Well, an 8130 with the i7 processor, 4 gigs of ram, and the stock 95% Gamut glossy screen is around $1090. With air shipping, it'd be around $1250 before any discounts.

That's at least $200 less than the 8150. The only question I still need to answer is if I ever plan to upgrade the GPU...and it seems that'd be possible with the 8130 too. So now it's the rubberized finish VS matte-plastic to settle on, lol.

    =D

I really like the outside feel of rubberized finish,

    but the trackpad, ech.

It's not too much of a deciding factor, so go with the 8130, that is my final recommendation.

I'm so proud to have you guys here, waiting for me at all times of the day, EAGER to give me advice...

    *sobs*

Btw, you missed my question about XIV Online - would the 560M perform admirably when running that game?

Yep, that's exactly what I mean man. Me and you might like opening up a laptop or PC and tinkering around with upgrades, but I think we're in the minority there vs. the average user. Not sure on all the resellers either, but I'd imagine not all of them are as accomodating and open to unusual configurations that deviate from the norm - unless of course you up the ante or are a suave negotiator.

At the time I ran the benchmarks, it was with the 460m.

The quality looked decent, so your 560m should be fine.

I wouldn't worry, and besides, I really don't remember if it was online or not, I think it was online though.

That game is so horribly optimized that I'm scared to even hazard a guess, haha. They've made some strides, but ooof'! Hit or miss man, hit or miss...and there have been a heck of a lot of misses technically and aesthetically there.

lol yeah, I know. still...being the FF fan I am, I wanna try it. I was told the story/music is actually quite awesome if you can stay on track and play through the story material.

it just takes a while to get to it because of the content that you need to clear before story missions show up

One thing I notice is that Sager and the Sager resellers are really accommodating. You don't really get this in alienware forums, but resellers hanging around, testing, benchmarking for us, catering to our needed configs...

That's just how I feel, and I feel that anything is possible.

My reseller, Larry, helped me RMA my laptop with his own expenses, and he trusted me even after I said that I didn't have any $$ in my account to pay at the moment, and would have to wait until I got back to the states.

He was totally cool, he understood the situation, and he gladly did everything out of his own pocket, and trusted my words that I would pay back when I got to the states..

Resellers are like our friends, and I feel that if they aren't 100% sure it won't work, they won't do it just for $$$'s sake, and that's why I really trust this community and the resellers.

I see. Well, I guess I'll ask them if they're interested in giving me free air shipping. That'd reduce the price of the 8150 by quite a bit. Otherwise I'll get the 8130 instead. ^_^

    I kinda feel dirty.

There's no doubt there and I agree with you wholeheartedly. LPC-Digital, XoticPC, Malibal, Mythologic, GenPC, Powernotebooks, and a few others are wonderful businesses run by great and engaging people that seem to genuinely care and want to get you the best deal.

This is a wonderful community and it's nice to be able to rub shoulders with them or ask them specific questions directly. That said, they're still a business and to keep operating and stay functional they need to make a profit.

I hope they do end up staying functional. I just messaged Malibal at 1:30 in the morning asking if they could accommodate free shipping (I feel terrible, haha) or change my order to the 8130 and he responded within a minute saying he'd merely update my order to the 8130 with the same specs I got with the 8150.

No inconvenient calling to cancel the order. ^_^

and if he needs an upgrade, he also has some options.

Thanks XXVII for joining in, and let's all hope for a better day tomorrow...

Yup, getting the 8130 and I'm gonna stick with the faster shipping since the unit itself is cheaper over-all. =D

Thanks a lot guys, you helped a ton. I'll be sure to post my thoughts once I get the unit, in case anyone cares, haha. I'll try not to think about it too much because then the weight will be harder.

I think I'm going to go with rjtech who sells barebones if I ever end up buying this laptop (which I'd very much like to).
Just have to sell 8 other laptops first...

Just thought I'd mention there is really no reason the PSU will be 120$. You can get any 180w PSU and replace the tip for about 20$ total.

Got the config for $1074, with overnight shipping a total of $1238. More than $200 cheaper than the 8170.

^_^ Estimated ship date is the 24th. So I guess the 25th or 26th would be the arrival date.

Proudclad, that's the authorization from when you first submitted your order - the authorization occurs right when you submit the order... when we go to capture the payment - it will only be for your new total, and the rest will go back into your account.

So now what exactly is going on? Is Sager building the unit or looking to see if they have one premade?

And then they ship it to you guys for some testing, and then it gets shipped here?

As far as I know, clevo ships the parts to Malibal, and they build it themselves. They aren't sager resellers, they build the laptops just like sager. After they build it, they'll test it and send it to you.

That's probably the day they finish your build and ship it out to you, you'll probably receive it a few days after that date depending on what shipping speed you ordered.

Hopefully you get yours by the 24th. A lot of us, myself included, preordered back in the beginning of August. It was supposed to ship the monday of this week but was pushed back another week.

Oh well, but you may or may not also experience a delay if there is a lot of backlogged orders.

Yeah, that's why I didn't get the 6990. On top of the higher cost, the wait would've been much longer. All for something I don't particularly NEED at this point.

If the shipping takes longer, do they refund the extra shipping costs? Or is that a no-refund policy with resellers?

Get the 6990M just because it's future proofing the laptop, and for $245 you're not going to get the 6990 card for 245 more anywhere by itself. And you play games on your PS3, but really because you have a nice Video card if you got the 6990, you might start playing more games on the PC. The 6990 is many times more powerful than what is in the PS3, you could play games at max settings and resolution.

At the rate in which hardware pops off the assembly line, it's difficult to future proof any system. There's always bigger and better on the horizon and just around the corner. Such is the nature of the beast and swift march of technology. It can be maddening at times.

I hear where you're coming from, but I think in Proudclad's case and for his gaming habits, he made a prudent decision with the 560m. Should he start to play a lot more PC games and need some extra horsepower, he can look down the road 6-8 months from now and swap in a more powerful GPU of his choosing. With this path he saves money, has flexibility, and has exactly what he wants.

Personally, since I got myself a P150HM for home use, my desktop has gathered dust. The mobility just wins out over raw power (and the 485m is no slouch either, it can play any of the games I play on a regular basis). The fact that I don't need to be at a desk with all the peripherals you need for a desktop just makes it more appealing.

It all just boils down to your usage and what you're comfortable with :)

I definitely agree about the peripherals point. That's one reason why I absolutely loved my GBA / DS / PSP when I played them a lot. I imagine the laptop would be similar in that vein.

    We shall soon see. =)
