thats really odd, why would they throw a card that 2 months old ??? is there somthing wrong with the 470m ??? babyhymi do you have any idea whats going on ?
-
I think the 580M is going on along side Sandy Bridge
.
-
-
I liked it when the GTX 280M came out at $490. -
.
-
When the GTX 280M was priced, I really thought Nvidia had come to understand how to be competitive. One can only hope that they repeat the 9800M GTX (expensive) -> GTX 200M (faster while 1/2 the price) cycle.
-
There is no info on the pricing for 500 series cards is there?
-
-
When GTX 470M was priced Nvidia was competing with a GPU at a die size of 366mm^2 that they'd been selling for little to no profit for several months. -
hmm will that mean they would drop support for the 470m ?? OH WAIT they did not even support it yet !!!!!! nVIDIA you are my fav company but now hmm you still me fav company but its a little less, i hate you !!!
-
You guys need to chill out a little - all that's happened is that sager have said the 470M isn't available in their W860CU equivalent any more. Who knows why (well if you think about it it's obvious) but other companies still offer it - just because sager dropped it from one line doesn't mean the card is discontinued.
-
its quite the opposite @jonob, we who are "kind of" freaking out are the ones who bought the w860 with the 470m, so when they discontinue it there has to be a reason and we are just curious to know the reason (it fails on the long run, want to sell new model etc...), the only thing that is reassuring and troublesome at the same time is that its still going on the other models, its reassuring since that mean there is nothing wrong with the card or otherwise nVIDIA would have discontinued it from all the laptops, buts its worrying because that would mean the card is not fit in the 860-870 line for a reason because if its was for the new model they would have stop the card for all not just 2 laptop lines, anyway thats me at 2 am so i know that probably i will edit this a lot or even remove it in the morning xD
-
GTX 470M isn't getting discontinued, Nvidia is just giving the GPU to a new name.
-
GTX 570M, hoooooo!
-
-
-
So, back to 470M. What driver is everyone using? I don't think official drivers past 259 will ever come out. So... what can I upgrade to?
I want to give the new Toshiba mobile 265.89 a try to see if it works. Anyone tried it yet? -
580M is looking to be > 75W.
If I were you, I'd just look forward to the 6900M -
Spec: Sager 8690, i7-740, GTX 470M, 8G ram
I decided to try out 265.89 from laptopvideo2go.com. The installation went fine and everything works except brightness control. But it is not a big deal because you can still adjust brightness before windows starts. I just adjusted it to what I wanted then and I will never need to adjust it again. So in this regard it is really not an issue because who the hell adjust their brightness setting everyday?
Now to driver performance. Before any benchmarking was done, just as a general "feel" to the system, I honestly can't say anything feels different from the stock sager "259.something". Here are my observations.
GPU Idle temp:
before: 39C
after: 40C, sometimes idle at 42~43C... oh wait, does typing this post count as GPU idle???
GPU temp after 30 min furmark extreme burn test:
before: max at 71
after: max at 71
comment: no change what so ever. But I am quite pleased at the low temps. Maybe this is a sign to overclock?
3dmark vantage:
before: 8340
after: 8570
comment: you can read it whichever way you want, I wouldn't call it groundbreaking improvement tho
Gaming fps:
I don't actually run fraps when I game. But here is my situation. I have 3 games that I play: SC2, Civ 5, and NBA 2k11. All 3 games already play at max setting fluently under the old 259 driver. And now with the driver update they all still play at max fluently. So even if there were improvements I can't really tell without actually doing more work (install fraps). But the point is, I got this machine to play games and replace my 4 years old macbook pro. It plays all the games I have perfectly. Will it be able to play the games I want 2 years in the future? Probably not, but can you say the same for any laptop or laptop video card? Maybe SLI/crossfire solutions but come on.
Final conclusion:
According to my furmark temps, my 470M seems to have a lot of overclocking headroom. I have a lot of room (from 71C to 85C) to play with in terms of overclocking but at this point I really don't feel the need to do it. If I really want to go all out I will probably get a cryo lx notebook cooler which will likely drop my temps to below 40C at idle and allow me even greater room for OC. But again I don't see the point right now. I am not going to worry about "futureproofing" because nothing is truely futureproof. However I do wish my macbook pro held on for a few more months instead of dying in Oct. That would have allowed me to wait till like Feb to buy a laptop with SB + 6970M/580M. Oh well...
So, to those of you who are looking to buy a laptop. Don't buy it now if you can help it. Buy it when the new stuff comes out. Altho by the time laptop manufactures get the new mobo, SB, and next gen mobile videocards together it will probably be Feb before you get it in your hands. To those of you who already bought 460M or 470M. Enjoy it! The difference is really like 60 fps vs 66 fps (10% improvement), it is something to brag about but in the grade scheme of things it really doesn't matter as much as people think it does. -
Use CTRL + ALT + F to see what FPS you are getting on SC2. Since the game has a built-in fps counter.
-
Upon further investigation, I switched to 265.66 from Asus. This is because 265.89 constantly keeps all clocks at max even at idle. 265.66 does not have that problem.
-
HEY Iccup congrates mate ^__^
hope you are happy with the new beast
oh and SC2 POWNS xD
im using 189 until now since most of the games i use are mostly from 2009 so i bet all of them has already been profiled sooo no increase in fps but not that i needed any in the first place, i already tried about 13 games and only 2 i had trouble with: GTA IV and Split/Second and gta IV got fixed with patches and now i get 50 fps ^__^ but for split/second i just put it on high and it plays wonderful im not sure if it got somthing with the game or if it needs patching but the game is really great and i could careless about the graphics atm
anyway glad you recvied yours buddy and congrates again -
I think it's ironic after bit**ing at Nvidia a week ago about not having official driver update for us NP8760 owners with GTX470M, they come out with 266/35 drivers for us.
Testing them now.

yep i looked it up on the sager site as people said. other vendors may have em but sager says its been "phased out" so im guessing that the 4 series are already neem slated out like the 3 series of what u call a 3 series without an enthuisast card. i reckon they got the 5 series ready and just waitng for the remaing for cards to be sold.
The notebooks that had the 4 series will have a "refresh" and be about 10-15% faster than the 4 series as we all no that the 5 series will be rebadged (in other words...they got it right how they should of for the 4 series) as you can see how quick the releasing the 5 series already. waing to be sold wid sand bridge. done get me wrong i do think there will be excess stock 4 series and sandy bridge...just not many. what u guys think?
its the only thing i can think of to why it would be phased out already despite the 470m been a very good card. -
hmm.. i would disagree with you at this point since the entire 4xx series is still going with no problems at all and the 460 is hitting records (because of the price mainly xD) and the only card thats been off is the 470m which is the newest so that might give you the idea of "oh lets give them 470m, OH its doing well, way too well, damit we should have made them pay more for it, oh well its not too late get it back boys" xDDD, anyway the 5xx will be rebadge and this is for granted but as to the fate of the 4xx series i still have high hopes for it, and for the reason the 470 has been phased out i already stated my idea and others who shared the same thing but im too lazy to write it again and too lazy to look for it
, (going to play mirror edge
i dont know why but after a long gameplay in that game i feel exusted like if it was me whose runing xDDD), oh and dont forget that the newly introduced flagship is 485 which IS from the 4xx series.

clevo-w860cu-840qs-gtx470m-8g-7k500+5k750-1080p
[after install win7u , I replace the dvd-drive to a hdd]
CLEVO - Products
=====================
above is my notebook
这种机器在中国也非常受欢迎,in China , CLEVO system is very hot and cheaper than DELL AW series
when I play MAFIA2 , the amazing PhysX effect of water , is very impressive.
but players of china often choose cheaper AMD 5870m , and I spend more for nVIDIA ,
now the 485m P150HM is coming , 470m player just overclock to get more power,
and when ivy bridge platform come , we should buy a new type (28nm GPU).
the 485m is 100w , and the p150hm's power is 180w - 200w .
My machine is 150w power , this limit to upgrade a new 485m in q3-2011 .
because I use 470m , so I have confidence NOT to change the power to 200w and NOT to change 470m to 485m. -
how much are the prices in china? for w870cu

840qm(retail.not es or qs) + 6g ram + 500gb seagate hybrid hdd + gtx 460m + 1080p + warranty 1year
===============================
cny 12500 = usd 1894
===============================
if the ram up to 8g and the cpu up to 920xm(retail),
and hdd change to seagate 750gb(momentus)
the price is 2106$ -
Could you point me to the website? Thanks!
-
It seems that there are a lot of benchmark threads spread around the forum.
Wouldn't be better to have them more organized with a sticky index thread? -
hi another question can you please point to the chinese website plz where i can configure it?
i am looking for clevo p170hm with i7 2820qm+gtx 470m+ everything as default
also does the computer malls in china sell clevo? i will be going to hong kong and guangzhou soon plz inform about it -
this card is very good in temperature control
powerful and cheaper , better than 480m
in mafia2 1080p with 0AA , 2AF , low shader , physx + 环境光遮蔽 = medium ,
470m get a 45-50 fps , tested by FRAPS , sometimes it can run to 50+ fps .
in need for speed SHIFT with 2AA and a medium to high configure ,
470m get a 50+ fps result .
satisfied and I'll use this card till the 485m is cheaper than 3000CNY(450$).
now in China a 485m card is 6000CNY+(about 850$+) .
too expensive and some SnB platform P150HM user meet a RECALL accident !
very sadly!
