Now at least we have a choice -
Might not work until Dell releases an official R2 with 5870's. -

$5 says that users are going to ditch the MR 5870 once the GTX 380M comes out.
-
I dunno, I have a new bios so it might already have it. Or the R2 may not even need a bios update. -
Hey, if you have the cash to throw around I don't blame you for trying
lol
I just hope the price RJ sells them for is reasonable. -
If it works I'll just ebay my 4870s. I think it will work though. If not, well then RJTech has a decent return policy albeit a restocking fee. -
I hope it does work.
Do all of the 5870's have the CF connector on the PCB? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
We will find out this week. If they do, then it's a surefire sign that the X8100 will get CrossFire MR 5870's.
-
I totally agree Soviet I seriously think that unless you are in desperate need of a GPU upgrade then wait for the new Nvidia (Arrive in Q3 of this year ?), the new release will most likely be faster even if it doesnt support DX 11 I will still be getting one of those over the MR 5870.
-
I'm 99% sure the 5870s will have a crossfire connector. These are likely being released specifically for the X8100 with the other Clevos as an after thought.
-
Hopefully it's relatively soon. -
I can agree and say that I think they will be released for it, but the only official word from Clevo has been for the W860/870. -
I'm surprised it hasn't since it wouldn't make sense for Clevo to create a new dual card machine and not support crossfire. So assuming they did, then these new 5870s probably all have crossfire connectors because of the x8100--that's what I meant. -
Yeah, I got ya.
I just found it odd that the X8100 can't be pre-ordered with the 5870's like the W8x0 series. They just released it too. You would think that they could have held off a few more weeks and just brought it out with the newer GPU's.
Can't wait to see some benches of the CF 5870's -
Hopefully AW gave me a bios that has the microcode for it. If it does, I'll litter the M17x benchmark thread with them. -
-
-
I will bet $5 that I will choose whichever is faster
-
I can't say it any better myself!
Had do many bad dealings with ATI in the past and it left a sour taste in my mouth even if the 5870 is a great GPU. -
I cant say im in love with either company...but really imo if you want to wait for the fastest card, you'll be waiting for ever.
-
I don't care what the GTX 380M is based from; if it's faster than the Mobility 5870 (which is a rebadged card in it's own right), I want in on it.
-
How do we know its faster already? I must have missed some benchmarks.

I hope oled screens go mainstream after Cebit. That would make my day.
-
-
Any news on when more retailers than just rjtech will allow to pick the 5870 instead of the 285?
-
The general concensuss is after Cebit. So after March
-
-
Ye sorry I meant we are in march. Got months worng sorry.

After Cebit could mean anywhere from a week after Cebit to 10 years time. It will really dependant on stock, shipping/transport movement and considerations and the levels ordered by Clevo, as well as other deals and contracts in place.
-
@fluffyuk
How does the GTX258(your sig) compare with 5870? -
lol gets battered all over the place by the 5870. Havent been able to test Crysis yet which is heavily Nvidia so that should be one to look forward to, however Batman AA and synthetics clearly show 5870 is better, I will have propper results up tonight. after I get working driver.s
-
FYI, RJTech has updated their site to where the 5870 is no longer pre-order when selected. I wonder if they are in stock now?
-
Just spoke with RJTech and they said the 5870 will be available to purchase seperately next week for about the same as the 285M.
-
B-b-but ATI means cheaper!
-
Yeah i may end up ordering the 8760 this week
... Still on the fence but its looking like this will be the direction i head for what i need ....
With the 920 CPU sitting here and 2x500gigs i need a computer to put them in and this price is pretty much a no brainer... Crossing my fingers it does not sound like a leaf blower under load...

I like that
Does anyone have CLEVO with HD5870 ?
