Welcome to NBR fourms![]()
@XMG
@Alex
Your results are great
1 I7 8750h never crossing 80 in witcher 3 ? Amazing results. Worse than the GS65 but still damn impressive
2 . Your GPU is getting ~1300mhz stock and ~1500mhz overclocked(in games, in heaven it power throttled to 1300mhz even with th oc aka confirming an 80w hard power limit gimp). Your GPU is working as intended for the 1070MQ
3 your PSU is holding up too. Which is surprising
Overall much better than the Q6 and good job, @GenTechPC
You have a genuinely great machine in your hands.

Just posting some data I have from my 150W P950ER from Gentech, LM for both GPU and CPU. I've been busy lately and haven't gotten a chance to run many tests. Let me know if there's any more info that might be useful.
PS Noob question: how do you upload images as attachments in this forum?
Highest Valley results: -140mV undervolt on CPU, OC'd GPU 230MHz Core, 300 MHz mem
Highest Firestrike results: -140mV undervolt on CPU, OC'd GPU 236MHz Core, 305 MHz mem
Aida 64 + Furmark, -135mV undervolt on CPU
-
Amazing results. 15.8k in firestrike graphics is incredible for an 80w 1070MQ. You closed the 1070 VS 1070MQ 80W gap from 18% to 8%

You won the silicon lottery for the 80W 1070MQ(avreage OC'ed is 15.7k in the GS65 and 15K in the Sager P95XER).
The overwhelming majority of people with the 80w won't get 16k. So you're lucky there
Doesn't mean you are faster than the 90w card through

The panel uses 5.4W (Typical), but that's not the issue - just for information. Generally you can pull more power than the official rating of a PSU, there's usually 5% - 10% leeway but then of course you have to take into account where you are measing the power draw from and other factors which I won't both going into details now. The question is of course, is the 150W PSU limiting the performance - well in order to answer that I asked our R&D on Friday to take a closer look and evaluate the topic. It's not something I can answer as I don't test the machines, I only have access to raw data. I'm not saying that they didn't test thoroughly enough to start with, but as you know there are many variables to take into account and until I have something solid to report I'd rather let the guys delve deeper first

High... 40s... keyboard. Wow.
That thing is struggling so hard with a 7700HQ and the maxQ version is still almost dying.
@aIex Let me guess, conincidence? We just happen to find bad reviews right? :s -
I was talking about the clock speed. Never crossed 1300mhz even with overclocking accroding to the guy
It's so gutted it's trading blows with 1060
-
What do you mean trading blows? it's getting annihilated in CS:GO.
Also I tried to talk to the reddit guy and make him to a screenshot of the actual clockspeed in witcher 3.
https://imgur.com/a/FoJB3fY
This is absolutely useless since it doesn't show the load in witcher 3, but after he tabbed out of the game. I wrote the guy couple of messages and he always dodged me in making an actual overlay while playing witcher 3. His last message boiled down to, "I'm to lazy". So yeah... take that I guess... -
Its 5% "faster" winning slightly in every game while
getting destroyed in overwatch and CSGO.
The guy on reddit had a 1291mhz average on unigine heaven when OC'ed.
the picture you provided isnt that impressive considering the guy OCed the card. but you can see through the average load it was stressed. but 1381mhz when OC'ed is slower than a stock razer blade(1544mhz) or a stock aero15x(1480mhz) and slightly faster than a stock GS65(1316 mhz).
OC'ed average 3DMark Graphics performance :
-
It's a picture from the guy on reddit who posted here. I suspect that the 1.3ghz isnt even the clockspeed when running in witcher3 and playing but rather when tabbing out of looking ingame at the inventory, map etc.
-
1.3ghz OC'ed and 1.2ghz stock are gutted 1070MQ clocks , not good ones.
Stock razer 15.6k
OC'ed P955ER avreage 15k -
Relax, I'll do it when I get home from work in 8-9 hours from now.oSChakal likes this.

You're max-Q 1070 is performing exactly like the GS65 1070MQ. The picture you posted alone confirms that. I can't see a need for an ingame overlay.
The issue is that the majority of time the 1070MQ in this laptop is performing badly and lower than yours. It all depends on the Vbios (which is btw, made by the resellers). Some resellers(most of them) gut the card to get a slightly quieter laptop under load. -
It really doesn't You can not see on that screen how it's performing at all.
-
You can see an average clocks speed of 1381mhz.
The bad clevos average ~1250 like in that polish reviewLast edited: Jun 15, 2018 -
Because everyone just puts his hands on the keyboard on full synthetic loads. No temp measurements for gaming load. I don't see Metabox offering repasting after Clevo toothpaste job. So yeah, I must admit, it's a ****ty Metabox laptop.oSChakal likes this.

If the laptop needs LM to be decent you're doing it wrong. Some resellers fix this by including free LM( @GenTechPC )
Hopefully the P960 includes better cooling + battery.
Metabox + Eurocom + hyperlink are now on the **** list.GenTechPC likes this. -
Book. Hyperbook. I'm not saying LM. I'm saying thermal paste, even Arctic MX-4, instead of clevo's garbage. But given the Hyperbook laptop review it looks like P95X sucks when it comes to thermals after all.
-
It was built under the assumption of LM which is why it sucks.

There are your clocks in game with more info on the second monitor. I don't know why you're so particular with needing it in game when average clocks show it just fine or why you feel like I'm lying since I've been gaming on this for the last week or two with temp and clock monitors on a second screen. This is the OC but decreasing clocks should have similar outcomes with lower clocks/temps. The screens are a bit blurry since I used the screenshot button but I feel like I've shown that my laptop is running similar to a GS65 in terms of speeds.
The issue I'm seeing with the clevo's is QA when buying the laptop. My unit performs as expected and I'll leave it at that. If your laptop is underperforming either return it and try again or get another laptop. I got mine for 1600 compared to the similar GS65 model from best buy which would have been 2000 which is going toward my other hobbies. The only difference being a smaller battery but with a 2.5 drive bay between the two laptops as far as large differences are.oSChakal likes this. -
these just reconfirm what you already posted. It's performing like a GS65.
Enjoy you're laptop. you seem to have a very good machine in your hands.OMGIMASIAN likes this. -

Out of curiosity, what settings are those? (witcher 3)
Interested to know as well, ahmad pretty much summed it up. -
To be honest, if I had to choose between P95X and GS65, it would be the golden GS65, as it doesn't look like "NO1 ULTRA MEGA GAMING MACHINEE1111!!". Or the Tongfang. There're no reviews yet, but it looks interesting.

Regardless of the merits of any Clevo product Danish will recommend even unreleased products that are not tested or other brands. It seems to be a bit of a mission of his.oSChakal, yrekabakery and Papusan like this. -
Before I get flamed here
, please note that we DO NOT sell this laptop as a gaming laptop. It's in the SCHENKER sub brand portfolio which is business systems (in fact the KEY 15 makes an extremely good mobile VR laptop amongst other things). We have 1060 version in the XMG gaming product portfolio, but not the 1070 MAX-Q specifically because MAX-Q doesn't fit in with what the XMG brand stands for in terms of performance and component selection.
You'll notice that this ^^^^ has a 180W PSU, 1060 has 150W. -
hey guys. I'm new and might be able to add some new info to this heated discussion.
recently ordered the "defiance xs ii" form pc-specialist, which is a i7-8750h, 1070mq clevo p950 build. so i was searching for any useful reviews.
German NBC Review:
Apart of the already listed if found a german review from the german version of nbc ( https://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Schenker-Key-15-Clevo-P955ER-Laptop.308452.0.html). The build tested is equal to Q6 in the sense that it is also the "i7-8750h, 1070mq clevo p955er". I might be wrong, but as far as i know the brand Schenker and the brand XMG belong to the same company, only that Schenker is more marketed towards businesses and XMG towards gamers. So the build could be quite similar to the version XMG is selling.
Unfortunately NBC doesn't state whether it's the 150w or 180w power supply BUT on the selling page ( https://www.mysn.de/schenker-key-laptops/key-15-m18) it states that the 1060 version is sold with 150w, and the 1070mq with 180w. Together with the stated weight of the power supply at nbc of 484g it might actually be the 180w version.
Results:
Unfortunately the gpu performance results seem to be even worse than for the Q6. GPU got throttled to 924MHz at the witcher 3 (Ultra@Full HD). Even worse than for Q6, the framerate dropped from 50 to around 35. However, it should be noted that they used the Max-Q Fan pre-settings in the Clevo Control Panel. That may lead to insufficient cooling and premature throttling.
In another thread (unfortunately i can't find it anymore) I read that the P950 seems to handle heat development slightly better. So far i haven't seen a review of 8th gen i7 with the P950 clevo build. Can anyone confirm that P950 outperforms the P955 in this regard? -
Ultra Settings at 1080p, I turn off motion blur but that's about it.
-
this is what I'm talking about. Clevo-based laptops' performance is heavily depending on the reseller. It's easy to take Clevo from the ****tiest reseller available and say "all Clevo sucks".Dennismungai likes this.

Time to fire your internal testing squad. This is why I said I don't care about your words, but about actual proof.
The pathethic part is, that your notebook, performs even worse than Eurocom.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 16, 2018 -
Took the clocks for granted. My bad.
-
I don't know how Notebookcheck benchmarked the Q6, because some of their results, such as the claim you made above concerning its' core clock, is outright wrong.
Take a look at this:
I have been playing Witcher 3 (the blood and wine expansion, mostly) and the core clock in this game across all graphical settings has been at least ~1300Mhz under load. That short benchmark above confirms this.
I will rerun every benchmark that notebookcheck has made for this particular model and compare these stats to my own, but as things stand, some of their scores are skewed. An observation that @XMG made in the previous thread. -
You're the one doing it wrong. They did the stresstest by settings witcher 3 on the highest possible settings in novigrad to illustrate how high end games would affect the performance. Also as you have showcased with your own video, the longer you play, the worse the performance gets. At the beginning you had high 1.3xx clocks, it went down to high 12xx at the end. If you would max your settings and go into novigrad for around 10-15minutes, your clockspeed looks VERY different due to your GPU is being used a LOT more and your CPU as well.
-
I'll move to Novigrad and do exactly that, then play the game for about 40 minutes and record the gameplay.
-
180w power adapter ?
The gpu is power throttling. Aka the power supply is forcing it to downclock because it can't keep up, this will only happen when the Q6 cpu and gpu are both scrapping the barrel for power. -
No, 150W.
-
Maybe it's a bios issue than. The result was replicated twice from two different resellers. Assume that every single new p955er out there will throttle this badly unless fixed and verified by a professional review(not @XMG Internal testing squad). I would personally rather people who bought this laptop not be suprised by such pathetic performance. As you should release a 1070MQ at 920mhz and 6Gbps is slower than a gtx 1060MQ which I would argue is "noticeable".
There must be some answer to what is going on ! . The GS65 during the same test held 1316mhz study.Last edited: Jun 16, 2018 -
I can see that System76's Oryx Pro https://system76.com/cart/configure/oryp4 also defaults to a 180W PSU with a 1070 on board.
If someone here has access to that model, run benchmarks. -
So erhm, any updates on this?
