3070 is currently not in our warehouse, sold out, but we can order from the supplier, but it will take longer. Price excluding delivery to you $ 1800

Just an update on power consumption, this has jumped massively lol, the card was drawing around 150-160w before the furmark and benchmark tests and now it draws in between 230-250w!!

I also notice the vapour chamber actually getting soaked with heat quicker. Temps get to the low to mid 80s after the fans ramp up compared to the cool 65c it averaged before. Time for some liquid metal instead of thermal paste I guess. Well worth it for the extra performance in my eyes, the X170KM is actually a DTR now :D

Does your 3080 mobile now perform better than a desktop 3070 as a result?

Your temps confirm my suspicions that the X170's cooling system could handle a full desktop RTX 3080. Just undervolt it and it's all good.

I’d say it’s on par or ever so slightly slower, 1-5% (1-3fps) in between them compared to the 10-15% there was before..

You gotta understand that with the 3070 overclocked it would ruin even this laptop 3080. I’m just glad I could eek out a bit more performance :)

I was however expecting a bit more from the gpu, I have ordered R004 resistors for it. Will see when I solder those on if the performance is better…

The x170 certainly could, remembering that the 3080 has a larger die which helps with heat. Would get cramped on the PCB still.

You mean run it as castrated 3080 desktop card. Remember there is a difference between the 230-250W mod and real 320 W. And don't forget that the GDDR6X run damn hot as well.
And GDDR6 run a lot colder. Add in the X moniker on the vram and it will need more cooling. Half of the memory chips would be baked below the MXM and the MB.

Yep, Nvidia could cap vram down to 10GB. But 250w and the hotter running GDDR6X would need a new and much better heatsink. Bro @DaMafiaGamer say the mod 3080 already run at 85C with 230-250W. Add 10GB GDDR6X vram and put it baked between the MXM module and MB without proper cooling would mean a real heat disaster even with sub 200w cards :D

Like I said, a bigger die would help cooling. Typically that along with a nice vapor chamber could cope.

@ViktorV how much are those custom fans for the X170KM-G in £ and how quickly would I get them if I placed the order this week. My CPU temps cannot be controlled with stock fans, even at max fan speed the CPU throttles on full load after a while (cinebench), will need that 60% airflow gain you mentioned from the custom fans.

Look forward to hearing from you brother :)

Hey! A custom fan kit for the X170kmg costs £ 155 with a 1.5 month delivery time. But I think it would be more efficient to use a custom radiator with a liquid cooling system, it will give 100% effect.

Being able to hook up the X170 to a water chiller sounds fun. The only problem is that you'd need to drain it when you want to take it somewhere with you.

@ViktorV I’ll let you know in a weeks time if I want to go ahead with the fans, price seems reasonable. Thank you bro.

There is another option for custom fans for x170kmg, they have higher airflow efficiency, but at the expense of noise, if noise is not a problem for you, then such fans can be made.

How loud are we talking? Like P870TM levels? If so I think that’s too much lol, I don’t want a vacuum cleaner in my room :D

Will the quieter fans at max speed bring the temps down better than the stock fans? I will need to shave at least 5-10c from the cpu side.

In terms of noise, they are slightly noisier than standard ones, but if you need silence, then the first option will suit you.

Man, where were all these new mods and ability to easily buy newer GPUs/stuff when I had P870DM/P870DM3 :D

He's referring to my RTX 3000 in M18xR2. Check third post:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-hopeful-of-keeping-mxm-3-0b-alive-thread.795048/page-320

It's nice upgrading an 9 year old machine originally with 680m SLI to RTX 3000 (GeForce RTX 2060 basically).

Your laptop has 3 NVMe slots right? Any reason you wanted that NVMe MXM adapter?

All except that RTX 3000 I would consider standard mxm 3.0b.

This is the RTX 3000 I installed. Plug n Play with heatsink and proper core placement.

If you can get A4000 mxm Q1 2022 when released let me know. ;)

Great, that nails it down. the Russian Federation, is a country spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. It is the largest country in the world by area, covering over 17 million square kilometres (6.6×106 sq mi), and encompassing more than one-eighth of Earth's inhabited land area.
