That 680M is annoying the hell out of everyone. Please be a Kepler, I beg you!![]()

So NP8150 replacement will have rubberized finish again? I don't like that. But maybe an NP8130 replacement with 670m will be all I need. Would prefer backlit keyboard, but that's not the real deal breaker. Maybe it can be made an option or aftermarket install? The screen, battery life (> 4 hours, preferably 5), and gaming performance are what matter to me.
A = NP8150 (P150HM) replacement?
B = NP8130 (P151HM) replacement?
C = NP8170 (P170HM) replacement?
Will the CPU be severely gimped on battery like Sandy Bridge?
Let's hope there's not another fiasco similar to the SATA controller this time!
CLEVO/SAGER PLEASE entertain an AMD Trinity option when it comes out. I'd love a Sager notebook with an AMD APU, shave a few hundred bucks off the price, and give me a viable gaming machine with iGPU. -
As for Trinity, all depends on if Piledriver has good enough CPU power to be suitable in a 'gaming' machine. The graphics should be good enough for high settings 1366x768 but I'm not sure much else. -
I owned an NP8130 with i7-2630QM and NP8170 with i7-2720QM, and on battery they ran at 800MHz no more, despite setting processor state.
I understand about it only running at 1366x768 with APU, see my benches on the Llano mobile integrated GPU. But on battery it could run at reasonable temperatures and low power consumption.
The current gen Llano APU with a discrete 6750m GPU can run 1080p just fine, all games including Skyrim and BF3 at med/low detail. I can imagine a next gen AMD CPU with a 7950m would be more than adequate, but give you performance with the integrated GPU as needed not to mention improved battery life and asymmetrical Crossfire which uses the integrated and dedicated GPU for even better performance. -
My main question right now is if they're going to allow CPU overclocking in the 150EM.. I believe they only allowed that in the 17" model in the HM series, hopefully they allow it in the BIOS for the 15" this year. That way I could kinda justify buying an XM processor
otherwise I'll likely go with the 3720 because I really don't want a 17" laptop..
-
-
-
only xm cpu can be overlooked?
-
yup, all other cpus already have "built-in" overclocking with turbo boost
-
P150HM didn't support XTU, just the P170HM did.
The new EM's however use a -67 chipset that supports XTU and thus supports extreme edition processor overclocking. -
Ryan, You mean HM77 chipset.
-
Li-Po battery? What's the reason for the switch? Unless it's always been that? I'd prefer Li-Ion, holds more charge. I don't think this thing needs to hold any funky shape or anything, does it, just a brick.
-
This is like waiting for football season to come back!!! Grrrrr release these damn things already!!
-
This is like waiting for blizzard to release diablo 3 LOL
-
-
Updated the OP to clean it up, as well as added a section that I will update as sources provide info to me..
-
Am I reading it wrong that only A and B have the i7 3920xm (from the updated OP)? That doesn't make sense to me.
-
They were copied directly from the manual.. The manual is still only v1.0 and it's not really ready for release yet, so I assume that (along with the many other mistakes) in it will be revised in the coming weeks
-
Like the addition of AMD switchable graphics (we hope).
-
-
-
That's all I've got for now. Let me see if I can get something else from one of my sources...
-
I don't know of any other topic here with the user manual posted, so we really should keep this bumped until the P150EM/P151EM1/P170EM are released and someone can make an owner's lounge for them.
-
No, it is 17", only a little wider than P17, I like its design more than P17.
-
Hold on, does anyone have pics of the design?
-
Nope, no official pics yet..
-
Then how do we know what it looks like? Did some Clevo rep just go, "Ohai we gots laptop that looks like P150EM"?
Another thing, if this is a successor to the P180HM, wouldn't it look like the P180HM and not the P150EM? -
I don't think the 180 did as well as they were hoping.
But yeah, the info I have on it is from Clevo resellers. -
hi guys, i've been trying to look for more info on the P370EM. maybe i missed it, but does anyone know if it's going to come out with a backlit keyboard?
-
It wouldn't make sense for it to be 18" and have it named P370EM. But at the same time, having two 17" with dual GPUs seems like odd product planning.
-
It's 17 inch and will have a backlit Keyboard.
-
And Im interested in it. Hope to find out more in april soon. Pics would be nice!
-
Sorry, no pics yet...
-
My sources say they don't have any additional info they can share at the moment
hopefully we'll get something next Friday.
-
Wait, I thought April 5th was Thursday..?
-
I think he meant more as an end-of-the-week type of thing
-
Ah, I see.
-
You are correct, the 5th is Thursday. But indeed I did mean it as an end of the week thing. I wonder what time on the 5th the NDA's will be lifted..? 12am? Or if things will be gradually released through the day..?
-
I'm really hoping it's 12AM. I canceled a bunch of stuff on Thursday just so I could sit around and stare at config pages and possibly pre-order a P150EM. It would stink if I had to sit around all day with absolutely nothing to do...
-
The manual has a new version out! I don't have much time to go through it, but the direct download link in the 1st post still works so grab a copy if you're interested.
Original Version: V11.1.00
New Version: V12.3.00 -
The download link isn't working for me but I'll try back again later. I have a lot of time to go through it if I'm able to download it.
Thanks for the update, though. -
Hmm, that's where I downloaded my copy. Maybe some others can check to see if it works for them?
-
It's working now. I was on a VPN initially and that may have caused an issue for me.
-
Ok, I went through the new manual and the only big change I noticed was that the GTX 660m is now supported. It's on page D-3 in the specifications. There were some other minor changes I noticed in the table of contents and the section about the wireless networks.
Here is a copy and paste from the section detailing the inclusion of the 660m as well as the other cards:
Models A, B & C:
nVIDIA® GeForce GTX 670M PCIe * 16
Video Card
1.5GB GDDR5 Video RAM On Board
Supports Microsoft DirectX® 11.0
NVIDIA PhysX™
GeForce CUDA™ Technology
NVIDIA® Optimus 1.2 Technology
NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 660M PCIe * 16
Video Card
1GB GDDR5 Video RAM
Supports Microsoft DirectX® 11.0
NVIDIA PhysX™
GeForce CUDA™ Technology
NVIDIA® Optimus 2012 Technology
Models A & B:
nVIDIA® GeForce GTX 675M PCIe * 16
Video Card
2GB GDDR5 Video RAM On Board
Supports Microsoft DirectX® 11.0
NVIDIA PhysX™
GeForce CUDA™ Technology
NVIDIA® Optimus 1.2 Technology
What seems weird to me is why would the 675m only be offered in models A and B? The same goes for the manual showing the 3920xm only being offered in models A and B. This just doesn't seem right. -
Yeah, that's weird. I thought B was the 151em..? Doesn't make sense that the 170em wouldn't support the 675M/3920xm.. Although it said the same thing in the first version as well.
-
i guess its just a mix-up where they were supposed to put the P150EM and P170EM as models A & B. that would sure make much more sense!
cheers -
Yeah I thought the same too. GTX 675m in the NP8131?
-
For some reason, I can't open these manuals.. Could someone tell me if the P150EM has a SATA-III (ODD) or not?
-
I believe the ODD and mSATA bays are SATA-II.
