I'm really interested in this mod too!
Yesterday I gave a look at the whole thread and I think one more thing must be pointed out too, as It seems to me nobody talked about this.
The 4 screws cpu cooler for the etu board (and the latest 3 screws one found in the 570ru with the x9100) is "taller"
you can clearly see it here:
Original heatsink
Extreme version heatsink
Given this difference if you don't have already a 570ru extreme you also need the extreme edition back cover plate:
Normal cover
Extreme cover
Or you won't be able to close the lower part of the laptop!
All this pictures are taken from notebookjournal.de and notebookcheck.net
This consideration can be useful fo who begins the mod with a "simple" 570ru (like me) and not with an extreme m570ru.
For Oile: I'm from Italy too, isn't it funny that two of us who are interested in this "extreme makeover" are from Italy? ;-)
-
That is correct. You will need the M570RU "Extreme Edition" to be able to do this mod.
-
mmm...never thought it !
So there are also two totally different heatsink from RU to RU-U !!
I have to give a deeper look at it!
I have the RU and not the "extreme edition"...so I could have to order back plate..
Cookie, do you have the "extreme" ? -
Yes, I do have the Extreme Edition...So it should be okay
-
Interesting link I found around the web with all the things I said in my previous post (with great pictures to explain)

OT: does anybody know wich hardware revision is required fot 8800 gtx card and 9600 series? -
Cookie any news ??
I am studying too hard -
The package from Kobalt has now been shipped. I hope it will arrive sometime next week. I have the CPU, RAM and new S-ATA DVD-drive ready.

Godspeed, Cookie.

Alright, the mod is now complete
But there is one tiny problem...
I am missing a screw for the CPU heatsink. The new one didn't ship with any screws at all, which I didn't really expect. So I had to use the 3 old screws from the old heatsink. However, the new heatsink requires 4 screws, but as I said, I only have 3...Problem.
I tried firing up the PC, it went okay. But by the time I got to the Windows logon screen, the CPU fan was probably spinning at max, and the heatsink was pretty hot.
So either I'll have to wait two whole weeks just for one little screw, or I need to find some quick fix solutions...Help me out guys? -
What I once did when I broke one of the CPU fan hinges on a desktop was the replace broken hinge system with a rope. The system has operated like this for many years - surprisingly.
See if you can be inventive in that way...
But I strongly recommend you use screws. -
I'll put a picture if it's not clear enough. -
You might want to look into other sections of the laptop where small screws are available but aren't as pertinent.
-
Yea, I took a screw from the component bay cover. It fits right into the heatsink. Also I found a small piece of metal I had lying around to use as a shimmer.
Now I just need to figure out a way to fasten the screw with the right amount of pressure, so that the heatsink puts equal pressure on the core, as rcboyit mentioned. -
try to keep it parallel to the mainboard surface and check the other 3 springs.
if you tighten too much they will compress more and you can clearly see it. -
Okay, I will try that, thank you
I'll let you know how it goes.
-
Hmm, I don't get this...the CPU fan spins up almost to the max before it reaches Windows logon screen. And also the heatsink get's very hot....that must mean that the heatsink is in contact with the CPU??? But why does it get so hot???
-
Have you ever experienced with a CPU going pass it's thermal threshold? I did and the system just automatically shutted down, there was no damage to the CPU.
I would suggest, you go pass the log-on screen and have a look at the temps with HWMonitor. Then decide what to do next, but it is obvious that one way or another, you need that extra screw. -
Well I tried running Windows in safemode and tried starting HWmonitor there, but it wouldn't give me anything else than HDD-temp.
I think I can manage it without the extra screw (hopefully), I just need some way to find juuust the right amount of tension to apply to it. -
Okay I think I finally found the right tension for the screw. I am now running 3 cores on 100% load, and the temps are about 70-75 degrees...seems a bit hot? Or is it okay you think?

This is why you don't mod an M570RU to an M570ETU
It's normally less costly and easier to sell the old and add some funds to buy the new.
But you're still a pioneer. I just hope the natives don't scalp you, John Smith. -
I did some calculation on that...
All the components cost me total of $900 incl shipping.
If I were to sell my old M570RU, I would have gotten maybe $1000 for it. If I were to buy a new M570ETU (with QX9300) it would have cost me $2300.
That's $400 saved on doing this operation.
Now, if I can just figure out how to get this damn wireless card working again... -
You just buy a barebone or buy it with a P8600 and sell it and get a QX9300 on eBay, you come out winning.
Say hi to Pocahontas for me -
A NP5797 with a P8600 would have cost me around $1800 from Xotic + Shipping which probably is $50.
So I would have saved a total of $50 bucks...
Meh, the experience was worth it
And Pocahontas says Hi back -
any way of telling if your M570TU is the E model , i bought it about a year ago with P9500 cpu , but i sure when i bought quad core was an upgrade option but mega expensive so only got dual core , by the way undervolting cpu works great from 1.125 to 1v heaps quieter and tempsa drop about 20 degrees C , will be checking my bios version tonight and upgrading bios , did not know there was bios updates available until i read forums here, running W7 64 no problems, has been great notebook no probles at all , just use latest drivers.
