Does the GTX480m suck that bad that no one besides notebook check wants to review it?
-
-
...
I believe hothardware did a review of the card in the D900F(NP9285) ...
This is Sager/Clevo we are talking about here so its not like the larger companys where you will see reviews from all the major websites... They dont ship out there machines to everyone and its usually the
resellers who send the machines out for reviews to the sites anyhow and not the manufacture like Dell for instance...
I am sure Anandtech will end up with a machine at some point and a few other noteworthy sites... -
Also is there anything "special" in the bios? -
Yeah, it would be nice to see some Furmark temps as well the gaming ones.
-
Witcher just ordered a NP9285 with a 480m from Gentech , he said he might throw in his 980x for some testing also
.... Good stuff...
-
Lets go resellers, where are the benchmarks?
-
Yeah i would have thought there would be alot more talk about this card and the machines then we have seen thus far ....
Its all been very strange for such new tech to basically have no coverage and knowing these machines are in peoples hands... Ah well come friday and we should have some temps etc from the 9285... -

Well as you can understand when these new cards come out there could be a little driver immaturity. I do see this. 3Dmark does ok at around 18k with the standard driver on the CD that comes from Clevo. Vantage is not working for me right now. I really want to find some good drivers for this 480m. Anyone know of any besides the CD one? I do not like to run furmark but I did for 10 minutes and the temps got to 72c.
-
72C after 10 min furmark is really impressive if true, it's the same max temp furmark as my 5870MR, but that's after ICD thermal paste and ambient temp of around 15-20C. Moreover, considering that 480M has a TDP of 100W, and still getting the same temp, it's truly some imba cooling there. -
72 degrees is beyond amazing considering the ATI average in the 80s -90s ....
As for Vantage thats no biggie but you could try some other things like some game benchmarks ... Crysis, Resident Evil 5, Far Cry 2, Dirt2 etc... Im not sure what games you have if any at all so those are just some suggestions...
If the temps are truly that low then that machine has some serious room to grow and will stomp on the 5870m in the end pretty good if its OC friendly...
Fzhfzh if your Furmark temps are that low that is even more impressive as i could never get near that temp with my W8760CU and the average i got was around 81ish cant remember my Ambient temps at the time though... -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes that is one thing already I'm happy about, and that is the temps. There was so much talk of this card having a melt down, being a furnace, etc. Not true at all. I tell you the truth from what I have done so far, which is not a whole lot it seems cooler than the W870CU with the 5870 in it. The Furmark for over 10 minutes was only 72c. Clevo has really done an excellent job in this 8lb notebook to keep this baby cool. Just look at the heatsinks back a few posts...
-
Yes, if true, it totally debunked the speculation that 480M will be like an oven. It's making me wanting to change to a 8850... but the price is simply too prohibitive...
-
I agree the cost is just wrong for the 480m and there is part of me that wants another 17 inch Clevo but im still not sure the extra cost is going to be worth it in the end to me .... I really enjoy the 3hours of battery life on this machine and the extra amenities like backlit keys great sound etc....
I really did enjoy my W8760CU while i had it though ... -
babyhemi, is a NP9285 anywhere near you as well for some temp tests?
-
My friend ordered one(NP9285) today and will have it friday so ill be sure to have him post some temps ....
-
u do that and we will be even more grateful for your contributions
-
.... I know i am excited for him and to see the results ...
-
Those are good temps, I am almost inclined to say that something is wrong if those are the real temps. Either way, it all looks good until now, except for the price.
Tell me babyhemi, are the memory timings of the GTX 480M N1 ? I can't tell for sure from your pictures. -
-
Are the speaker volume/clarity improved on the 8850 over the 8760? -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
So far looks like the temps and 3DMark 06 are doing better in the W880CU/8850 than that of the 9285-D900F so far. We will see...

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
The 480M temps you guys are reporting are remarkable given the pre-release reviews (or speculation).
-
strange enough. why 8850 by babyhemi score higher than 9285 by Charles? what's res did you use to test your system? can you provide some pics like Charles did?
-
It is a shame that Clevo/Sager uses the Sentilic touchpads on their higher end models like the 8850 and 8760. -

-
wow, 17.7k on 3dmark06, and that is without oc yet. my 5870 with oc only reach 14.8k.
does the score in the 3dmark06 affected with the cpu used? am using 820qm. -

Any vantage runs yet? Or is did I miss it in this thread.
-
Here is the Vantage score from the NP9285 but the GPU score should be almost exactly the same across both machines...

I'm not sure if anyone posted the Clevo W880CU-8850 Manual yet.
-
Under website it states: "The device also comes with an optional vendor's driver to support the additional features for the system users, such as on-pad virtual zones for vertical and horizontal scrolling."
That is what Im having some hesititation with about the 8850..
Or better yet if you have it, does it have finger scrolling at all??

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/255series/25869_win7x64/nv_disp.inf
You gotta replace the inf file into the folder from 258.69 drivers. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
-
Anyone buy an 8850 yet and willing to post some benchmarks?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
-
Do an install from the device manager(Manual install) and not from the setup ... Thats how we got Speedy Gonzalez drivers installed... He is using the 258.69 drivers ...
The scores did not seem to change though even with the newest drivers but atleast they are the latest.. -
-
EDIT;
Thought you were referring to Witchers bench, BLURB! Witcher however in his D900F also scored about 8k GPU.
The GPU scores from the 9280/D900f are getting soundly beat by Hemi's benches which is very strange indeed. -
That 1500 point difference is from an Overclock ...
Your not going to get 1500 points more from a new set of drivers and all the scores to date were showing around the 8k mark in Vantage on the GPU stock..
I think Hemi forgot to mention he Overclocked ?...
-
-
With those temps, I start to wonder why Nvidia did not bumped up the clocks and left them so low. It looks like there is enough room for a decent 20% overclock.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
-
You need to turn Physx OFF. Your vantage scores are falsely inflated.
It could be drivers, the latest Catalyst 10.6 boosted my Vantage score by over 1000 (see sig) with a lower overclock on the GPU. The thing is that he keeps using physx for his vantage scores so we can't see what his CPU is really supposed to get. If it's not the drivers then it could be he's OC'ing and not mentioning it though I'd be surprised as to why he'd do anything like that. -
Physx never boosted the GPU score.
-
Who said it did?
