    Absolutely not, the GTX 485M in both 8170 & 8150 has the 6-31-X510N-302 heatsink for the die part and the 6-31-X510N-502 heatsink for the VRAM part.

    @pkhetan: sorry let me rephrase again. the price of uprading to the 485m dropped by 200 dollars. i have no idea about what happened to the cost of the chips alone

    No, it's the total price of the notebook with 485M which dropped by $200. You can't talk about a drop in "the price of upgrading to 485M" because each upgrading uses different base;
    before, 460M --> 485M = $500
    now, 560M --> 485M = $300

    As a person who has some business in the video cards market (these of Clevo), I was confused about the new 485M price announced by the rebranders/resellers and wondering how could it happen to drop by $200 it's just two far from the market, unless that the rebranders/resellers get their cards from another source than Clevo, because for your information, Clevo never change the price of their cards, it's the reseller who decrease their profit margin over the time to get red of the old stock and to go forward to the new items.

    When did 6970M came out after its drivers appeard on Clevo's website? So while p170hm/p150hm has it listed, x7200 hasn't. Do you comsider this as no CF option in the future?

    So no word on having the 580 work with 120Hz screens and 3d? Xotic and Malibal both only allow 120Hz with 485M.

    According to nVidia's website, 3D vision *IS* supported, and Clevo is listed as the only maker which supports it; their P170HM and P270WM models are listed. Alienware is also listed as supporting the 580M, but not for 3D screens.

    Once a certified driver package is released by Nvidia for the 580M that supports 3D, we should be good to go... :)

    Sager has noted that it has not been validated yet for 3D, but it does support it.

    edit: ninja'd! Better though coming from the resellers.

    Hi I am kinda new with tech specks but is the 580m even faster? Notebook check says that the 6970m=960@680MHz while the 580m=768@620MHz. 580m has better shader and memory speed thoe. So would the 6970m's be faster in some games? Because I want to have as people have been saying "the bleeding edge". Sure the 580m's are expensive but this is going to be my everything computer and I want it to play todays heavy games no problem. Sure the 580m's might only give a extra 5-10fps but in some cases that can change a game from lagging to playable. So basically what I am asking is the 580m sli going to be faster then the 6970m crossfire 95% of the time? Thanks!

    You can't directly compare architectures because a NVIDIA shader is not an AMD shader and so on and so forth. 580M also has higher transistor count.

    As far as SLI, I'd say its faster than 6970m xfire 99% of the time. However, its going to be 700 bucks more. If 6990m comes, that picture will change.

    97 degrees after two minutes of furmark is a bit alarming. Most likely this is just a bad paste job, unless the 485m also reaches these scorching temps.

    I want to check it out too, wondering if there will be CF option available? If 6970M can be OC to gain +20% performance boost that's probably equal to 6990M +10% OC. Not bad, ha? Also we don't know for sure how the latter card handles high clocks and what temps it can get...

    485m idle 0.85v load 1.00v

    It's too early to talk about voltages and OC'ing potential, IMHO. Maybe Nvidia lowered voltage simply to cope with the extra heat. The temps are alarming but I think it's because of a bad paste job, improper HS alignment or fan problem. The room temp is very low, BTW. My apartment is 10c higher and the same test would hit past 100C and result in throttling.

    There would be no point to flash its bios to 485m as 580m has lower voltage.

    Nvidia's confidence in raising the core clock by 75Mhz over the older 485m should be some indication of the improved efficiency of the new(?) core. Hopefully the resellers will have some test results of their own to help compare in the near term.

    Yeah, man. You'd better wait for the more accurate results from the resellers and pull the trigger afterwards :) That was probably something wrong with the early reviewing unit, so don't get too confused. I'm sure, 580M is a pretty card, especially after it passes 3D Vision driver verification!

    I think 580m overclocking would reach quite a higher level than 485m on x7200 and m17xR3.

    There should be some good overclockingpotential on this card. Think if you could up the voltage to 1.03 like the 485M can with nibitor. That would 0.16(!) more than stock voltage.
