The nvidia driver panel is still part of their drivers.

Run DDU in Safe Mode and clean out your existing driver. (I've found that DDU in standard mode doesn't do the job) You should then be able to install the DCH driver just fine.

On another note, I just upgraded my 1710's audio with a Creative G6 external DAC/Amp. It's pretty awesome, and the Creative Connect version I got is 3.4.6.0, and also detects and handles my Realtek SBX 720 too. Very nice of the app to do so.

@Papusan @Meaker@Sager @Chastity I used DDU in Safe Mode to uninstall both drivers. Did I do something wrong? I just used the recommended settings and chose "Clean and Restart." I installed the Intel DCH drivers fine, but couldn't install Nvidia DCH. It recommended the standard driver, which I tried to auto-install with GeForce Experience. However, I don't think it's installing? Whenever I reload GeForce Experience after the restart, it doesn't tell me I already have the latest driver installed. :(

Are you sure you are grabbing the right package? NVIDIA's download page defaults to Standard.

You can try these for fun: https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArwXzixQ74JbgcU0ETbW-N-9CCBzyA?e=nlFyjl 435.80 DCH

DDU can cause odd effects which is why you dont use it everytime but as above just download a standard package from geforce.com

Always deleting drivers the normal way then use DDU in safe mode. And NVIDIA’s clean up is better than it has been.

So many people run into issues running ddu everytime with that it seems though.

DDU should be used only if you encounter a problem, and you want to install to a clean slate. I personally do upgrade installs, and only will wipe with DDU if there's an issue. And 98% of the time there isn't an issue. (I had to use DDU once, and that was to go back to a Standard package from GFE installing a DCH w/o telling me, and MS Store had taken down NVCP for a time.)

Decided I wanted to upgrade my external DAC setup to allow for surround virtualization, and comsolidate components to reclaim some desk space. :) So I ordered the Creative G6. What a very nice improvement.

I'm not going to go into great detail here, as I wrote up my experiences elsewhere, but I wanted to point out here that the SB Connect 2 app supplied by the G6 driver does replace the one for the Realtek 720 that our units came with, but will recognize and work for both products.

If you have questions, I'll be happy to answer.

Huh? But you told me to uninstall with DDU?

Well...I tried uninstalling the Nvidia drivers with DDU again (always in safe mode) and installing the driver you suggested @Chastity I'm still getting the same message from Nvidia as I posted before with the screenshot.

Also, sound blaster won't work for me now?
    upload_2019-8-26_17-12-33.png
My speakers and headphones work, though. I just don't get a notification anymore, when I plug in or unplug my headphones.

Update: I uninstalled Nvidia drivers via Windows, then did DDU in safe mode, wouldn't let me install the DCH, so I let Windows install the driver...and it has...but I still have a caution sign and code 43 under Device Manager. I'm going to discharge the electrical buildup, per a suggestion...waiting for my battery to drain.

Anybody know where I can pick up some spare keycaps for the 1510 (p650hs)? I'm trying to replace a couple scratched ones before selling it. I've searched online and can't seem to find any.

Approaching my 2 year anniversary of owning my 1710. Unit is still working, thanks to my repaste 3 months into owning it. All the original storage (250 GB 960 EVO and the HTSC 1TB HDD drive) have been upgraded. (960 EVO 500 GB + Intel 660p 2TB + 860 EVO 1TB SATA)

    I overclock the GSkill 16GB DDR4-2400 to DDR4-2666 with 16-17-17-41 timings.

I've updated the Intel 8260 Wifi/BT to an Intel AX200 Wifi/BT, to use with my Asus RT-AX88U router. Got a nice bump in regular Wifi speeds, and can now take advantage of my Gigabit ISP service wirelessly.

Very upset with the utter lack of aftermarket support in regards to drivers and BIOS/EC updates. In fact, once the 1720 came out, the 1710 page was relegated to legacy. Unfortunately this is typical for rebadged Clevo systems, so I guess MicroCenter feels they can get away with it.

One screw in the base (left lower corner) got jammed, and would not come out, and I had to snap the screw base to be able to remove the bottom lid, but no big deal. Keyboard is still like-new since I hardly use it in favor of my external Corsair K63 Wireless. Same for touchpad.

I invested in getting a license for Obsidian-PC's Fan Control in order to tame the highly aggressive stock EC settings for the fans.

... and that's about it. Never needed to have the unit serviced by MC.

The SPD or default timings are the default boot timings. XMP would need to be set.

I'm wondering how you overclocked the G-skill ram to 2666. The clevo utility isn't saving changes to the ratio, it only saves the timings.

I changed the settings in the BIOS, using a manual config. You may be able to also use Intel's Extreme Tuning app.

RAM arrived, installed, working after forcing a CMOS reset. :) I find it odd that the JDEC defaults are set to 2933. I would assume they would be 2666 timings, with an XMP profile for 2933. But whatever. Interesting also is that the XMP2 profile is for 2666. [email protected]

Anyhoo, they work, so if anyone else is interested in a RAM speed upgrade, then by all means go for it. 32GB also doesn't suck either.

I've found a way to make the RGB keyboard on this thing useful, using this software called Aurora. It's the only unofficial keyboard lighting software I've gotten that works with this laptop. Since this keyboard only has three lighting zones, and the software is made for individually-lit RGB as opposed to zones, I had to manually map every key to match my razer mouse. The end result is all the zones change simultaneously to one color, but it's definitely reactive enough to gameplay that I still like it better than the static clevo presets.

Instead of having one big lighting zone, I'm thinking of testing individual keys to find out where each zone starts and ends, so at least I have three different reactive colors (if you disable one zone at a time via FN+7/8/9 you can see there is some overlap between zones, so it requires testing). The hardware limitation of zones is not handled well by the software without customization, it just averages the color and brightness of each key in a zone, which usually just looks like an orange or brown at half brightness. An upcoming redesign is also intended to have better support for zoned keyboards to make lighting profiles like this easier.

This is what my settings in the program looks like, by the way.

Highly recommended trying this software if you're bored with your current default keyboard lighting. It's a bit complex to navigate ATM, but a redesign is being worked on according to the helpful staff in their discord channel. Anyone who does modding here will be comfortable tinkering with it regardless. Clevo falls under "Generic Keyboard (Numpad)" in the Preferred Keyboard settings, btw. If you're interested, check out Project Aurora.

@Meaker@Sager or anyone else who knows:

On the 1710, aka, PA70HS-G, the mini-DP ports, are they 1.4 or 1.2 compliant? IIRC the GTX1070 supports 1.4. Reason I ask is that I have a new monitor coming, the Benq EW3270U, and 1.2 cannot do 4K 10bit RGB4:4:4. Worst case scenario, I can connect using USB-C ala Thunderbolt 3 port. I did order a mini-DP to DP 1.4 cable to make sure I was set if it does.

EDIT: After checking the service manual, it says the ports are mDP 1.3, so using the incoming 1.4 cable should allow for RGB4:4:4 @ 4K 60Hz 10bit native. IIRC my current cable may be only 1.2, but I don't know for sure. Bought it 2 years ago. The monitor support HDR as well, so I just wanted to make sure I can do it all.

Is anyone still using this dead laptop? :D Share framerate pics to show how it holds up against the new RTX 20 series

also @Chastity you seem to have the most positve experience with this laptop, what's the temps when gaming? Mine when playing Warframe:
    warframe temps.jpg
It's usually higher when playing with other people in a squad and there's a lot more fighting going on. CPU temps at that point will be around 90s :(

True. Purchased this unit during nov of 2017 and I believe some time in 2018 there was a newer one released with the 8750H but still the same gtx 1070. PA70 ES-G / PA71 ES-G I think.

    Hello all,

I have a 1710 and a few months after messing with the GPU overclock (it worked fine) and disabling it since then, when I tried to mess with it today it will simply not apply the changes, ANY changes, it just keeps "loading" and never ends (I tried uninstalling/installing the control center to no avail), any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The version I have is V.5.001.1.46 which I downloaded from the Sager website, don't know if it's the latest one tho.

And I did reinstall this version, I'm also running the OBSIDIAN-PC Control Station in parallel, and also tried uninstalling it along with the normal control center, then installing only the control center and tried running the GPU overclock tool and it also doesn't save changes, only keeps loading, so I'm out of ideas besides a full system format.

    Also thanks for answering!

I had a temporary setback cleaning my 1510 improperly with canned air, a gpu fan got jammed with a dust ball or something, fortunately it's working again. The left hand fan (CPU) feels sort of weak even on max fans though, and I can't remember if this is normal or not. It's certainly a lot less air than the rear exhaust. Does that fan blow with any real force on anyone else's laptop?

Protip for laptop people using external DAC powered by USB: the power out from our PowerSpec's is quite noisy, and will be audible as a hissshhh if amped up. Solution: use external hub that is powered. I'm currently using a hub port on a Seagate External USB3 HDD, which has no line noise vs USB out on the laptop.

Or get one that isolates the 5v input from the output properly. Most ports, especially laptop ones will be noisy.

My poor motherboard bit the dust, and I don't know why. It seems my Intel 660p SSD died, and soon after so did the motherboard. And all this 2 months out of warranty. :(

So MicroCenter wants $1330 to replace the motherboard. I declined the repair, obviously. :)

So I will be looking for a replacement system in the near future. Unless someone knows where I can get a PA70HS-G motherboard for a lot less. (7700HQ + GTX1070) not Max-Q

Funnily enough, I'm in trouble too.

    My screen stopped working.
It was flickering yesterday, thought it was the heat, so left it. Booted up today, and now nothing.
Screen lights up for 1 second, displays powerspec. Then black screen. Not even backlight.

So I grab the hdmi, and plug it into the TV, and no signal :(

Oh dear guys, you could try reaching out to resellers to see if they have anything. However the board does have all the major chips on it so is most of the value of the machine.

Making the BGA design not worth fixing. So I'm just going to replace the unit with something else.

But seriously, I’m sorry for your loss and also a bit scared :( Mine is still working fine but I kinda want to get rid of it to build a desktop. After a while I started to not enjoy using it anymore because it’s loud and hot. Hopefully it won’t die on me. Anyone have friends or family who are in need, pm me, I’m willing to let this PowerSpec 1710 go for a reasonable price.

My 1510 is still chugging, I've played without the opolar vacuum cooler for a while now since hearing odd noise and repasting/dusting seems to have kept temps usable. I think the left vent fan is slightly off, but at worst it only occasionally makes a sluggish noise until it's at speed. Not too bad considering I thought I killed it by improperly dusting, because a piece of dust lodged in the fan locked my entire computer from even booting.

These laptops were ahead of their time. And were seriously the best deal around when MicroCenter first offered them. VS. Maybe getting a crazy good deal used on something else.
