    Hello,

I was just curious to see if there will be any support for upgrading the 1080 to the 2080 once it makes its way around to the mobile side.

    Just wondering is all.

    Thanks to all in advance!

Since nothing has been officially seen yet on what might happen with cards it's too early for this kind of discussion.

More than likely, Clevo will likely try changing the chassis as little as possible for 9900K and 2080 as its cheaper than a redesign.

Take a look at this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ix-gets-an-8700k-and-gtx-1080-upgrade.814711/

    Specifically, consider this:

"The front frame has to be trimmed due to the massive Clevo GTX 1080 form factor. One of the stand-offs for the retainer screws has to be removed from the metal bracket. A stand-off underneath the GPU (attached to the palm rest) has to be chopped off so the GPU can lay flat in the chassis."

    "Custom Heat Sink"

These are just examples of mods you could make to upgrade from older models (DM3 in this case). These mods are not available out of the box nor with necessary BIOS updates.

If the 2080 specs match up closely with those of the 1080, including thermal load, plug and play may work. With DTRs, we need to keep in mind they aren't as upgradeable as desktops.

considering how the MXM form factor is being made nowadays I'd not use the term "more than likely", manufacturers are clearly making it harder and harder to upgrade. Look at the crap mr.fox had to go through to get clevo GTX 1080 working on his P870DM.

I'm very skeptical with regard to the power and cooling required for a 9900K + 2800RTX combo if the chassis remains the same.

from a technical standpoint its not a big deal, considering the 1080 sli machines, thats a total of 180+180+95 w tdp with the cpu = 455 w nominal tdp. surely doable with one rtx2080 and a 9900k.

Unless they change the form factor again the 2080 should be compatible, but who knows what they will do for sure. It depends on the cost of designing a new motherboard/cooling against how much they would make from selling new machines.

A lot of it will depend on the recommended memory layout from Nvidia as to the physical layout.

Was there any VBIOS issues that you needed to do, or did it work with inserting the MXM GPU in and applying your hardware mod, no software changes needed?
