Hahaha, last night I had a bad dream about the unit.

I dreamed that arrived...but when I opened the box, the hinges were really lose and the keyboard had tons of flex. I remember being really unsatisfied with it and not being able to return it, although I don't remember why.

    ^_^

Then I snapped back into reality and remembered that it'll be a kickass unit based on all the reviews and user feedback. =)

Just ordered the P170HM earlier today, complete with 6990m and everything :D

Considering I'm running on a 3 year old Inspiron 1520, I don't think I can adequately describe how excited I am for this new beast, even with the inevitable delay on the Radeon cards...

I'll be a very happy camper if all the things people have said about Malibal and these components are true :)

256GB Samsung SSD... I see a really huge hole in my wallet. Times two?! I think I will need to contact a loan shark... ;)

Malibal has worked over the weekend to keep up with demand, if my laptop gets over the border and into my hands by the end of next week defect-free, I will be a very happy camper. :D

    THREE WEEKS?

Please tell me you guys waited that long because of the 6990M. Because if it's even for the stock card, then I'll have paid the $160 shipping for nothing.

Yes, it was because of the 6990m. Was supposed to get it last week, but was delayed.

If yours is stock, expect it in about a week.

Right? Although I haven't been waiting three weeks, the anticipation is killing me, along with school starting today. Guess I'll be a little behind on my online class curriculum. Kind of thinking of buying a cheapy at best buy and returning it when mine finally arrives. Good luck guys on getting yours soon!!

I was going to get a cheapy at best buy too, haha. But then I realized I'd have to reinstall everything once I return it....and it'd mean gas and time wasted. Might as well use the family PC until the beast arrives.

But yeah, I should've pulled the trigger earlier in the summer. I guess school starting was the push I needed to make up my mind. I was all over the place! So many decisions. Glad it's finally over. ^_^

Choosing was fun, I guess, but not when school's in session, hee hee.

He ordered a P170HM. Since they're larger they are cooler. The P150HM should ship wednesday, for those who ordered on the 5th or earlier.
That's what I understand from the previous posts in this thread.

Malibal, is it too late to undo the 50 dollar discount for 4 gigs of ram less? Or can you guys put that in for me and change the order price by adding 50?

If it can still ship on the right day, I'd prefer the extra ram while I'm at it.

would be cheaper to just buy the ram online and install it yourself. $50 gets you 8GB of ram (2x4GB) with $10 left over.

    Which brand is better?

And after installing Windows, popping in the ram will show up in the BIOS, right? Those are compatible with the unit, right? Just checking.

I can't speak to brand, but any DDR3 1333 laptop RAM (PC3 10600, PC3 10660 or PC3 10666) will be compatible. And yep, you can always upgrade RAM after you install Windows. It will be detected on POST and will automatically show up in the OS.

The reseller posting to say it can be upgraded after it's recieved instead of keeping quiet and letting him send the extra money for them to do it?!? That's great customer service IMO.

As long as you get RAM with a lifetime warranty from a reputable brand you should be ok. I've used both patriot and corsair, and they're both good. Others to consider: Kingston, Crucial, and Samsung. Check Newegg for reviews.

When you say lifetime, do you mean MY lifetime or the RAM's established lifetime? Also, is the lfietime warranty included in the purchase of specific brands?

For anyone with the glossy screen or experience - is it impossible to use the screen unless you're in the dark?

Is the matte screen a considerable upgrade? Because if it won't impact the picture quality by much, and if it won't impact the shipping date either, maybe I should make the jump from the glossy to the matte.

nice quality for gaming and movies is great but if the matte isn't that much different while being viable in EVERY environment...then I guess it'd be worth it.

For me, glossy is nearly impossible to use outside on a bright sunny day. Inside use is ok, although you still get a lot of glare/reflections. That was my experience with my old XPS.

And is the Sager's matte screen still good with colors and video? When compared to the glossy, that is.

I wish I could just see both for myself, haha. But I guess I can always replace the screen, right? Just order one online? I loved the glossy screen on the Asus G73. Never took it outside, and I actually don't plan on working outside.

Matte vs Glossy comes down to contrast on otherwise similar displays. The glossy will appear to have richer colors and blacker blacks. (The screen won't actually make them any better, but the appearance will make it look that way).

You can always swap the screen yourself if you ordered one of the AUO screens after the fact. The replacement isn't hard, though if you're afraid to pull apart your laptop to do it, it isn't recommended.

I am personally a fan of glossy screens because I don't work in sunlight and I find them to be easier on my eyes than matte. All personal preference though :)

Then I shall stick with the glossy unless it proves inefficient!

And I wouldn't be afraid to replace the screen. Experimentation!

I'm curious how a screen can appear better (in contrast and such) but not actually be better. Surely there is nothing to the screen except appearance.
I never paid attention in science class but would be interested to hear.

It has to do with the way the glossy coating diffuses the light. It's not a property of the monitor itself, but of the coating. This wikipedia article explains it better than I can :)
