Both are very good machines and I don't think either one would be a bad choice. I would go with the P870DM2. For $241 you get more flexibility with the second MXM slot and a better cooling system. I think the lid on the P775DM3 is more attractive, but I like everything else about the P870DM2 better. As best I can tell looking at photos and manuals, the P870DM2 looks like it would be a little more user friendly for maintenance. The design of the inside seems better to me.

Either one will be better than what you have now. You can't go wrong with either one IMHO. Either way, I'd say go with HIDevolutoin if you can.

Yes. I would. I will be ordering an EVOC P870DM3, hopefully sometime this week. I spoke with both @Ted@HIDevolution and @Donald@HIDevolution today. I am hoping to be working with @Prema very soon on the BIOS and vBIOS mods.

While the P870DM2 has only one GPU, these photos will give you a look at the inside of the chassis. My personal preference is the roomier interior and avoidance of the unified (CPU+GPU) heat sink.

Although I have not actually seen one, I have heard that the P870DM2 has a heat sink that looks like the P870DM-G 200W 980 heat sink, which is very beastly. Here is an example.

You should consider the 1440p 120Hz display on both of these machines. It's a really awesome option to have. The screen is large enough that you don't have to deal with too much scaling, and games will look crisper and smoother.

I would 100% go with that option.

With HIDevolution, you will get the Prema Bios for your machine, once they are released to Prema partners. With those Bios, you can squeeze the maximum amount of performance out of your DTR.

You don't have to contact them about the Prema Bios. Once the Prema Bios are ready, I am sure HIDevolution will send you notice that they are ready for download. Regrettably, I didn't choose HIDevolution for my P870DM3, but @Donald@HIDevolution has amazing customer service and if you have any questions/concerns, he will be sure to answer them!

The Prema Custom BIOS and vBIOS are being developed. Since the video cards are new, he has to write a new BIOS and vBIOS. We will reach out to you once the Prema BIOS and vBIOS are finished to remotely flash them for you. We can do this anywhere in the world.

The features of the Prema Custom BIOS and vBIOS will allow you to have much better performance, good control of your fans producing better cooling, will help with battery life, and will really optimize your EVOC P870DM2.

Where are you located @Panikatak ??

Mr. Fox I know your a busy man but I was hoping to pick your brain for a minute. you're getting a new p870dm3. Can I ask what convinced you to? Are you no longer afraid of losing future upgrade ability. I've been on the fence between moving to clevo or building a desktop. I'm still rocking my m17xr2 with cf 7970m. It's now on its last legs so am going to have to make the move one way or the other. Anyways your opinion is always appreciated

Thank you. I appreciate knowing that you value my opinion. That means a lot to me, and so does being able to assist my friends in Communities like NBR and Tech|Inferno.

I came within a proverbial centimeter of abandoning high performance notebooks completely because of the changes in mobile GPU design that are blocking upgrades on current generation hardware that is less than a year old. I was and still am very angry and put off by that butt-head move. As most people already know, I have no intention of ever accepting BGA filth being used on expensive notebooks that are falsely marketed as high performance. They are disposable garbage and should have a price tag that reflects that they are. There is no legitimate excuse for any OEM to use BGA feces in any large gaming notebooks or DTRs. That they do is unforgivable and it should not go unpunished.

While I am passionate and don't mind expressing my displeasure in public, I am also realistic and rational. I understand that our demands are very high and we cannot get enough power and performance. There is no such thing as too much to us. And, while I hate change when it occurs only for the sake of achieving change, I totally understand that to get what we want something had to change. The old and faithful MXM form factor has taken us as far as it could. A larger PCB was necessary to hold the parts and a supplemental source of power was needed due to the limitations of the MXM slot. I know this had to happen sooner or later, and it was unfortunate that my timing sucked when I purchased the amazing P870DM-G. I don't think I could have timed that any worse had I tried to. That part was my fault. And, I think it sucks majorly that Clevo didn't use the PCB dimensions they already had in the 180W and 200W GTX 980 cards. They did not and that is their fault. They could have made Pascal fit on those two large Maxwell PCBs. 1070 and 1080 could have and would have worked without yet another change in form factor. I'm still not done being pissed off about that part. But, life goes on. When we get lemons, we squeeze lemonade. Right? Things could be worse.

I decided to purchase a P870DM3 from HIDevolution instead of building a desktop for the following excellent reason(s):
    • I absolutely despise the idea of being tethered to a desk (but not as much as I despise BGA)
    • It is the only model available anywhere with potential to meet my expectations as a high performance DTR
    • I want to see the only Über-Beast notebook available remain successful in a world dominated by BGA trash
    • I enjoy working with @Prema on the firmware mods and want to do my part on helping to achieve the above bullet-point
    • I want to contribute to the success of HIDevolution as a PremaMod partner specifically, as well as all other PremaMod partners
Now, having said all that, if they change things again and the next few generations of MXM cards will not fit in the P870DM3 for upgrades I will be back to where I was with the P870DM-G. I will be livid once again, but there will be no second round of forgiveness and no more third chances for the sellers of high performance laptops to redeem themselves. It they screw us again like this I will be done. This new form factor variation of MXM needs to last us for as close to as long as the last MXM form factor standard did or I will be going back to desktops for good. I won't be playing games designed primarily for the purpose of defrauding me as a customer and enriching the OEMs by blocking upgrades.

I have been in touch with @Ted@HIDevolution and @Donald@HIDevolution twice in the last two days and I hope to be rocking a P870DM3 by this time next week, and helping @Prema with the firmware mods. Let the good times roll.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. It helps a lot. To be honest I'm still worried about losing the ability to upgrade in the future. I agree fully with avoiding any and all bga so that cuts the options down. Hard not worrying about getting burned but I guess nothing will put me at ease in that regard as we will never know what they have planned in the future

Me too. But, we cannot be paralyzed by fear. We can put our trust in God, but never in big business or government to do the right thing. We can learn from bad experiences and use the fear of the past to stay vigilant, be alert and avoid repeating the same mistakes if things turn south on us a second time. I know Clevo and MSI saw and heard the fallout from their bad choices. So, they get one more chance. I hope they don't blow it.

I'm definitely getting the 1080 SLI, but even single 1080 in a P870DM2 will be wicked.

It seems like they changed the configuration around. So not to confuse you any further, get the P870DM3 with a single 1080 at this link: http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p870dm3-dual-gtx-1080.html

When you submit your order, contact them by phone or even e-mail, whatever your preference and ask them for the optional Vapor Chamber. It's going to cost a little more, but you will get a cooler machine overall. You will also be partly setup for SLI if you ever want to upgrade to a second 1080 if you get the vapor chamber now. You will have a killer DTR at that point.

If you want any more information, I would contact Donald at HIDevolution. He will definitely work with you step by step until all of your concerns are solved and help you build the perfect machine for your budget!

That sucks but what I am really hoping from you guys is having free 1 year global warranty like the US. I live in Canada and it adds like 200 bucks. That is my problem right now since it breaks my budget and getting expensive with just basic upgrades.

I tried Eurocom but the price is somewhat the same once I factor in everything.

The Global warranty is the same as the US warranty, except it covers shipping both ways for up to two incidents a year. You live in Canada...so don't get the Global Warranty and just pay for shipping in the unlikely event you have to send it in for warranty repair.

How much would that be for both ways? In the worst case scenario being the whole laptop needed to be sent back? An estimate would be nice. I live in BC.

Shipping cost is based on size of box, weight, insurance and which shipping method you choose. Unfortunately I cannot estimate it without your address, but you can go to either UPS or FedEx website and put your details in, and it will show you their cost...or you can configure what you want and put it into your Shopping Cart, register your account, and then it will show you OUR cost, which will be much less. Should you have to send it back for warranty repair, we would send you a FedEx label at OUR cost and just add it to the return shipping cost and invoice you for it. It is much cheaper that way than paying FedEx directly yourself.

We have a flat fee to upgrade our standard 2 year warranty for Canada so there is no concern about shipping costs over the entire term :)

We have a flat fee too...but not paying it just means the user pays the shipping cost. It is a "pay me now" and don't worry about shipping cost, or "only pay for shipping if you need it"... most people never do.

All Clevo builders will have the same 3K screen available as soon as they arrive...it should be within about a week.
