    @Mr. Fox
Maybe you could start a donation fund. I'd happily chip in to fund for an 8700k if it'll help research on viability of z170 chipset motherboard in p870dm/p870dm3.

Indeed. I definitely agree with that.

Great idea. I might do that. I am going to start a new thread soon to capture and share all of the mods. Maybe next week.

@Prema has Legacy BIOS working again now, so things are moving in the right direction and I am dual-booting again.

From what I am gathering the 8700k upgrade isn't supported by the normal prema bios I get from HID. You guys had to do further mods to the bios to achieve this? I'm just curious if it is actually possible to get a 8086k running in my dm-3. I'm pretty competent performing hardware mods but I stuck at coding. I know this is a the original DM you were working on, but I would assume the dm3 being z170 would make it compatible as well. Would it just make more sense to use a tm motherboard in it instead? I think I read it would fit with a bit of moding to the chassis.

Yes standard premabios specific to DM3 (which I have) is not enough.

Premamod with 8700K/8086K ucode works in DM, DM3, and KM. But.... not available to anyone outside of his testers (damn you "legal reasons")

Other modded BIOS is available see here
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...skylake-kabylake-clevo-lga1151-laptops.821694

As to whether TM mobo fits and works - this thread and my research was done before the idea of the bios mod for coffee lake on z170/270 was a thing which I think killed the mobo swap idea

I see. How does this bios stack up against prema bios? Would dumping my prema bios and patching it with the ucode from this bios unlock the socket? Is my gut fealing that it's a bad idea correct (I assume I would find reference to some one having already done it if it was a good idea. Too obvious).

It appears the link from bennyg is concerning dsanke's bios so that should be sufficient to obtain them. I appreciate the help though.

It's more of a standard BIOS that also accepts the newer CPUs AFAIK.

update on the KM to TM upgrade: touchpad will not work, laptop will not boot with click board from KM or DM2/3, need new one:

    so actual list is:

    1. motherboard
    2. power LED board
    3. TP Click board
    4. CPU heatsink, older heatsink will not fit without bracket swap on the Mobo
    5. LCD version compatible with TM gsync list for gsync, for 75hz LG it is revision F5

    Hello,

I am piecing together the parts for a DM to TM/1 Upgrade, I have pretty much everything I need. Is the audio board from a DM compatible with the TM motherboard? If not, that is the last part I need for the upgrade.

Wasn't the P870 audio board only different going from the first generation (DM-G) to second generation (DM-3)?

There were guides for earlier steps like dm -> dm3 or KM so worth searching out and cross referencing.

Alright, I have all of the components together minus a GPU, which I am about to purchase. I just have a quick question before I purchase one. Will a GPU (1070 or 1080) out of a P870DM2/3 or a P870KM boot in a P870TM? I know the cards are physically the same, but from what I have read, it seems the vBios may be different? I just want to make sure the card I purchase will boot, as I do not have a spare machine to flash vBios or an external flasher.

As always, thanks for the help guys!

Dang, that’s what I’m afraid of. I found a good deal on a used 1070, so I may just have to buy an external flasher and soic clip to flash it.

OP updated with general information and links to the workarounds that IMO render the upgrade to a TM motherboard unnecessary :)

I thinking about this upgrade. Last issue is TP click board +power led board. Are you sure that these from KM would not work?
