I agree with you on everything u said above, which I didn't post on this quotation.
But I didn't said it had 3x times more battery life, I said almost 3x times more. The review is from notebookcheck to Clevo W110ER, and that's the maximum time they could get it, and was with Wlan off, minimum brightness... (4h:24 on idle) 3x times that equals to 13h:12. So since the alienware can last for around 13h, it's really almost 3x times more batery life.
I was also waiting for better economy, since although there's lot of difference between the alien CPU + GPU to clevo higher watt CPU and GPU, BUT they always also improve power saving on idle, so I was waiting for both to kinda equalize...
If they are wrong or not I don't know, that's what they reported, and they also compared it with "Acer's Aspire 5750G" don't know why...
But it's bad the fact that they compare it to even a monster 17 inches Acer's Aspire V3 which they say it has similiar hardware, and even this huge laptop which even have a considerable lower battery capacity than Clevo W110ER, can even last a bit longer. Which is pretty sad a very little 11.1 laptop eating even more than a monster 17 inches jeez.
Again I don't care about battery, but usually people that go for those kind of high portability laptops mostly need like around 7h of battery life, so they tend to care a lot for the batery. While someone that goes for a monster 17 inches and even the extreme gaming ones, no one care about battery, because it never lasts much. (it's two very different uses for each PC).
What... OMG, is that on a W110ER?
What are u using for those consumptions? Latest modded BIOS?
Humm, is that intel drivers? or is that a new release of your BIOS MOD?
Thanks anyway, I wish my laptop was already here jeez.
Keep Cool

Took the plunge and updated to Prema Mod 1.4. No odd noises coming from the laptop so far, and BatteryBar reports my power usage as ~10 watts idle, ~12 when downloading a file. Much better than the ~14-15 consumed previously doing the same task.
Now, to image the system and see if I can get the 305.53 nVidia drivers to work properly... -
Here the fixed ME update. Tested and uploaded by HTWingnut:
W110ER_ME.zip
Password: thanksprema
The W110ER ME update flashes to an extra 2MB chip on the motherboard and supports the new BIOS 04 and Prema Mod 1.4. Everybody with those BIOS should also install this ME update!
A successful flash looks like this:
-
Running quiet mode web browser test tonight.
-
Can I do the ME flash if I have already flashed 1.4?
-
How much difference in power consumption does this ME update make?
Is there any similar update for w150/170er?
btw, already did some tests with bios 1.00.07 (prema 1.3) and last 306.02 drivers:
-2h55m with brightness 2 step above minimum, wlan on, torrent on background, writing documents, surfing net and hearing music with headphones.
-3h20m with brightness 1 step above minimum, wlan on and also writing some docs, viewing pdfs and surfing net.
Previously I would get ~3h just surfing net at minimum brightness, so there is a definite improvement  -
I flashed the ME Update and I already had 1.4 Installed, so far I haven't noticed anything. I need to mess around with more drivers first. I just downgraded my nvidia drivers to Clevos stock ones. Then I'l upgrade to Premas recommended one.
-
I started my browser test, my estimation puts it at ~ 6 hours on my W110ER.
I'll find out for certain tomorrow morning.
-
I can't wait to see what you get! If you are actually going to get around 6 hours that will settle my decision to do a full wipe of my W110ER. This is my everyday computer from being a sysadmin to playing late night BF3 and it would take roughly 3-4 hours to set everything back up which I don't mind but I love a challenge of getting it working on my current OS setup. My Hotkey also throws a bunch of errors when loaded so maybe a full wipe is in order anyways!
What exactly are you using for your browser test?
Let us know which drivers you used for the Intel HD and the nVidia card for your tests
-
But what's this ME? Like a Bios plugin or something.
And if I had like official clevo 1.4 bios could I still flash with this me?
Keep Cool -
I'm still getting 11-12 watts power draw with 305.53 vs less than 10 at idle with the stock Clevo drivers. You're using 305.53, right?
-
I have the np 6165 and flashed prema mod 1.2 sometime ago. Everything worked fine until now. I used stock settings didn't change anything in the bios. I got a bsod and the beeping sound while closing the lid and now i cant power on the laptop at all. The power and battery lights turn in but the computer never turns on. No fan spinning, no hdd, lcd off. I tried taking out the cmos battery for 1 minute then putting it back in, no luck. Is there a way i can revive my laptop, flash a stock bios?
-
Prema, your work is amazing and I appreciate every bit of it. The only thing that I want changed from the bios mod would be the background of the flower of life. If it was a logo of the flower of life in black or white with a black or white background I would greatly appreciate that. The blue is just too much for me, sometimes I start my laptop up at night and the colours just throw off my eyes. ..
If it is possible, please let me know.
-
Yeah I am wondering, what is the ME patch?
I am on the offical 1.4 bios right now, do we still need to patch it?
Thanks in advance! -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is an Intel kind of BIOS, who's accessed by Intel MEI drivers, to help communicate with some mainboard components, as sensors, fans, power switches maybe ? I'm not really sure if it really is useful, as everything seemed to be possible already, before they started to introduce these..
Anyway Prema, I agree it needs some clarification, those who have already flashed stock 0.4 BIOS should not need this right ?
Or did you get it another way ?
If you can't acknowledge the input given here, what are you doing here in the first place ?
Mmmmh.... then I'd suggest you watch this: Bob Marley-Don't worry be happy - YouTube
Yep, read the last page(s), there's a recovery procedure, must boot up with a usb key prepared with BIOS files, while holding FN+B if I remember well. -
The ME firmware communicates with the BIOS. It is an essential part and without it the system wouldn't even be able to boot. Other manufacteres like Asus provide ME updates along with their BIOS. For Clevo this is new. They never gave us an official ME update over the whole lifetime of the HM series.
i.e Mythlogic applies ME updates to all their systems in house. Only they use the latest one directly from Intel.
That sounds more like a component (like CPU, RAM or the board) has died...
Test it with each RAM stick separate and maybe also remove the SSD/HDD and see if it comes back on. You may also try to remove the battery and test only with PSU.
Good luck! -
Yes. Total time ended up being only 5 hours exact. Strange. But it is what it is I guess.
I don't want to sound condescending but are you serious? It's on all of 3 seconds when you boot. Close your eyes and turn your head after you hit the power button. You can also turn off the boot logo, just turn it off and you'll get a black screen at startup. Problem solved. -
I have to admit, I have never tried the stock drivers...
-
Hey Prema,
So that ME has something to do with Intel chipset?
So even If I had 1.04 official update from Clevo, It's always recommended to also update this ME, right?
Also do you know if the BIOS chip is already full? Isn't there any clevo with new 3D Bios style?
I haven't read 42 pages on this thread. Also I'm new here, so I'm seeing first posts that the laptop now lasts around 6h on some late posts on this thread...
damnit, so u got even less battery after me update?
About the startup image, I think most people are even so amazed with prema's bios that they don't even care for startup
. I also wouldn't care for the picture.
But I think he can change it with phoenix bios editor or other bios hacking programs, but he can risk bricking the laptop for NOTHING.
Keep Cool -
....Bump...

No, I had estimated 6 hours, but it ended up being 5 hours to the minute.
-
Hey, I am currently running Prema Mod v1.1 on my W150er.
I would like to upgrade to v1.4 but I have two questions though:
1- Has the coil wine been reported on the W150er or is just just a W110 problem?
2-Can anyone with 1.4 and a W150ER confirm or deny if the new EC causes the fans to not spin down?
I don't want to update if this causes the fans to not spin down when the laptop is idle. -
There is no v1.4 for W150ER...
-
Hum there is no 1.4 for W150ER just 1.3, new fan table is no problem u still can't hear it when idle. In fact it seems improved, the fan is less erratic when the lap is loaded in my opinion. And the wine doesn't concern W150ER i guess cause i'm on prema 1.3 and there's no such thing. I believe it's onlya W110 issue cause last clevo bios has lowered power consumption thus the wine. Power consumption is still the same on W150ER/W170ER.
-
Sorry I meant 1.3. Going to flash now, I really do hope that the fan is ok.
Always feel a bit nervous before a flash, so wish me luck! -
The latest Prema bios for w150er is v1.3. As far I know none of w150er users reported the coil whine with new bios 1.00.07 (or prema v1.3).
I have the Prema 1.3 and I think there is pretty much no difference in fan speed at idle vs previous bios, however I believe the new bios added a 1 or 2 new steps in fan speed, resulting in a more gradual increasing noise as temps rise.
edit: it seems w150er has also some coil noise! But I can only hear it when I place my ear in middle of keyboard...so I don't know if it was there in previous bios since even now I only heard it because I was trying to hear the fan noise during idle
It's not a big deal at all, at least in my w150er.
edit2: the coil whine also goes away with cpu load like w110er. But unless you plan to have your head lying on keyboard you won't hear it (or maybe I have bad hearing
)

I ran my laptop on battery for 3+ hours last night with latest BIOS + ME and stock 650m drivers, and after 3+ hours of "heavy" regular use (if that makes any sense; I was torrenting followed by at least an hour and a half of copying large files over the home network, all the while browsing the internet) I had an estimated 2 hours and change left. Not bad, imo.

No such luck, i want to know how to get to the stock bios if possible? might need to send it back
-
If your board is broken you can't flash an other BIOS without a programmer. But on the other hand no one will really care if it's fried anyway. They will just replace it.
-
Fixed it. Something to do with ram
-
After updating the me, my temps dropped around 10 degrees!
This ME update is interesting, what does it do? I am running the ME update on the stock 1.4 bios. -
I will have to check my temps after a round of BF3 again since the update. Previously, they crept up to low 90s. I game on this laptop very infrequently, so it didn't really bother me.

This is getting amazingly beautiful! Good job Prema.. really
-
Hello people and especially Prema. Got one of the Clevo's W150ER with that cooler issue. Guys from the store reffered me your BIOS update. But it seems to hang every time i try to flash after the second "press any key" without any further step. It causes no harm hopefully, but it leaves me with the stock BIOS too. WOuld like to get some help on this problem. Cheers.
-
Prema Mod v1.3 for W150ERx should even force the flash...hmmm maybe redownload?
Posted from my unbricked & now socketed W110ER
-
i have flashed my bios to latest prema bios for my w110er but i really dont know how to apply ME update under pure dos .a simple step by step guide would be nice
-
Are you asking how to boot to DOS? Otherwise in the download there is a readme.txt file that tells you what to do.
-
i saw readme txt but i dont know how to run in pure dos or as you said how to boot to DOS and run files
edit: ok i figured out how to apply ME update and now my overall cpu temp is 10c less -
Nice ! Well done Prema !!
-
If possible i could use a bit of clarification about this ME update, are we talking about the Intel Management engine here or is this something different? If its the intel ME i tried the latest version of that a while ago but after that my system seemed slower then with the version provided as stock driver by clevo
-
It's the ME firmware and not the driver. The new driver didn't work well for you, because you need both to match.
-
Will undervolting ever be possible for the W150ERX?
-
Would you please state which driver version should be installed in along with this firmware update?
Also, do you recommend this ME update and its corresponding driver to those who are still on BIOS 03 or before? -
Hi Prema,
What is the ME firmware version and which driver matches please?
Currently i have the stock ME driver. -
Intel ME Version: v8.0, Build 1464, Hotfix 10
Matching driver:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?lang=eng&changeLang=true&DwnldID=21201
YES, you can use the update also on BIOS 03, but I would strongly suggest to update to 04 or Prema Mod v.14 -
Amazing! I used the new ME with the stock Clevo drivers and nothing changed in terms of temps. Upgraded to the new drivers and at idle temperatures are, indeed, ~10*C lower.
-
Hey, i would like to know if the ME update work on W150ERQ ?
And thanks a lot for your job
-
Thank you very much !
-
+1
Also, could someone with 110er and ME update post a screenshot of hwinfo showing the idle estimated power consumption by cpu? I wonder if decreased temps also means less power eaten by cpu
