I've got a question and apologies if this was posted already, is it possible to use a custom BIOS to enable/disable the chip's TPM for use with Bitlocker under Windows 7? I'm under the impression that the chip itself should support this but it's disabled in the BIOS.

Awesome, if you can get that to something I can toggle I'll get over my reticence/fear with using a custom BIOS and jump right in. I'd love to be able to turn on BitLocker on this machine; I'm coming from an 11" MacBook Air and FileVault 2 was a big relief.

OK, the W110ER has no TPM chip. I have enabled all TPM options, but nothing shows in Device Manager or Bitlocker.

To set up BitLocker to use a USB key instead:

1.Open the Local Group Policy editor (gpedit.msc) as administrator.

2.Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > BitLocker Drive Encryption

3.Double-click Require additional authentication at startup.

    4.Check the Enabled radio button.

5.Check the Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM checkbox.

That sucks, I was under the impression that pretty much every processor since 2006 includes one. :( I know about the USB key route, but that requires having one plugged in every time I turn the computer on. :\

Ah well, thank you for the attempt anyway.

If present it is not in the cpu, but on the mainbord, afaik.

    Just ran a small test on 2400Mhz / 1.35v?! :

2667Mhz doesn't boot on 1.35v. Will write some XMP with 1.5v and 2667Mhz and do more tests, once I find more time. :)

Wow. Prema mod looks pretty damn awesome, how safe is it? Is there any problem or running the hardware at the non-recommend manufacturer settings?

No problems whatsoever. Just overclocking RAM, iGPU, can lead to freezes or odd behavior.

hi - just joine,d first post here, be gentle!! :)

have a w110er on order, i'm based in UK, ordering from a company called PC Specialist. Gone for i5-3360 dual core, 90 GB Kigston Hyper-X 3k SSD. i have a couple of spare 1333 mhz ram sticks that i'll start with, then will get 8 gb of 1600 mhz ram for my birthday in september. i was going to get corsair vengence ram, but do you think that will overclock as well as the samsung you guys are running? or even better? let me know - once i get the machine, will change the bios to the excellent one (by all reports) by PREMA and overclock the RAM as high as i can....

    thoughts guys?

    Thanks

    Si

Congrats on your system and welcome to the Forums! :)

Neither the Corsair nor the Kingston native 1866Mhz RAM can do the 2400Mhz on 1.5v that the 1600Mhz Samsung hit on 1.35v. (I own the Kingston, too)

This is the RAM that we all torture:

People shy away from that RAM usually becuse it's advertised as DDR3 1600 CAS 11 but what they don't realize it's CAS 11 all the way to 2133MHz. :p

so, you guys think the best option would be the samsung in preference to the corsair? i will be looking to go to the 2133 mhz once i get the machine, hoping i should have it in 2 weeks or so.

interested how you guys are all going for quads, here in UK the general advice is to go with duals and higher speed. i'm hay anyway, i5-3360 will suit me just fine :)

looking forward to having a little play with it once i get it, being able to improve things with your bios is a real bonus....many thanks to you and htwing for being the clever guys!!!!! ;)

hmmmm doesn't look like i can get the samsung 4 gb sticks in the uk....i've got their 2 gb 1333 mhz sticks in my current thinkpad, always behaved well. if i cant get that, what do you think would be the best option? the hyper-x even was struggling?

What benefits does overclocking the RAM have? Does the modded BIOS also allow the HD4000 to run at full speed on battery, so the RAM will boost gaming performance?

HD 4000 can be run at full speed if you disable speed step, which requires Prema's BIOS. RAM will help with HD 4000 gaming too. It also ends makes the system a bit more responsive in general.

Would disabling SpeedStep lock the CPU at the lowest multiplier, or the highest?

Have you done any cooling mod yet Prema, or do you plan to? If you do, curious to see what you can manage. My fan mod helps only a few deg C at load, but at idle it drops it to 45C. I wanted more help at load because at idle I typically turn the fan off.

I got a bunch of copper RAM cooler and will pick up an extra bottom plate from Tom@mysn while leaving europe.
I thought about it a lot...I am just going to place a fanguard above the CPU heatsink and place the Cooler Master U1 fan below, whenever required.

That score is fantastic! Congrats Prema!

In other news, I've been using the 2133Mhz memory OC with the new timings (11-12-11-2T), and it was stable for about 1 week (more than twice as long as before), but in the end, I got the artifacts again yesterday under standard use and gaming. Which timing do you think I can loosen a bit more for that? :X

Just saw the updated score.. 3137... INSANE! 670M gets 3029 on average, so I'm amazed you can get performance of a graphics card two tiers ahead on a 11 inch machine!

    My settings are:
    throttlestop to disable CPU throttle
Memory ram OC to 2133 with 12-11-11-2T
GPU ram OC to +220mhz and clock OC to +135mhz
    Nvidia beta 304.22 drivers

Were these the settings you used? Apart from your BIOS mods, is there anything else you did? Pray tell! :)

We pushed the OC limit of the GPU...

@EVERYONE: I require some help. Could you tell me your Max. stable video RAM overclock before you get artifacts, driver crashes etc. during benchmarks.

It should be between 1050 and 1150 Mhz...

I need to find a stable sweetspot that works for all of you.

Use Prema's BIOS mod. In the BIOS you will only have the options for 1333, 1600, 1866, 2133, or 2400MHz. Then adjust your timings accordingly until you don't crash any more. If you can't get it stable at a certain speed then you'll have to drop down the previous speed. Otherwise there are tools to flash your RAM to different speeds but it's a bit complicated. There are no options for increasing RAM voltage that I am aware of unfortunately. That could likely offer stability at 2400MHz no matter what. :D

It shows that But haven't been able to really validate if it does anything. I tried to run 1.35v at 1.50v and 1.50v RAM at 1.35V with no success.

SO far my Vram OC at 220mhz is doing fine.

However - 12-11-11-2T on the memory OC failed again today. It's a holiday so I spent a few hours of more demanding gaming, and it artifacted after ~3 hours of straight gaming.

I'm trying 12-12-11-2T, but is there a better timing you recommend?

Each laptop/RAM module is different, so it would depend on your individual configuration. Best bet is to keep bumping up the timings like you've done.

Please use /memtest 86+ to validate the stabillity of your RAM. Use the bootable flashdrive version.

As for the artifacts...I guess they come from the vRAM OC and not your RAM. ;)

Hi Prema, it says on the Clevo website that it has Intel Anti-Theft Technology
As far as I can tell, this requires enabled chipset, BIOS, an IB cpu, a service subscription and of course, intel software.

Did you see any evidence that the BIOS actually has this tech inside ?
I don't trust the specs
