That is why I start when I fall asleep, then I dream about all the wonderful things I can do with a 470m. Too bad some time later I wake up.

sigh...the desktop vs laptop discussion is is just a bit more off topic then the last few posts(pardon me If I'm being to forward). Anyways, I can confirm that the FFXIV benchmark does not use SLI/CF. The highest score with FFXIV was 8001 reached with an 980x on low, the high score I think got to 5500 or so. Here is the thread if you want to check out all the scores.

I mean, the desktop vs laptop thing does have one point: by knowing what the laptop equals to in the desktop world, one can understand the laptop easier, because more people have knowledge in desktop hardware than laptop hardware.

But yeah it's mostly still a useless discussion.

FFXIV is the only application more complicated than a web browser that I plan on using my NP8690 /w GTX 470M for. It’s sad really, poor programming on DX9 technology is the bottleneck... Oh well, since this notebook runs the game at decent frame rates maybe I’ll keep it for a few years.

Yeah... Sadly I would be running Crysis so I need at least two of those 470M's.

Tech 17, Could you please post GPU-Z 0.4.8 on GTX 470M? Also, can you run Batman Arkham Asylum Benchmark on 1920 X 1080, very high details, but with no AA, and set Physx to High? Thanks in advance.

For comparison heres my ATI 7820m (5870m) in Crysis, the Card is flashed at 800/1100 24/7 ... My native res is 1920x1200 which gives me about 2fps less in the benchmark but i ran them at 1920x1080 just to see... I ran both High and Very High..

hmm... seems about 12% faster than my 5870MR with both on stock, not too bad, but not enough for me to upgrade, especially given the price.

Speaking of news, any news of using the 470m in sli in the x8100 or x7200 ?

I bet, that after amd launches its 6xxx mobility radeon part, we will see a "100W" 470m, labeled 485m, that will be king of the hill again, and after that we will wait for it to appear in dual configuration. ANd in this case only the x7200 will be capable for such a feat.

I sure am curious to see how a pair of 100W TDP 470ms will fare in SLI.

In Crysis you only get 2-3 fps more from Overclocking vs stock so its nothing to write home about :)..

The 470m seems like a great overclocker though based on those Vantage scores from stock to Overclocked...

My card at 800/1100 brings it a little closer to his stock performance though as i hit around 8900 ? on the GPU in Vantage..

Im sure the reason there is no 470m right now in the X7200 is Clevo is waiting till they run out of 480s otherwise people would not bother buying the 480 at all based on what has been seen of the 470m ...

Congratulations! To the most powerful 15" laptop on the planet. And not just by squeeking by but to have less power draw with a 10-20% peformance gain over last gen. top cards is a testament. I have to give it to Nvidia by taking a page out of ATI on creating their card's architecture now more efficient. I have to add this to my Christmas list :D . Still don't agree on the price but hey....you have to pay to play.

To answer one of your questions...I have a 460m and overclocked it using the stock voltage to achieve around 8400 GPU only score in 3dmark Vantage. So yes you can overclock the 460m and achieve the stock 470m's performance (at least on vantage...).

This chip is so awesome, if only it was $250-$300 less.

As it stands, the Mobility 5870 is still the most logical chip to buy.

Instead of waiting for the manufacturer to release a higher wattage PSU, why doesn't someone take the dive and buy another one to run in parallel? Yes, you would have to do some splicing. Yes your power brick would be the size of a cinder block.

Plus the cost factor i don't think is very realistic ..

If you spliced a couple bricks together and had an issue with either of them or both then you could be forced to buy a 3rd brick just to get back to square one ..

I guess if you have money to burn though it would be worth a shot :)..

I could see Dexgo trying this as he seems to be the "take one for the team" kinda guy :D - JK Dex ;)..

Thank you for this excellent thread :D

I recently purchased a W860CU with a 470M and i7 740QM, currently waiting for delivery. The benchmarks posted in this thread have reassured me greatly, but i have seen a few people voicing concerns over the supplied 120W PSU... will this be sufficient to power the system at stock settings, or will instability occur if the system is pushed (high end gaming)?

    Here is the Deal.
Compared to the FULL geforce 104 chip, the 470m has
    288/384 shaders
    24/32 ROPs
    192bit/256bit bandwith

Now, Compared to the full Geforce 106 chip, the 460m has
    192/192 shaders
    24/24 ROPs
    192bit/192bit bandwith.

The FULL geforce 104 chip architecture, with a few more tweeks, its gonna be called Geforce 560 Desktop, and we will see it in january or something.

Of the two, i preffer a full chip, and not a dumbed down version.
So i will get the 460m sli, ill place the order in 2 weeks or so. Hope we will see each other here , me providing benches.

Well put. Now can someone please point me the the right direction for this problem:

    GPU-z on battery
    [IMG]

I dont agree with downclocking CPU/GPU on battery, but this is ridiculous; my alienware m11x blows this thing away while on battery...
My last notebook, ASUS G73JH /w ATI 5870 preformed 0 downclocking while on battery and gave me a good 45 min of gaming (3 times more then i need). Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS: thats the "high" on battery; if i enabled power saver its even lower...

You can buy a much more powerful PC at a much lower price if plugging into the wall is a requirement; its called a desktop.
Why wouldn’t you conceder gaming on battery? Are you only a good gamer if you have a device that needs to be plugged into a wall? Is this really a question?

Can anyone please add anything valuable?

    Watch my previous post.
460m is a full working geforce 106 chip, 470m is a dumbed down version of geforce 104 chip.
Thats why i preffer the 460m. Cheaper and Full.

Maybe he needs 15 20 minutes or so to enter WoW and add something to the auction house.

Maybe this is how this laptop\bios handles things on battery.
Mx11 is made in such a way that is works full clock on battery, and maybe this one is made in such a way that it only "works" on battery.

Isn't there a way to UP the clock on battery ? Like some sort of overcloking on battery, if i may so bold as to called it that !

    1. You are assuming that the only place with wall socket is your home. You can't carry a desktop + monitor + keyboard around, but you can carry a desktop replacement laptop around, and plug into wall socket outside your home. This point is being argued till death but sometimes people still can't get it.

    2. If you are talking about gaming on flash games, or 5 years+ old games then sure. Otherwise, when you game on battery, there are 2 scenarios, one is, any laptop with a decent GPU stressed will not give you decent battery life. The other case is, if it can give you decent battery life, most of the time it means that the GPU on that laptop sucks, and probably can't run any modern games at any decent settings.

I sometimes play Warcraft 3 on battery. I also played Darksiders on battery a few weeks ago when the power went off for half an hour.

I also played a few times while in flight.

People also tend to forget that the battery cannot deliver the same performance as the PSU. If you would run that 940XM and GTX 470M with max clocks on battery it will damage your battery and eventually destroy your laptop.

This is really irrelevant. From a design point of view, the 470m is superior to the 460m.
