Its a great machine but i can't deal with the edge to edge to much i hope the new one will have a matte screen.
-
I know it's hopeless, but still wish the new Clevo's had the IPS or at least RGB LED matte screens for those who need their system for work and not just gaming in a dark room.
That plus the metal case would make me join the club, hands down. -
Yeah, Clevo tends to focus heavily on the internals, which is a positive, but they need to adopt some of the more modern aesthetics, like RGB LED and metal stylings.
-
Yes i totally agree they need to, if they had a blacklit keyboard, a decent metal chasis, and a matte IPS panel. It just is that your paying over 2,000 for plastic freaking plastic i find it unfair and that's why i never bought one.
-
Since the competition becomes very intense, Clevo has no choice but to include those. Also, the info from AW is that they are testing the anti glare type of screens for the next iterations, so it's only a matter of time.
There was a poll on AW forums and 75%+ agreed that there should be such an option. 40% would even pay extra for it. Dell is well aware of that. Another poll was regarding the "metal vs plastic" and 90%+ agreed on metal even though it's heavier in most cases.
I hope Clevo does the homework.
Most people don't mind the size or weight (in fact, I'm bringing my 6kg beast to and fro work every day, walking about 30min each direction) But it would be nice to have it under 5kg if you travel by plane frequently. -
Yes it would be nice if it was like that, yes i remember those polls, if an Elitebook 8740W can be 7 and a half pounds like a 15.6 Asus, then so can this machine, i never liked the design of the M17x its just too big and too heavy they went a bit overboard, and i really hate the edge to edge stuff, and yes i would pay extra for it myself. Why not again combine a matte screen again with a gaming notebook? I hope Clevo does their homework too, they can't be sitting around as a separate eninity and just try to accommodate an audience different from others, and plus my god their speakers suck!! lol The Sony Z IPS panel is insane, the 1600x900 my god i love it. I can't imagine carrying an M17x around everyday, and yes some people will buy one machine like that and it should be light enough to just take around everyday and i am getting sick and tired of being tired go to a GYM!!
-
Clevo is just stubborn, but I have hope that they'll listen.
That's why I'm waiting until December for my machine, because I believe that they'll eventually adopt some higher technology panels later this year. -
Well lets see what they do, yes i agree also i will wait for a long time, i interested in the new 480GTX see how things goes, yeah clevo usually brings out some awesome models in the 4th quarter.
-
Would be nice if these Clevos had DisplayPort for Eyefinity...
Edit: Or at least three video ports, thought having one DisplayPort daisy chained to three monitors would be more efficient. -
The X7200 looks like my kind of laptop
-
Awesome for you man, i would wait for sandy bridge.
-
Sandy bridge is going to take sometime, and even more till it's adopted by Clevo's desktop notebook, the new CPUs are not going to be much faster than 980X desktop CPU though except for the sandy bridge hexacore, while notebook sandy bridge won't be anything near 980X still. So if you need the power, just go for the X7200 when it's out.
-
Yeah i know, it would be awesome for RTS, and other stuff.
-
-
X7200 is just jaw dropping , mind blasting, laptop!
-
Yes it is a pretty amazing machine, too bad no backlit keyboard. yeah i agree about sandy bridge it probably will be delayed and by then there will be another core i7 out anyway.
-
Sandy Bridge is still well on track for Q1 2011. Rumour has it that it's going to be lunched in February 2011 and production has already started. Expect one month from the official announcement to the first laptops with Sandy Bridge being shipped.

Hello,
I wrote the stuff from style note an email and asked what is the difference between W870CU/ W880CU, here is the answer from them:
"W880CU ID is same as W870CU
The major difference as below:
1) W880CU is re-designed to support Fermi VGA N11E-GTX 480 2G ( 100W)
2) Ac adaptor is changed from 120W to 180W in order to support 100W
3) the CPU cover from D cover will increase 3mm because the heatsink will be bigger in order to support 100W
4) Support USB3.0 ( additional cost $10)
Here attached W880CU spec sheet FYI, MP: June
Thanks"
So, the W870CU will NOT support the 480M... I´m going to wait now until the W880CU comes out.. -
why dont clevo make a backlight keyboard it truely baffles me..I mean how much drain will it take ... most people will use these models for gaming but i got to buy a seperate lamp just to play in the dark
-
.
Wait...can't w870cu owners just buy the D cover separately and thus the gtx480m would fit? Or is the D Cover completely redesigned or something and have different mounting points. -
He didn't say it would be completely unsupported. Maybe the only difference is the heatsink and the AC adapter (aside from USB 3.0 support).
-
I'd like to have some more details on:
I guess we won't know much until we can get a visual on the GPU itself. -
Hello,
btw, here is the attached spec sheet mentioned in the mail...
Regards
Andy -
nice one Tirenz!
-
will the x7200 support the I7 930 desktop processor?
-
I'm sure it will take any desktop i7 you have available.
-
The 90 minute battery life is a cruel joke. Must be with a dual core...and with the display turned off, on idle, with everything down clocked maybe? You won't get 90 minutes just browsing the web.
-
You will ¨never get 90mins, this sux! With GTX 285M you get about 55 minutes, no more than 65mins with GTX 480M lol, sux big time.
-
That's ridiculous given that I used to get more than 2 hours on my laptops with a P processor and about 1H and 50 minutes with a quad.
-
Well,well,well.
Clevo is finally unleashing the big guns.
If everything works as advertised this changes the game and vaults them back to the top.
It's going to be a interesting summer and the next upcoming months should be a blast. -
I totally agree IKAS V, it does suck we don't get enough battery life. I feel that intel should of concentrated more on the P series it had so much potential, they should make a P series quadcore, there going to have too, since AMD is coming out with a mobile quad-core that only has a 25 watt usage.
-
Less the CPU, more the 4-cell battery.
-
It's a trade-off. High performance = low battery life, mediocre perforamnce = ok battery life.
I have no problems accepting that. -
-
I think the problem ist that of the people who actually buy those gaming notebooks only a minority uses them on battery. You can't game on battery anyway and just for waching a movie? Takes 2 more minutes to bring the PSU to where you r watching the movie. It is, in a way, a trade-off as high performance with those components nowadays need sophisticated cooling which takes space and occupyies the back of the laptop, so no space for big or even extendable batteries.
I'm not saying that the trend towards more powerful hardware that uses more and more energy is good, but unfortunetely not enough people - also on the desktop market - care about those things.
However, I think the situation is going to improve once the dedicated GPU can be deactivated completely and the CPU can underclock and undervolt itself sufficiently. -
Yes nvidia optimus, it makes life easier, but still in its ear.y stages anyway. i agree about that, i dont care much for battery life with a high end machine. seriously who really cares.
-
I guess starting from Sandy Bridge we'll have the battery life and the performance. But after the M17X-R1 feeble attempt... it will take awhile to make everything work flawless. And not sure I got the patience, hehe. So tempting.
-
In terms of chassis space, a 17 inch notebook like the W870CU could accommodate a larger battery if they would drop the second hard-drive. And yes, Sandy Bridge paired with Optimus technology should improve battery life significantly which is something I am looking forward to. Add to that a larger battery and I am sold.
If mobility wasn't so important, then why do 15 inch gaming notebooks sell better than their 17 inch counterparts? The difference between them is only about 100 USD.
It is natural to find that most of the users who post on the Clevo and Alienware section of this forum to be hard-core enthusiasts when it comes to performance and latest technology, it is after all this enthusiasm that makes them active in the community, but that does not mean that all people who look for a Clevo notebook are like this. So judge more carefully when you are saying that "people who actually buy those gaming notebooks only a minority uses them on battery". -
Though they could probably keep it all by shifting some internals around. -
-
I guess they could offer as an option to sacrifice the ODD for a second HDD. It's not very difficult to do and will keep everyone happy.
-
Lets be honest, W86/87 dont have the physically smallest batteries but do have ONLY 3cell batteries which is never seen before dumaas solution. They should offer maybe bulkier and havier battery for extra, but spending 2000USD for ONE purpose machine is CRAZY. And as potential buyer I am supposed to sacrify mobility? What is that exactly? Okay I will not get 3hours but I will get even less compared to Asus/MSI or Alienware laptops with comparable hardware so there is nothing left to sacrify anymore. 50Minutes running on battery ? Woah, even behemot like D9F last about 90mins while surfing. This is not about chosing between powerfull laptop and mediocre laptop. Its about choice between CRAPY W86/87 laptops which unfortunatelly suffer by horrific battery time that CLEVO decided to offer.
So why did I spent couple minutes on this? I would like to say that its not about powerfull gaming machine and mediocre powerfull laptop choice. These laptop could have better battery life IF CLEVO WANTED. Asus/MSI/Alienware have comparably powerfull laptops (maybe Clevo has the edge about 10%) but do have also MUCH BETTER time running on battery (about 50-100% maybe more compared to CLEVO's 50-55minutes). I cant imagine my self being in the school sitting right by anyone with GTX 285M/HD5870 based laptop who is runnig twice as long on the battery, because CLEVO decided to use crappiest batteries in laptop ever. -
Don't be confused with the 3 cells (3800 mAh). Those are Lithium-ion polymer batteries, you cannot compare them with the 8 cell batteries we were used - they are actually more advanced. But I agree, clevo could use bigger batteries. A 4 cell Lithium-ion polymer battery would have a bit more power (~5000 mAh) than the 8 cell battery (4400 mAh) from the previous Clevo models and it should not be too hard to get that into the chassis, I agree with Blacky on this point.
And what you "sacrifice" is not mobility per se but running the laptop on battery. You can still carry the laptop to every place easier than you could with any desktop, you just need a power plug. Even for watching movies (which in my case would be HD movies) or browsing the web I actually want the power of my CPU, because it is just more convenient. And with this kind of hardware running on high performance on battery is not going to give you long battery life nomatter how big the battery.
Again, if I want battery life, I want something like 8 hours + (something that we will not see for years to come in gaming laptops) and then I just buy a netbook, for which I certainly have the money if I have the money to spend so much money on a gaming laptop. Then I have it both: mobility in the sense of moving my gaming rig whenever to whereever I want and having 10 hours of battery life. -
Daniel, nobody cares by what technology was their battery made with unless difference is significat from other point of view. Why G73 is able tu push battery about 125 minutes ? W870CU has no better colling and provides only about 45% of battery life. Its also not much havier/lighter or bigger/smaller. Its because CLEVO screwed this notebook line in matter of battery life big time and it could be better only if they wanted. Dont you agree?
-
I can think about 3-5 laptops having this performance and offering 100% TIME+ running on battery compared to W87Cu.
Please dont say how powerhungry is browsing or listening to music, we all know that but why this laptop offer only 50% of
regular battery time? DO NOT JUSTIFY IT AND SAY THAT CLEVO COULD HAVE DONE BETTER AS MANY COMPARABLE NOTEBOOKs IF THEY WANTED -
-
I don't think anyone bought the Clevos for the battery life. There's a difference between something that is good to have, and something that is needed, the battery life in this case here is something good to have. I think Clevo is simply experimenting with LI-polymer battery here, I'm sure it actually cost them a lot more implementing these advanced batteries than all those normal notebook batteries. -
I'm not talking about other laptops, because - what I understood was that - people were angry because the previous generation of Clevo notebooks had 2h+ battery life and this one doesnst. I merely pointed out that the battery has nearly the same size. I alsready agreed that Clevo could use bigger battieres. It would not have hurt to go for a 4 cell LI-polymer battery. I also think those LI-polymer batteries are actually cheaper in a way. It is also true that Clevo has a very solid cooling solution that is better than in other laptops.
And I did not say how power hungry listening to music or browsing the web is. What is meant is this: I want the power of my W860CU all the time, that's why I bought such a machine. EVEN if I listen to music, browse the web, watch FullHD movies (which is not even possible with energy saving mode). I simply do not see the need to run this laptop on battery.
Sure, longer battery life would be nice and Clevo should work on this, but apparently - even though people seem to complain about it - enough people still buy those laptops. And - like I said - with the current market and low price for netbooks, I think a two laptop solution is the best and Clevo seems to know this. (Too bad I didnt find a reseller who sells Clevo netbooks ;-) ) -
Well that's just you Daniel and as I said before, I do expect most people on this forum to agree with you.
I have a Clevo and I do use it on battery and generally when I do it's until I almost drain it. Two of my friends who also have Clevo's use their laptops on battery regularly, they specifically went for the M860TU because that gets them 2 and a half hours of battery life. For both me and my friends gaming is secondary while the main purpose of our machines is productivity. But that's the beauty of Clevo laptops or used to be, you can use them as any laptop while they still pack amazing performance under the hood with little compromise between performance and the general characteristics of that make a laptop... a laptop.
I have nothing against high-end plug only desktop replacements, like the M17x or the former D900C. There is a specific market for those laptops, but in the market for light 17 inch and 15 inch gaming laptops, I think battery as well as weight are important features which should not be undermined. I am not saying that the W870CU should have 3 hours of battery life, but they should struggle to keep it around 2 hours while for the 15 inch version this should be around 2 hours and a half. -
But your right, considering this I should have gone for a real desktop-replacement laptop, but like I said, mobility for me is not just battery life, but also the ability to move the laptop around with relative ease (as the term implies).
Don't get me wrong: Clevo should use bigger batteries, and especially Intel and Nvidia should concentrate on energy saving instead of ultimate performance.
