^^ thanks...Good info. Guess I'll try the stock screen and see if I can live with it for a few weeks/month.

Just wanted to mention that I've spoken to Lee (barlow00) from kuzotronics.com and thumper-- both members of this forum-- about purchasing a V4 screen, and they are both stand-up guys with very attentive service. I'd highly recommend supporting these NBR members over purchasing screens from random sellers on eBay and whatnot!

This company lists a quantity of 31 V.4 left. A ton of people in the Dell Studio XPS 17 forum have bought from them, successfully.

I fact, Their thread on screen swapping is a must read, as it's full of other high-quality screen options, color profiles, and buying/installation advice.

Oh, so that's thumper's site? Anyway, I did inquiry with them, they didn't answer.. and like I was saying in the last page of that must read thread you mention, there's no way to buy the screen normally.. I don't know how others have done.. supposedly they were able to do it after their inquiry was answered. Don't know. Maybe if somebody that bought from there can tell how they've done it..

No, I Thumper is an independent, who will buy in bulk from the yslcd site, and sells them on the forum, and I think he may be affiliated with Kuzotronc.

I just looked at YSLCD.com's inventory list, and it still shows that there are 31 V.4s in stock, and even more V.0s. Try sending another email, or find a number you can call directly.

Does Thumper have his own site like Barlow has his Kuzotronic site?
And by the way, I don't think they're affiliated.

Do NOT buy the screen off of amazon from east coast LCD's that Kevin Jack links to above. They sent me a LG screen. Sucks to be me....

    What's the Hardware ID?

Have you contacted them to file a complaint? Nothing in the listing says they'll be shipping anything else. That's just wrong.

    How is the quality, though?

I agree with you, nothing in their listing says that they would send anything else besides the screen that was listed. That is going to be part of my complaint I'm sure I'll have to file through Amazon. I've tried calling them and e-mailing them but they're not responding.

When I saw it was the same LG screen I already own, I packaged it up and put it back in the box. I never plugged it in, not worth tearing my laptop apart to test. Funny thing is they put a "compatible" sticker over where it lists the model number so it was hard to make out. But I could still make out the (TL)(C1) at the end of the name so I'm pretty sure it's the LP173WF1-TLC1. Does LG even have any quality 17.3 displays?

They sent the LP173WF1-TLC1? Now that is straight up insulting.

The good LG models are the Matte LGD0283 (I can't find a seller), while the best is probably the LG MGNC7 173WF1 (LGD 02DA), which is in the M17X R3.

You might as well contact Mythlogic, to see if they'll sell you a screen.

I contacted them, Mythlogic are only selling the V.4's with their laptops since they have such a small supply of them. I ended up getting one from Thumper that has a grey stuck pixel. It was pretty cheap and at least I know what I'm getting ahead of time.

Here's another 2 cents. I'm swapping the stock Clevo\Sager panel from a Sager np8150 for the 15.6" version (AOU B156HW01 V.4) of the panel featured in this thread. (same specs smaller size)
I just sent a Lenovo w520 back. The only thing of any real note was the spectacular LCD panel the rest was disapointing. However this AUO Panel is the one spec'd for the Lenovo and is listed as the fru for this notebook. The possibility of swapping out panels on another notebook was final nail in the Lenovo coffin. For this reason, I just returned the Lenovo w520 that uses this panel.

I only made my move on the Clevo\Sager once I secured the replacement AOU panel for the np8150.

These are the guys that kept telling me I would not be able to tell the diff.
LAPTOP SCREEN, LCD panels from $42. Dell, HP Compaq, Toshiba, Acer, IBM Lenovo, Sony, Gateway, Apple, Asus replacement screen display panel
Don't know where they are based.

LCDs4less might have them but you need to ask them specifically if they have the screen in stock. Their web sales portal is not acurate on "in stock" items. I do know however they are based in Texas

All I can say WOW. If you have the opportunity to take the V.4, do it. The screen is breathtakingly clear.

Agreed, just installed the V.4 myself this afternoon. It was pretty easy to install yourself as others have mentioned.

Such a huge difference in viewing angles/quality. Very happy with my purchase. Do you have any suggestions for color profiles to tone down the reds a bit? I remember you mentioning you found some in the Dell forums or something.

Eh, all of the profiles I've tried were... well, I'll let you decide for yourself. Every screen is different.

    Uploaded them all here.

Before you can use the Profile Chooser, Start Menu -> search Color Management -> manually add each Profile. Then you can use the Chosser to switch between each profile automatically.

To reboot to the screen's default profile, either Log Off, or under Color Management, just hit Advanced -> Calibrate Display.

I've decided to go with the default V.4 profile. I figured out how to remove most of the red tint I had. Open AMD's CCC -> My Built-In Displays -> Display Color -> raise Color Temperature Control from 6500k to about 6700k or more. If you go too far, it'll take a blue tint.

uhhh....yeah...those profiles are interesting(bad). In the Nvidia control panel moving the digital vibrance down a bit and the hue up a bit tamed the reds for me.

Bought and installed an AUO B173HW01 V.5 off of eBay from screenintaipei. I highly recommend them as they:

    Guarantee no dead pixels
Shipping took about a week from Taiwan to East coast U.S.
And the shipping package was very professional and protective of the LCD.

Also as a bonus, they took pictures of the LCD plugged in to show it was working and of the box with my shipping info on it before they shipped it out. Didn't even ask for it which was a huge plus in my book.

Highly recommend this screen over the stock glossy, colour and angles are much better, and no annoying reflections when you're next to windows/bright lights.

If I can post links, if not moderator please remove:

EDIT: In case anyone was unsure, V.5 is a 'matte' display.

Thanks for the link! I am strongly considering changing my display. How are the vertical viewing angles? Can you stand up and sit down without having to touch the screen to get a good image?

Even though I prefer matte, I'm looking at the v.4 because it seems to get awesome overall picture and viewing angles.

Think there is any market to sell the default panel?

Standing up and down, there is a slight shift in the colours, but no where near as bad as my stock screen was. I can still easily read text on the screen when I stand up, but not as good as the side-to-side angles due the the polarisation.

There is also a little colour change changing posisitons side-to-side, but it was a big improvement over the stock that I where I was barley able to see the image on the screen. Reading text side-to-side are even better than the vertical angles.

Also the screen has zero noticeable backlight bleed, and on black backgrounds looks evenly black. My stock had very noticeable backlight bleed on the bottom-third of the screen.

I don't think you could go wrong with either screen personally, I simply chose matte because my old HP laptop was glossy and it was extremely annoying, whereas my old desktop had a 28'' matte screen and a pleasure to work on, even around windows/lights. Ultimately chose matte because of the 17.3'' screen size on the P170HM, and didn't want to risk having reflections/colour alterations anywhere on the screen due to its size.

EDIT: I haven't a clue on selling the stock screen, but I'd image if you put it on eBay someone may buy it. If you immediately changed your screen like I did when I received my laptop you could also potentially sell it as new/mint - hardly used.

Oh yeah, Backlight bleed. As Windows booted for the first time I was hoping to see as little as possible.

Blacks are an even black, and there's zero bleed around the four edges. But I do know that Quadzilla reported a little bit of bleed on the lower quadrant.

I rally do feel like I got the perfect screen.

RE: the default screen... I dunno. It won't hurt to just eBay it and forget about it, until a buyer pops up. Someone who is desperate enough will buy, eventually.

The 5170 stock display has a very cool color temperature that I have been unable to adjust out properly. Too much blue tint. Are these replacement displays more accurate with color?

    Um, wow.

Even after seeing the screens, I didn't think the stock screen would bother me that much but coming from the great dispay on my Sager 9260, I was very dissapointed.

Replacing it with the above was easy for anyone who has ever done any kind of laptop upgrades (memory or HD). It is a dramatic diference wihout that crummy bleed.

The above company shipped it out quickly and if not for FedEx mis-delivering, I would have had it installed two days earlier!

Personally i prefer the higher contrast (1000:1) CMO N173HGE-L21 rev C01, which also had 290cd/m² brightness!

The AUO screens V4 and V5 have good color gamut but contrat around 600:1. Not good enough for me.

It is the glare screen for the new Asus G74 and has received rave reviews. The 3D screen in the Asus G74 is the same as the Dell XPS 3d's (LGD02C5). It is brighter but contrast is around 700:1 so useless

Can you link me to a review of that screen?

edit: nvm I found something. It seems to have worse viewing angles than the AUO. Contrast is nice, but isn't everything.

Okay i have researched a lot around the internet cause i just got my Clevo P170HM, and the standard LG monitor is really awful.

Looks like after a lot of research that my choice of panel is gonna be either:

1: AUO B173HW01 v.4 (this is a pretty old screen????)
    2: CMO1720 / N173HGE-L21 (this is a 2011 panel)

Both screens has view angles: 70/70/60/60
Both screens has 8 ms response time
Both screens has around 300 brightness
Both screens has 1920x1080P resolution and 17,3" inch size
As far as i know the contrast ratings are pretty much close aswell

The CMO1720 is in the new MSI GT780R laptop, and Notebookcheck talks of it like its an insanely good panel.

When all comes to all, which of these 2 panels is the best? which one comes out on top? and why?
