So on idle my power spec 1510 is getting 80 cpu and 70 gpu right now. The laptop is on a bed but i'm literally running this website and its so hot. This should not be normal... should i contact Microcenter?

That CPU is running warm but if the cooling were really bad it would hit throttle temp which is around 100c the max operating temp, the GPU max temp is 90c
So I would wonder if the fans were hitting the proper rpm's which oddly enough going by CCC you can only set up to 80%
Not really sure what the rpm's should hit so cant help there

I would also make certain there were no obstructions in any of the heat sink fins.

When looking over my 1510 back when I first got it I found there was a shred of paper or plastic in the CPU heat sink fan, I also found a couple of the sink screws were not tightened all the way down.

There as you know not really a lot of heat sink to begin with so it would take much to effect temps

If you check the sink screws do use the right screwdrivers I think they are JIS type so if you use a regular Phillips you could strip them out

Using it on a bed will choke off the vents on the underside. Use a cooler underneath it when using it on a bed to allow for proper airflow.

what CPU paste do you recommend? I have my laptop on top of a cooling pad and undervolted and when playing fornite my cpu is hitting 96

    @lethalasian

For laptops, I assume the heatsinks are less than optimal, in any maker's models. Inadequate pressure to die, spacing, etc. Thus I recommend using a thick paste that is nonconductive, like ICD7 or Gelid. Some thermal pastes lose thermal transfer capacity if they are applied too thick, but the two I mentioned do not have this issue.

So they are ideal for less than ideal heatsink applications.

If you search my replies in this thread, I discussed my results after an ICD7 repaste.

EDIT: Found the post, I'll add it here:

So I was looking at a 14C drop in temps after repasting.

I would put it on a board or tray and use a cooling pad. I would also get some cans of duster because it probably is or will be full of dust and fibers which will clog the fans and sink fins, not to mention the rest of the machine like the screen and keyboard which attracts dust like a magnet.
With the size of the sink it will not take much to effect the cooling efficiency either way so re-pasting done right would also probably help.

Ever since the last Win update, Control Center is working incorrectly. Especially the fan feature, manual selecting Maximum fan settings goes unresponsive. Often time to remedy this, I'll need to shift+shutdown and it will work as it should for the duration of the day. But eventually, Control Center may become unresponsive and needs to end task to reopen it. Turning off the touch pad too, becomes intermittently responsive. Any ideas, is there a patch, update to CC?

Also, I've re-pasted three times with Grizzly Kryonaut and I regret it. Previously, with max fan running and on a cooler, I didn't get temps pass 79c on my game of choice (World of Tanks ultra settings). Now I'm getting 88c. I've tried thin coat spreading with a card to prevent bubbles, the pea method, and just a single row. Producing all the same results.

Anyone know what the stock thermal paste possibly was? (Yes, I know temps are still well within acceptable tolerance, but as far as I'm concerned I initiated a downgrade in results that I'm sure no one here would tolerate.)

    Guys

I bought a 970 evo m.2 nvme to stick inside my 1710, but neither boxes came with any screw or thermal pad or anything

Anyone have an idea of what size of screw I need?

And if I need a heatsink for it, or just stick it in as is?

I've also been running kryonaut for the last 4months max 80c at any point while gaming. But im tempted to repasted with phobya nanogrease while I have it open, any thoughts? Worth the Hassel?

Hopefully you saved your packaging and literature. In the manual package there is a thermal pad and some small screws that are just for that.
As for re-pasting all I can say is if it ain't broke don't fix it just one more chance to have something go wrong, I am running the stock paste and temps are good

It appears in your situation, yoiu prolly have lackluster pressure on the heatsink, and maybe gaps? Use a thicker paste, like Gelid Extreme or ICD7.

Contact MicroCenter tech support they should be able to provide them, have some kicking around I would think. Also it should still be under warranty since the warranty transfers

Hello all, so I'm new here and have read this entire thread, and I have just now discovered these laptops as something i would seriously consider on purchasing. That being said, does anyone know of any upcoming future 'revisions' to these models? is it worth to hold off on either of these and wait for an updated model? any info is appreciated.

We probably won't see a refresh until Cannon Lake, though release dates on it are still nebulous. Now is a pretty good time to pull the trigger since nothing new is confirmed for the immediate future.

I bought the 1510 earlier this year and have had no regrets. It is great not only for gaming but video and picture editing.

As for revisions of the machines I would imagine as soon as the boards currently used run out and new ones produced by Clevo, as you probably know these machines and others like it are just rebranded Clevo's.

Really though I guess major revisions would happen when new graphics chips come out as well as cpu's
The nVidia Volta architecture or Volta like chip for mainstream I have heard (read) may be coming out soon.
This article just came out on the Volta

the m.2 screw was actually already in the standoff on the board.
the thermal pad on the normal 960evo looks about 2mm thick
i only had 1mm, so stuck that on, and dont see any different temps wise, so all good
its running perfectly, finally a dedicated steam library nvme :)

i live and work in europe, i fly to usa every2 months, so going back to microcenter would have to wait
cheers for everyones input though

almost certainly in the minority here, but anyone had any experience with this model and any Linux distros? seems to run everything without serious issue, aside from the keyboard, which I can't figure out how to adjust at all

I have run a couple distros of a usb drive and for the most part runs well with basic drivers. As far a drivers for the keyboard back-light etc Clevo afaik has zero drivers available for linux and doesn't plan on making any available.

So Clevo control center went completely fubar on my 1510 after a forced reboot. So I did a repair install with the original ccc from the microcenter site, as administrator of course. But first I disabled the powerbios service, key component of control center. According to the installer it did not go correctly however I also got a reboot prompt which after doing so ccc works correctly again.
I have not tired to update ccc since I had no luck in the past. But if were to try again I would definitely disable that powerbios service first

Hello, everyone. I am having hard time fighting constant fps drops on Powerspec 1710.
So I've checked the PC for viruses using NOD, malwarebytes, performed undervolting to -0.100,tried to change power plan, tried to disable Turbo, tried to disable Aggressive in power plan.
The laptop is currently on cooling pad, the temps are below 90 degrees.
The laptop is connected to 240hz monitor.
When I try to run a game I get 100% CPU utilization and as the result shuttering.

Is there anything that I can do? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Thank you

Model of monitor? Try capping FPS to 120, then 144, etc to see when you start getting the drops. If the monitor is also GSync, you can get fluid gameplay with a lower FPS than 240. Also, is the cable you using Displayport 1.2, 1.3, 1.4?

The monitor is GSYNC it is ASUS https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG258Q/
Cable is DisplayPort 1.2. The thing is at 100% CPU usage frames drop from 110 to 20 fps. And I have GSYNC enabled on laptop and monitor.
Also I don't know why it shows only 2 clocks and the value is 2690mhz

Monitor the GPU and CPU over a period of gameplay noting their frequencies and usage along with the temps.

Currently trying to reinstall drivers. Doubt that would help.

If it was running all the cores a full speed yes, 4 cores x 2 threads each

Run resource monitor or task manager sort by cpu to see what is using it up

Also https://www.hwinfo.com/ is a good tool
as is Intel extreme tweak utility

use throttlestop to enable intel speed shift as well

It is possible the cpu has a problem search and run the official intel cpu checker
also run inspectre as I shared in previous link

it is also possible you have a zero day attack going on that is very stealthy except in it's effect

Intel cpu's are having more and more vulnerabilities popping up all the time it seems.

You could also try and run a version of windows 10 off an external drive and see if the problem persisted.
It is a great feature of windows 10 being able to do that, even if it were from an entirely different system it would set up and run.
    Limited of course

@Canonfodder so the inspectre shows that I am not spectre protected. What do I need to do fix that?

After I went to msconfig and reset to original boot configuration, everything become much better/ I underclocked cpu -100,turned on speedshift, set Max Processor State to 85%, and disabled boost mode.
If I run pubg at Balanced Power, CPU doesn't throttle and temps are ok,I still get 30fps drops from time to time, but not as crazy as before. But on Performance Mode the temps go crazy. I guess I will need to repaste the cpu.

For me the fix did not stick using the old CCC version. I have not tried the new version like you did so perhaps that would have made the difference.
To tell the truth I disabled CCC in startup using Ccleaner. Powerbios is still enabled so I can change control the keyboard lights which is all I care about at this point.
I use afterburner and Riva tuner which is way better for monitoring, also I do not overclock.
If I ever want to run the other options I can just go to the x86 program hotkey folder and start and run the individually programs manually just fine, though you might have to run in vista mode lol
Real buggy software and also a big startup hit

To add to that the problem seemed to be related to a critical windows update

Yeah it is the GPU program that usually acts up. Go to program(x86) Hotkey folder and play around with the compatibility mode of all the gpu files, their are three.
    Try "vista" mode etc

The one you want to run is GPUOC2 if you are in MSHYBRID mode it may have trouble hooking the gpu since it is not active, but it should still show the temp and not be greyed out if the app is working proper.

If you try to reinstall it again make sure the hotkey folder is completely removed, you may have to go into safemode to get rid of it manually.
Also use ccleaner to clean the registry.
    Try installing as "Administrator"

If I have some time in the future will try and figure exactly why it goes all buggy

The GPU sensor will not and should not work under MS hybrid with no 3d load. If it does show a value the GPU is being woken up and it's wasting power.
