Yep definatly, Iv seen roadmaps predicting octa core DT with LGA 1536 i think, so yet another socket change!
But with the cie shrink to 22nm from sandy bridge it will go like the clappers![]()

hummm...bug check 9c has to do with memory
try that cpu test again..but boot to dos and just let it sit for a bit.
get some dos based cpu testing software and run test that way....
and grab another hard drive and try to install windows...see what happens...
dont let that first bsod stop you. time to make history and be a pioneer...lol -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Cool, Maybe i booted in AHCI instead of IDE...?
Iv got 3x different copies of XP here and a 3rd HDD in the beast so i can install XP on that while keeping my Win7 primary install on the 2x other HDD's RAID'd? -
hey, that might be exactly what happened...try ide mode
and only try one drive first...and if you get it working...then you can get back to being fancy later...
also...reset the bios after you install the cpu...since both chips may use different types of memory space... -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Id be happy to get a decent 3DM01 on my DT first >.<
56000 with 2x 280's + 260 and a 4.5GHzOC lol,
Busy installing XP x86 -
01 is a tricky one....older hardware is scoring better than newer...
and dual core cpus are killing everyone while running at 5.5 to 6.5 ghz -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Hmm...
Well we'll see how i get on with XPx86 I nLite'd down to ~220MB
I NEED my SS now haha, OCing is freaking addictive >.<
My Ultras should score well then if older HW is doing the job -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Going for it now
Wish me luck guys -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
good luck, that will be a screaming laptop
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Shame
Every time i try to install XP, either with a 980-X or my 920-C0 i get this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CrOdnbtpEs
Someone please help this BSOD makes no sense as XP wont install with either CPU and it always BSODs at the "Windows is Starting" bit -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Since you took the battery out/ swapped the CPU did you:
A> Make sure you have your BIOS set to IDE mode
OR
B> Make sure you have the most recent AHCI drivers slipstreamed into your XP ISO?
Just to be safe, even with the AHCI drivers assumed included, it wouldn't hurt to switch back to IDE/compatibility mode and see if it will install. -
I believe that error code relates to the HDs not being found, more then likely because you have two in Raid that windows XP can't see so its throwing a fit, did you slipstream the sata drivers with the install? F6 jobby.
*Edit* Beat to it lol. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
The laptop will only go to AHCI/RAID no IDE, i DID manage to boot into Hirens TinyXP and run CPU-Z but it only supports 1 thread:
When i try to install Win7/Vista it gets the whole way through then it starts to configure and just shuts down but will not finish the installation
I give up -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
send clevo an email. tell them you are trying this new cpu and they should support it
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
They would do anything...
While im at it ill pester them for OCing lol
I dont think anything would come of it... -
Try linux, it won't BSOD
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Lol nahh the CPU just straight ejects through the keyboard
-
lazy bones.
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
4 1/2 hours of failed attempts = no motivation lol

-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Believe me dude, RAM is not a problem, i got past the whole XP thing by installing vista it just doesnt work, i justt its a config issue with the Clevo mobo, only they can fix that
-
how far did vista get before it crashed?
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
It finished installing and then restarted then went to the "Now configuring windows" one the loading thing came up that is the final screen before you boot into windows it restarted and then when it booted it says press okay to restart and re-install windows, and does that all the time
-
did you take the cd out as well?
and this time, before getting there...boot it into safe mode.
some of these suspect installs can be circumvented, but some times takes as many as 10 reboots beofre it works...something do do with driver/memory placement -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Aye CD was out too :/
Im on my laptop ATM got the 920 back in it (975 is in my bros DT)
I didnt try safe mode i just gave up >.< -
damn, wish i would have seen your thread sooner...
im always full of ideas, but no machine to test them...lol
and i think your cpu will work and that your almost there. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
If your 100% sure ill try it tomorrow
-
yeah, im not 100 percent sure..lol
but it cant hurt and has helped me many times in the past to get by certain drivers corrupting the system....just hopping it's not the cpu drivers..
the things we go through to be first in class... -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
haha i know what you mean dude >.<
Ill try it tomorrow when i have time -
sounds good
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Okay so tried again with 3x different Vistas, Safe mode and non-safe mode, tried with 2x different windows 7's but it just BSOD'd on install see below for details:
I can conclude this laptop does NOT support the i7-980-X -
well...damn....at least you gave it your all.
-
C'mon stop trying to hit it and just hit it!
So no linux attempts yet?.... -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Nahh no linux attempts dude, there wont be either, the screws holding down my apogee XT have no threads left so i have to send the block back and get a new one cause i took it off one to many time ( cheap screws!) a block that expensive shouldnt have problems like this
/rant -
same thing happen to me, so i used the bottom part off my dice block. now it works like a charm...wish i could find just those screws though.
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
No threads left at all, tried nuts but the thread in the retaining screws are gone too >.>
Grr at swiftech, made a big angry email so hopefully thatll go somewhere, im never WCing again
EDIT:
Just got what you meant, My screws are stripped too as well as the bracket,
Fail by swiftech there... -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Yeah, the fact the D900F works fine with a 920, the 980 works fine in your desktop rig and a simple CPU swap sends it into fits shows an underlining issue with full BIOS compliance.
Go picket Clevo. -
actually the bracket isn't stripped, but them screws are...what i used as a temp fix was teffilon tape. wrapped it around the threads then screwed it in.
the screws they used are pretty cheap, but let you know that your over tightening.
but i wasn't feeling comfortable with that, so i did the other route. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Oh really?
Ah okay, i made sure not to overtighten, i just did it so that the top of the thread was sitting flush with the top of the mobo like it should be?
Do you know what screws they use?
Or do you recon teflon would do? -
the teflon was a temp solution, because i wanted to bench. and i had bought another base plate, but that's when i found out that that wasnt the problem.
they're setup is suppose to be designed to stop before stripping, but....EPIC FAIL -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Lol, exactly right dude, thinking i might just use some nice blots from the shed and forget the springs, and just use washers
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
I am now selling this laptop,
Bought way over my needs and as my interest has moved to LN2 + Desktop components i would like the cash to inject there,
It is a great laptop for those without desktops but sadly is just not for me,
I plan to downgrade to a 15.4" laptop, most likely an Alienware M15x just to use @ uni etc maybe some light gaming (minesweeper @ 3000fps FTW! lol)
Any advice etc is greatly apprecciated
(Aikimox i know you love your alienwares, any advice?)
Cheers for reading the thread guys -
rotflmao!!
not laughing at you but with you!!!
exactly why i sold my last laptop (d901c) and havent gotten another one (though seriously temping!) way to many ways to go with desktop over clocking. (parts wise) here you have i cpu and one set of gpus....
haven't graduated to ln2 yet... just getting started on ss and dice. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Aye the draws of Desktop hardware overclocking are seriously hard to resist
I needa save up to buy my EVGA W555 mobo + Fermi
My bros SS is arriving next week so that should be good fun, just waiting on delivery of my 50L LN2 dewar -
nice!!
what kind of SS? -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Little Devil over at XS,
Bloody expensive but best of the best
Whats your dude? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The M15x is nice but you may find the W860 or W870 are better options, is all up to taste really as both offer good setups and prices right now
The Asus G73 is also pretty popular atm -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Cool man
How much is a decent spec one second hand?
i.e. Q820 + GTX260 -
Been following this thread for quite a while...
Thanks Mutant_Tractor for giving the 980 your best shot. Hopefully Clevo will come out with a BIOS upgrade to support this. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Hi man
Sorry it took me so long to get it done properly, needed to bench it with the desktop (So far 5.3GHz on Water - Hopfully will get it to 6.5GHz on LN2 )
Thanks for the support guys but like i say, its now for sale... see my sig
