Speedy Ran all those same drivers and only until he overclocked was there a differnce of that margin...
I ran those terrible Dell drivers and the difference was night and day on my card so i can see you getting quite a boost especially across 2 cards compared to previous drivers and more so if you had been using the Dell ones...
-
-
You know those Dell drivers suck at Vantage but they do better in 3dmark06 and in games. I lost about 10-15% performance in GTA 4 with the Cat 10.6 vs the Dell 10.5. -
I think when i ran the Dell drivers the only thing i tested was Vantage at which point i just said wow these are bad and went back to 10.6 ... Glad you said something as i should have done some further testing... -
Yup for the settings I use, GTA 4 went from perfectly smooth and playable (using Dell 10.5) to choppy with ATi's reference 10.6. Most other games were about the same performance (except Trine, that also lost performance). Overall I think for games the Dell drivers are still better. For benchmarking in Vantage, the 10.6 are the ones to have. -
Damn, Babyhemi is either not listening or I dont get it.
Please, could you tell us if score you are getting is with OCed GPU and if so what clocks you are running at? This is very unclear and you only keep posting screens with no additional information.
Thank you! -

I think Speedy's best runs were at 530/1400 .... He said 540 just locks but its a voltage issue clearly... If you can figure out a way to throw some more voltage at the card its going to get insane
.... He has been trying to figure out a way to do it ... Not sure you will be that hardcore about it though...
-
-
Yeah him and i were trying to figure out the safest way to handle it but its all so risky and the machine is only 2 days old so it would be bad if he bricked it so quickly ....
I know he wants to do it but only under the right circumstances ...
Since there only seems to be 2 owners of these machines NP9285/W880CU things might take awhile longer...
Clearly price has played a HUGE role in peoples interest in this machine .... When the 5870m hit and i got mine on day 1 there were plenty of people to follow but this round it seems interest in actual purchases vs interest in seeing what it can do do is weak at best sadly.... -
Trying to understand, What is in this laptop to cost $2100 USD for a i5-520M, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, DVD Drive, NO OPERATING SYSTEM !!!!! Is it ONLY for 2GB GTX 480M GPU ????
-
The 480m adds on about $600.00 over the 5870 system...
With that you are also getting USB 3.0, a better cooling system and larger PSU....
Whether all those things on top of the 480m are worth $600 more is debatable....
If you want to be on the absolute bleeding edge of tech then the 480m is it but if you want to have basically similar performance and save some $$ then the 5870 machine is the best choice period... -

@ BabyHemi,
What's the ambient temp?
Also, are you using a cooler pad?
Those HDD temps are very low, about 10c lower than in my M17X (ambient 27C, no cooler pad) -

I just ordered mine this past weekend!
I cannot wait to get this beast! The temps were all I was worried about, but they have seemed fine, so I took the big leap! Specs below!

Congrats man and enjoy your new beast ...

Haha yeah i would say that is a pretty big jump...
Clevo machines rarely have any issues so you have very little to worry about plus you will find lots of help around here for everything you need ... -

I think I'm also getting it next week.
-
can anyone post a stalker call of pripyat DX 11 benchmark as well please?
-
+1 rep for you! -
Just ordered mine today. I hope they ship fast..

Hi, im pretty new to the forums, as well as gameing laptops. (mostly used mac, dont hate me lol and the last time i did custom desktop rigs was Pre-SLI / PRE-Mainstream water cooling days)
I just ordered the 8850 a few weeks ago, got a notice on line that it was about 3 days away from makeing it to me (stationed in iraq)
i had a few questiones. when i first ordered it, i had gotten it with minimal ram, minimal harddrive space (as i have extras here) and the 720QM cpu.
my questions are,
is it hardware raid or software? I plan to pop in two 320 gig with raid 0, or just drop in one of my SSD and mirror it to a 500 gig
finaly, is it possible to buy the 920XM cpu and put that into this laptop? wasnt sure of the cpus are removeable on gameing laptops.
thanks for the help,
Tiger -
Hardware RAID.
Yes, the CPU is easily upgradeable. -
Thank you very much
great news to hear!
by chance, where is the most reliable place to find mobile varients of the higher end i7 cpus? if i can get them at decent prices i am hopeing to put up some fairly discriptive how-tos on upgradeing the hardware once i get my hands on it and take it apart.do some overclocking... once i figure all that out again. just a few more days!
also, this has been bugging me all night, whats really the main point of the express card slot? looking around the only thing i can find worth bothering with are firewire cards and e-sata cards... but seeing as how its already got an esata port that seems somewhat useless.
sorry for the newb questions lol, been outa the game for some time now, trying to catch up to to everyone. -
-
I found the 940XM through ebay, wasnt able to find it anyplace else. seems like a decent price considering its the only place i can find it off hand lol.
thanks again everyone! o/ -
Better to spend $446 on the 920XM. The 940 certainly isn't worth +$200.
-
Is the Cizmo CX1730i based on the chasis with the single usb 3.0 port, or not ?
Because in it's specs there are 4 usb 2.0 listed, and not 3x2.0 and 1x3.0.

They will probably ship you a different chassis depending on what video card you choose.

Nah 720/740/820/840 are not worth getting anymore. With ThrottleStop's multiplier and TDP unlock, the 920/940xm are the one's to get. -
That's in case you are into OC'ing.
But not everyone even wants to hit above 60W with the CPU.
And BTW, are there any unsuccessful (or any at all) attempts to use ThrottleStop on 840QM? Do we know for sure that it can't compete with 920XM? I remember T9900 was very close to X9100.
I might try Throttlestop on my 840QM soon. -
The 820 doesn't work so I'm assuming 840 won't either. The higher TDP is more than just for OC'ing. It prevents throttling when the CPU is pushed passed a certain temperature. For example, in some games (e.g. Trine), my CPU was being pushed hard enough (passed 72C) that it caused it to throttle and I'd get stuttering in the game with fps drops. Ever since the new TS came out with TDP unlock, that's no longer the case. I've seen a general performance increase across the board with all my games. I think getting a 920xm is probably the best bet. I'm very happy with my 940xm so far. -
-
The 820 TDP is locked ... Unclewebb and i tried but it was a no go...
-
Well, depending on the cooling reserves of the 8740w I might consider upgrading to the extreme's. -
