Wow, 70 new posts in one night.
Okay, if your harddrive has an error on it, the system will hang and usually blue screen when the drive tries to access a file on that sector of the harddrive. Generally 90% of the time corrupt sectors on the harddrive are not repairable. If your drive does have errors, that could be a point where your problem is generating from.
What someone mentioned about the memory is also worthwhile.
Unplug all of the memory cards, and than only install one of them.
If one memory card is defective, your system will either fail to boot, or freeze during the boot process. Only install one memory card, so that you can narrow down the problematic component easier.

i am currently tring to remove everything from the my laptop, where are the optical drives ?
-
k-tron are you talking about my ram ?
-
yes, memory and ram are the same thing
In order to remove the optical drives, you need to remove the plastic panel for the harddrives
On the top left corner of the harddrive bay you will see a long silver screw. You need to remove that.
That will allow you to slide the optical drives out.
You may need to push the drives out with your finger in order to remove them

im currently trying to remove my heatsink, how do i get these screws off ?...their pretty difficult.
im also wondering if i need to remove the dvd rom... -

Be careful with the screws, don’t strip them.
Use a screwdriver with a bigger handle to give you more torque. -
I thought you got the Service Manual... follow that to remove the parts piece by piece.
-
im contemplating sending my lappy to get repaired...and recommendations Gophn ?
-
You can send it to K-Tron... LOL.
hmm... he might actually do it for you since he has many many spare parts for that notebook.
but if you want an official Clevo repair center to do it, look here.
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/about/worlds_s.asp
look at the US Service Center. -
just completed a chkdsk and this is what it said...
-
so K-Tron how much will you charge to fix my lappy?
-
so your HDD seems to be in okay shape.
you should see if the OS is better, if not, the OS will need to be re-installed... due to possible file corruptions from the HDD errors. -
im installing vista right now, but it took me a while to get to that process. i still have to control alt delete to get things up and running, its driving me crazy. and still dealing with some lockup issues at times.
-
when you say you have to CTRL+ALT+DEL... do you mean you have to keep resetting the computer?
If yes, then I highly recommend to not due that.... because that would just cause more HDD errors if something is being accessed/written on the HDD when you abruptly reset the system... causing lost/orphan files. -
yeah , thats what i ment...i have to keep restarting it cause it locks up at random times and when i do restart it my back light led doesnt light up so i have to press ctrl alt del sometimes.,
what would you recommend I do if it does this again (locks up randomlly) -
are you sure it locks up? (if the HDD light is blinking... its not locked up)
-
the HDD light stops blinking,.... it just stop on me right
-
make sure your RAM is good.
go get MemTest86+, extract it, and burn the ISO image file onto a blank CD.
let the CD auto boot and it will test your Memory.
... if all goes well, there should be no RED errors that will get logged on the bottom for the first run (this test will run infinitely until you hit ESC) -
ok, ill try that
-
im using nero, should i make a data disc ?
-
no, not data disc.
Nero should have an option that says Burn from Disc Image. -
You can load memtest86 from a floppy disk, It is a very small file.
I dont know what kind of time I am going to have in the future, I am very busy right now.
I am in New York, so if you feel like sending it to me to take a look at, than I will
K-TRON -
so after i installed vista it lockup on me and since then i havent been able to bring it back to life, no back light on my LED when. i hit ctrl alt del and i get nothing, so i cant even attempt to do the memtest.
-
take out the battery, unplug the notebook, then try again.
also, did you remove all of the unnecessary components in the system?
only have:
- CPU
- one stick of RAM
- Videocard
- one Hard Drive
- one Optical Drive
remove the rest:
- Wifi card
- TV Tuner Card
- other HDDs
- other Optical Drives -
yep, i removed those things and i still had that same issues im having now.

Did you try taking out the battery and power cord, then holding the power button for 30secs. Then try to turn it on again?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Sounds like a CPU problem to me.
-
yeah, i tried that the first time you told me about it, i was still having similiar issues afterwards, now that I installed vista it just wont do anything. ill have to try that again, but im at work right now so i'll have to try again when i get home
-
-
do you have any LGA775 CPUs (pre-Core 2) to test with or borrow.
I actually have one or two of the old Celeron LGA775 sitting around somewhere. -
no i dont have any extra cpus to test with
-
but it could also be the videocard... but if you do not see artifacts and the screen comes up fine... its probably not that. -
i dont know how to re seat my cpu either .

Do you hear any beeps when you try to turn it on?
What do the lights do. -
after i reset my bios, i heard a beep. now i not getting anything when i try to turn on my laptop. the only lights i get are the num and caps lock lights when i press them and if i leave them on shortly afterwards they go out to
-
make sure your videocard module is securely in... it might have gotten loose if the standoff's are not securely on the motherboard connectors.
take out the videocard, look at the 4 standoffs and the 4 screws.
then secure down the videocard again. -
ok I'll try that
-
The problem sounds like a chipset failure, moreover than a processor problem. Generally a processor (CPU) is never the problem.
In rank of the problem, I think it is the memory, than a chipset failure, and than a harddrive issue.
All can be tested, but you kinda need another system to test the parts in.
Have you tried booting without the CD Drives installed?
I have had problems when the system would refuse to boot when the lower optical drive was installed. Removing both seemed to do the trick.
K-TRON -
I'll try that as well K-Tron.
-
I secured down my video card again and i tried to boot without my cd drives and im still not getting anything. i also rechecked the plugs for my led and securely replug it. im not getting anything. it seems like right after i install a OS my laptop doesnt want to boot.
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
take out both HDD and the DVD drive, then try to boot into the BIOS.
-
thats not working either. i had just tried booting up without the HDD w/the cd drive still in and it booted until i got into bios then it locked
-
i put my cd drive back in w/o the HDD, and i was able to get into bios, but it locked up again
-
could my cd rom drive be the cause for some issues? because i took it out and then put it back in and it booted up, systems still acting a little shacky though.
-
i also need to know how to put my OS on my new seagate HDD, cause when it booted up i had that HDD in and it said no OS was found.
-
ok this is what i did i turn my laptop on, got nothing, while laptop was on i popped out my cd drive, then snapped it back in.... i saw my HDD light flash for a second, then i press ctrl alt del, and it started to boot, i got all the way past the little green lines going across the screen for vista and after that it locked with my mouse pointer at the center of a black screen.....my old HDD was in also.
-
Its seizing up right as windows loads, I suspect its purely a memory problem.
I just bought some ECC memory for my server on ebay, and the corrupt memory sticks cause the system to freeze just as windows starts to load.

all four sticks of RAM having errors at the same time is very rare.
I would leave only one stick of RAM in the system and see if it will boot.
- switch sticks to see if one stick will work long enough to do a memory test. -
I have two memory cards I can send to you, which are known working. Than you can further diagnose your problem from there.
If not, I think it may be time for you to send your laptop to me.
I have a spare processor, heatsink, memory, keyboard, wireless, touchpad,cd drive, and cd bracket for your system.
I do not have a spare motherboard, but I do have the tools needed to test what you have.
As for now, I would only charge you shipping. Than what I find which needs to be replaced, you can either buy from me, or I can simply send it back to you, so you can get the parts needed for replacement.
I believe it will fit in a USPS flat rate box, so it would cost $11, or $11.50 which ever it is.
Let me know. I will be busy up until this coming monday. so I will have time next week to take it apart and see what the problem is.
