Just did an unboxing video, installed the crucial ram and 256gb msata. Reformatting and hopefully will have a mini review this weekend.

I ordered a 7358 as well. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of us on NBR, with most folks going for Sagers like the 7338 or one of the beefier systems with a 870 or 880m. Bit surprising since it seems like one of the best bang for your buck 15" laptops in the $1000-$1200 range. Anyways, hope I don't have to wait much longer than 2 weeks to get mine.

I was torn between the 7358 and the 7378 and ended up going with the 7378. I know it is larger and heavier but the 17.3 inch screen should be a little easier for me to read. I like the 860m maxwell card.

I looked at the 7378 pretty hard. It's a nice machine. Lighter than my 8278.

I was originally looking at 14" laptops but the 7358 had had the specs that i wanted. I could never own a 17" laptop, 15" laptops are big for me, 17" laptops are huge.

The difference from my 15in dell precision and my sager is very small. Less than half an inch all around and the sager is a bit thicker. As far as weight goes the sager is surprisingly light for a 17in.

Saw your post. You can trick out the touchpad with the mouse->touchpad config tool. Set the mouse pointer to level 10 (I think defaults at 3?) and set the pages to 3 (I think defaults to 6). that mimic's pretty well the msi and asus trackpads.

Also, the pinch to zoom in/out gestures get tedius as it's easy to hit when you do the two finger scrolling.. so those can be disabled as well if you hit it accidentally like I always did.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one to think 'what fan noise? what weak speakers? what ghosting keyboard?' with the 8258 :)

The zoom is way too easy to enable when doing two finger scroll so I had to turn it off. The touch pad itself 8snt bad once you play with it. Had to turn up the sensitivity, enable precision and adjust scrolling a hair and now it is definitely usable. It's no thinkpad but I have yet to use anything that comes remotely close to that level of performance.

Agreed. Funny enough, with the tweaking, the touchpad feels and behaves similar to the macbook pro multi-touch touchpad.

I think that's about as close as a comparison as I can think of.

Yeah my laptop arrived! Actually it got here yesterday afternoon but I was too busy setting it up to post. So far it is FAR faster than my old laptop.

NP7378, 4810MQ, 24G of ram, 1 TB 7200 rpm hard drive, 1 TB 5400 RPM hard drive (already had this one)

Of course it will be faster with an SSD but I need to get the money for an SSD first. :)

Thankfully I get out of school in 3 weeks and I start working pretty much immediately and I will make enough to get some SSDs for it before I go to Germany.

My 7358 just entered Phase 1 today and it already feels like such a long wait (Amazon Prime has spoiled me too much for online orders). But I understand it takes time for Sager to put these together, and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait once it finally gets here. I was hoping to have it by the end of next week, but with the email saying 7-12 business days (assuming there are no production delays), I guess that's a bit optimistic.

My NP8268 was just updated to phase 2 today.... had 2 minor hiccups. Back order on the chasiss and then the 95% gamut screen was no longer offered so i had to opt for the lower one... now just more waiting

Same specs as yours though. im excited about the power this thing is going to have especially after coming from an Nvidia GT540m HAHAHA

Just looks. The 98 has a rubberized matte finish while the 78 has a boxier aluminum / glossy plastic finish

Boxier? Should I assume that was meant to be faux aluminum because I don't remember any clevo's being metal though that would be nice if it was an option or few models offered.

The 98 is a bit more angular, sort of like an msi, while the 78 has a more traditional design
Parts of it are real aluminum

There is a mod ti turn off the light of the logo on the trackpad, Xotic needs to add the option if it is possible, it is one of the reasons i did not get the 98, looks "cheap"

The Sager NP8298 / Clevo P177SM-A model comes with that touchpad logo design when the chassis is received from Clevo for retailers all over the world.

There is no provision for a plain touchpad with no logo for this model at this time. Sorry.

I don't know for the 98, but the 8258 has as part of the keyboard customization light application to turn off the trackpad light.

    I don't see why the 98 wouldn't have similar.

Yes it DOES have this feature to turn the lights off on the touchpad. Even though you can do that, some do not like the design of the logo even with the light on it off... :)

    Yes.

It's part of the multi-keyboard color option.

When you select that, you have 3 keyboard colors to choose (all the same if you want) and the final being (drum roll)... the touchpad :)

You can independently turn off any of the portions.

I didnt find the touchpad to be too bothersome, but I did turn it off for the sake of battery life. My alienware on the other hand has a full backlit touchpad thats quite noticeable, but the shade of green makes it quite pleasing.

Man I can't wait to see an order status update email. Been in Stage 1 for almost a week now. Haven't gotten any notice about production delays so I can only hope everything's progressing as expected. I don't mind the wait so long as that time is going towards excellent QA. :)

Well Monday, I ordered from ReflexNotebook a Sager NP8258 S with an i7-4910MQ , 32Gb of RAM, a 880M, 120Gb mSATA (for the OS), a 1TB for storage and no optical drive (plan to add a SSD).
The Sager will replace my old M15x (i7-840QM/8Gb/Radeon 5850), too heavy, noisy and slow.

    Now the wait begin, zzzzz..........

WELP! After all the waiting my 8268-S is finally here and i love it so far, quick system specs:

    i7 4810mq
    GTX 870m
    8 GB ram (later upgrade)
120 GB mSATA Crucial OS Drive
    1 TB 7200 RPM data

System is very fast and responsive and I am currently DL'ing drivers and games but i can update with a Amatuer level review/benchmarks and pics later if anyone is interested. Overall I am fairly impressed with the build quality and non obtrusive look and feel of this laptop and have no complaints as of yet.

quick update: Just wanted to say this little piece since you specifically asked for it and because i see all the posts about clevo fan noise and heat. I only had it last night for a few hours, DLing games and drivers so nothing extensive, but i did run a stress test and benchmark through intel XTU after i was done undervolting (60mW) and the CPU never went above 68C with idle/light web usage around 43C (average).heat generated on my lap was barely noticiable and fan noise was virtually NONEXISTANT even during XTU stress. It suprised and impressed me after reading about previous models. that being said i havent played any games or ran
3Dmark yet (ill post benches/amature review/pics here by the weekend) but overall runs super quiet and cool so far.

like which program? intel's XTU (exteme tuning utility) can be found here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?keyword=""extreme+tuning+utility"". Im still learning the ins and outs and please use at your own risk, i undervolted the core @ 60mV on an i7 4810. helped bring down temps by about 3C and has been perfectly stable so far. there is a thread on this forum for general info and people who are by far more knowledgable than me though
