I was able to get the 1060 installed and working. For anyone wishing to do this project in the future, it's important to know that there is a 1C20 and a 1C60 version of the card. This will affect how the INF file is modified (which is required). I modified the drivers preemptively and could not figure out why the new card wasn't working until I checked the device ID. Furthermore, this effects which vBIOS's can be flashed onto the card. 86.06.19.00.08 mentioned above was NOT compatible. I ended up going with the stock.
Also know that the PCB layout is slightly different between the 1C20 and 1C60. Without modding the heat sink per cutting out a corner as described on this thread or using a copper shim, the heat sink seemed to fit well. I will open everything up again to take a look a the thickness of the thermal paste later today.
UPDATE:
Upon detailed inspection, it seems like with this particular 1060, there are no clearance issues even without a copper shim or heat sink modification. I was able to slide a thin piece of plastic over both of the small squares to left of the die on the image attached to verify none were jammed against the heat sink.
I did however start getting concerned that I might have a fake chip since I couldn't find this chip design reported anywhere and 3dmark11 says I have an unrecognized gpu. Details are in the link below, but at a high level the attached picture is a legit 1060 6GB. It is also the Aetina industrial version with different but very similar specs.

Benchmarks for this Aetina GTX 1060 6GB on a P150EM:
FurMark for some reason won't display results after the benchmark is complete. It gets roughly 60fps @ 1080p, 0x MSAA, OpenGL though.
Temp stabilizes around 78-80C during Heaven.Attached Files:

I would not run furmark repeatedly on such a platform.

Hey there!
Bumping this subject because I'm having some trouble with the latest driver updates of Nvidia. Latest stable driver AFAIK is 425.31. Anything above such as 430.x or the latest 431.60 will result in DirectX games only using Intel HD Graphics 4000 with no way around.
Things I already checked and tried:
- Proper (usual) install process: DDU to clean everything (even intel drivers), modding file nvcvi.inf, disabled driver signature, multiple reboots, done.
- Retry with different version of drivers
- GTX 1060 showing up in Device Manager, GPU-Z, SpeedFan etc as it should after installing drivers
- Force using GTX 1060 doing the old right-click > Use Nvidia High Performance on .exe (as well as setting it by default in Nvidia Panel and making sure Power Setting are on Max Performance instead of Eco or something)
Any help is welcomed, thanks! -
Hello, i am complete dummy from this thread.. if plug into my p150em graphic card gtx1060m so not work me integrated display or..? I now buy gtx1060m and will install into my laptop. Have windows 10 x64 with uefi and eurocom bios with support for gtx10x0. Thank you for reply.

Most 1060 should work fine with integrated display.
But if you buy the wrong type of card then there is a chance it wont even fit at all, where do you buy this 1060 from?

Short version: Windows 10 fixes the issue.
Long version:
As I said, the latest driver that was partially working (only AAA/DirectX games worked, Java games like Minecraft were running on Intel HD Graphics) was 425.31. Any driver above that resulted with all games running on Intel HD.
Windows 10 wasn't an option because it couldn't support the fairly old 425.31 drivers and therefore faced the same issue as 8.1, only using Intel HD in games...
However, Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 19564 introduced the new Graphics Settings which at first glance seems very similar to the "Use Nvidia High Performance GPU" option. But I gave it the benefits of the doubt and gave a try to Windows 10 latest update 2004 with Nividia 446.14 drivers.
And voila ! My GTX1060 is detected and used in every AAA/DirectX games, even Minecraft Java Edition is working smoothly now. I can rest happy now. -
Just wanted to post that I had to update my drivers today and was able to use the old nvcvi.inf edit and got the newest 452.06 to work. The reason for the update was to enable dvdFab's Enlarger AI to utilize the CUDA core and GPU memory to upconvert an old home video. Happy to stretch the legs of this old laptop just a bit further

You need a standard MXM card in your machine, no wider than the MXM connector.

Hi guys.
After reading all the topic I still have the problem with correct installing GTX1060 card into my P150SM.
1.Secure boot is disabled.
2. I have a standard BIOS (not some Premamod) but heard this is fine for gtx1060.
3. Drivers were cleared with DDU , then new with modded info (384.76) were installed.
4. After new drivers system goes to reboot , Windows10 recognize the card , in device manager can be seen as gtx1060 without any problems , but when i try to play any game then the system crashes , goes into reboot with error43 in device manage.
5 I have a standard PSU - 180w - i guess i dont have to upgrade it.
6. the nV bios on this card is :86.06.2A.00.0B - deviceID 10DE 1C20-1558 5281. I haven't found this bios on techpowerup website.Do you think this vbios might be a problem? And if i have to upgrade vbios - which one do you recommend .
My old card is GTX 970M and it runs without any problems , but the new 1060 makes me mad ! -

Whatever you do with the vbios make sure you take a backup.
-
Also : I found the same card on German Ebay ,and description says it need 230W PSU,otherwise the card will not work. Which PSU do you have? I have 180W PSU and i guess this might cause all the troubles... -

Laptopvideo2go.com have some pre modified files.

already sent back my card do chinese seller for replacement

Well good luck, hopefully you can get a working one.
-
Update:
Got replacement card , had installed it with newest drivers , but card only works with 230 W PSU. I didn't noticed big difference in performance between this one and 970M , so little bit disappointed. -

It's going to depend on resolution and settings. What are thermals like? What about the clocks?

@SMGJohn I noticed on a different thread that you were talking about changing the bios/vbios to someone who had a clevo p150em with a broken 7970m GPU and was looking for a replacement. I am in the same situation. I have a newer and faster desktop, so this isn't "mission critical," I just don't want to throw out the old laptop when it works fine other than the GPU. You also said "Dell cards will not work period."
1) Does that mean that any card labeled "dell alienware..." on ebay will not work in my laptop, even if it also says "clevo" or "p150em" in the description, or even if it is another 7970m?
2) How and what do I have to do with the vbios to get it to recognize a new card? Are there any other changes, configuration-related or otherwise, that I have to do to get it working?
The goal is not to get the best performance that I can at the cost of an intensive process; the goal is just to get it working again at an equivalent or better performance with minimal effort.
A few years ago, I tried installing a " Dell Alienware Msi Sager Clevo GTX 460M 1.5Gb Gddr5 N11E-GS-A1 GPU Graphics card" , but I was unable to get it to work, probably due in part to the fact that I don't really know what I'm doing (the goal back then was to cheaply get my HDMI output working again and just have a working GPU).
Thanks for any help!

1) Yes. Also mobile gtx series 7xx and 8xx will not work in p150em.
2) With gtx 1060 - bios will show you "Empty" in VGA Card" it will be necessary to Modify INF file. But 1060 will work fine.
GTX 1060m - the best but also the most expensive
GTX 9xxm - good but expensive
GTX 6xxm - average and expensive
8970m - optimal
7970m - too old, hard to find for a good money -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
As above and it depends on the current second hand market around your area.
-
1) So to be clear, I need one of the above graphics cards, and I need it to NOT say "Dell" anywhere on it?
2) any good recommendations on where to find such a card? Most of the ones I find say "for dell" somewhere on it.
3) does modifying the INF file work the same way if I swap in a 8970m, or do AMD drivers have a different file that needs to be modified?
4) does Dell lock their GPUs so they can't be used anywhere else or something like that? Why will a Dell card not work?
Thanks for the help!
-Matt -
2) Nvidia Dell cards are fine. You cannot run AMD Dell cards. The Dell 460m you tried is supported as long as you did an .inf mod. I have run a Dell 485m card with no issues.
3) AMD cards do not require .inf mods.
4) See 2 -

You can now modify any set on install. -
Ohhhhhhhhhh. Okay, I understand now. My apologies if those were dumb questions; I admittedly know little to nothing about this stuff. Thank you for clarifying!

The procedure has changed a lot and is not intuitive, so no fret
