A netbook might be a solution, but only in some cases.
Anyway, I can see we are largely in agreement here so I will rest my argument for a while.

i find the x7200 too good to be true, desktop i7, Dual 480m, triple ram and triple hard drive bay and an optical drive bay all in a 17.3inch notebook? Are the power bricks in SLI too?

It is true. 300W adapter however is not able to supply DUAL GTX480M with any of 130W CPUs. Best you can get out of it will be 130W CPU + dual 75W GPUs which means DUAL GTX 285M or to be soon released 75W GPU from nvidia (maybe gtx 380M?) but NO DUAL GTX 480M.

    Other scenario will be Dual GTX 480M paired with 80W or 95W XEON based Core i7 Desktop CPUs ( X5670 2.93GHz 6-core 95W at BEST,E5530 2.44GHz 4-core 80W,X5570 2.93Ghz 4-core cpu etc)

    YOU CANNOT EXPECT 300W PSU SUPPLY 2x100W GPU + 130WCPU + LCD + LEDS + 3x HDD + ODD + 3x USB etc...

First thing is that Alienware is supposedly working on a 400W notebook.
Second thing is that Clevo could go back to its D900C roots if it dropped the desktop i7-9xx support and use instead i7-8xx series CPUs. i7-8xx have a TDP of 95W which would give the notebook enough space to take in two 100W cards and all the rest of the stuff (keep in mind that a 300W rated AC adapter can provide a bit more power than what is specified on it). They could also offer in the same model a version with an i7-980 CPU but only with a single card for those who want a mobile workstations.

5W isn't near enough headroom for screen, mainboard, HDD, etc. That's why m17xs were having flickering with CF 4870s and 920xm on a 240W supply.

At the same time the W870CU works fine with an adapter of 120W.

Very true, but you're arguing for 300W based on a processor TDP that they won't be using according to spec sheets. It just seems implausible at this point.

x7200 is an amazing technological feat, if true.

Intel Hexa-core Extreme and two GTX 480M's in a 17" chassis? Whooaa

If this thing is made of metal, then it's definitely a major design win. I hope Clevo didn't cheap out as usual by using cheap plastic. What I'm hoping for with this X7200:

    1. Option of RGB LED (both matte or glossy)

    2. Metal chasis

    3. SLI 480M or XF 5870

    4. Overclocking options in the bios + TDP unlocker

    5. Backlit keyboard

If Clevo can pull all that off with the X7200, they will have the ultimate notebook on their hands. Sadly, nobody seems to be able to create the ultimate gaming notebook.

There's no way there's available headroom. I even have sincere doubts about the ability to overclock the GPUs, unless it comes with a 400W+ PSU.

I'm honestly skeptical of the whole thing, though it's Clevo so anything is possible.

This is going to be interesting. The 480 gtx single already generate tons of heat and consume too much power. With dual... I guess it saves money so you don't have to buy a microwave oven. Battery is going to be ridiculous. 30 minutes ha.

Clevo notebooks never use batteries, at least they don't call them that, it's called the UPS if it's in a Clevo notebook.

dang it.. just when I thought I already set to get W870CU.. now the W880CU is coming.. :(

anyone know how far the W880CU to release? I was hoping to get my new lappy within this month, most I can bear using my old laptop is until mid next month.. and how big is the different between that new GTX 480 compared to HD 5870, anyone know? if not that much I'll stick with W870CU I think :0

How old is your laptop? Get an ssd for it if you must make it faster. Well also that is funny about the battery, my battery is fedex!! lol They make such crappy battery really horrible, just like Asus dies so quickly lol. I really hope they make their primary king coming out the x7200, be able to be with Nvidia or ati without any fried components. I really hope they bring out the notebook with a metal chasis, and a freaking bright LED or RGBLED, use LG or something else, always using some companies i have never heard of.

I doubt x7200 will be full metal though, at most metal handrest. I don't think it's that they don't want to have metal casing, but can't. Their desktop CPU lineup had always been 12lb+ even with plastic casing, now, put a metal casing on it and you will have a 15lb+ beast you are really better off with a desktop.

The x7200 is rated at a weight of <5.5 kg. I would say that definitely excludes plastic, but they could use carbon-fibre or something which is just as cool :).

Carbon fiber is very bad at shock resistance. It's hard to bend but very easy to crack. It's too brittle for a laptop IMHO.
Unless its elasticity is increased, but then you'll loose the purpose.

Yes that is very true, that is why sony only uses carbon fiber only for the their Z series machines, its small, the big thing if not handled correctly will break easily and hence the m15x hinge lol

and carbon fiber is the material that stealth aircraft use for not being discovered by radars, so, for wifi and bluetooth is not good.

X7200 will replace D900F, same spec as D900F just new mechanical design and few technical changes like SLI and Crossfire support, HDMI input 1.4, USB 3.0 port and bigger 300W AC Adapter to support this. Same X58 chipset and same CPU support.

    or

    16.5" x 11.26" x 2.4"

Quite slim actually judging by the dimensions, my 8690 is already 2" high, a 2.4" for such a machine seems really too slim to be using conventional cooling IMO.

It's housing a 16.9" LCD, and the dimensions are different from the D900, so it must be a complete redesign and new chassis.

The X8100 is most likely EOL. Don't expect any CPU/GPU refreshes for that one.

The D900F may have the same fate.

I totaly agree, the D900F and the 18.4 monster are both going to be discontinued who needs that when you have this one, too bad cause the design of the x8100 is well pretty revolutionary and the more better looking notebooks from Clevo.

No MR 5870 for the D900F because it gets replaced with the X7200. No Crossfire MR 5870 for the X8100 because it gets SLI GTX 480M. I wouldnt say the X8100 is EOL. With SLI GTX 480M and 940XM it should offer more performance than the AW M17x with Crossfire MR 5870.

I was agreeing about the x8100, not considering the D900. When we were told that the x8100 would not get the 5870 (when two others of its premium line did), it was said to be a "business decision." Wanting to add SLI GTX 480M does not preclude them from offering 5870 CF.
