Non-Glare or Glare which are you guys going for?
Old question, still I would like to know how many go for Glare etc.
-
Does anyone know if the M980NU will allow for overclocking?
Thanks, -
Positive..........
-
I would like to know, also.
But actually, the 9850 only comes in glossy.. I am figuring it will be like the Asus w90vp screen.. reflective, but beauitful! -
Keep in mind that this doesn't necessarily apply to all of the rebranded Clevo's.
Other resellers could have their own bios.
I think for many this will be a big part of their decision and could determine who they purchase from.
The bios in the Alienware M17x does allow for OC'ing and it has no overheating at all when OC'ed so hopefully the M980NU vendors won't be too gun shy and provide a user adjustable OC'ing feature as well. -

At this moment, since the NP9850 has not yet been released, overclocking is an option that is still being tested.
There are no "final" specifications for it yet, and there are still many features that could change between now and the release date...hopefully overclocking will be one of them.
Like they say..."Stay tuned for further developments" -
Actually, on 3 German-resller-sites they announced that they have it and can ship it within 24h.
I am still hesitating because I don't know if I should buy a glare or non-glare one (site says they have both).
Also I'm thinking of buying just one GPU and buy the 2nd one later when they do not cost 500€ anymore. waaaah.. :|
edit: talking about the m980nu -

No bios overclocking is really gonna hurt sales.

the m17x WILL win. unless sager comes out with something better.
m17x IN THE BIOS HAS
fsb overclocking(no need for setfsb)
multiplier overclock
cpu/ram fsb ratio.
i don't think sager will go that route. but if they do?????????? -

You guys missed that while the M17X has all the bios options it has so far been doing very poor with actual overclocking.
the Asus W90 can push the Q9000 to 2.7ghz on average just with FSB overclocking and even with a full open bios there average is 2.3-2.4ghz.
The trend follows for other cpu's as well, yes they have the options there, but if they try to boot with a high fsb or cpu setting the machine simply wont boot.
Options do you no good if they do not work.
For cooling of the M17X, it seems normal. Not great. I am trying to get somebody to run an OCCT test like me but most of them are cooking there cpu's into the 70c+ range and wont run it, again the W90 I did a OCCT run and only got 61c max on the cpu with a 33% overclock.
As it stands right now the M17X biggest and greatest feature to me is the full keyboard and the cool lights. -

Some guys have gotten their Q9000's to 2.5 on the M17x, and sleey0 has his P8600 to 3.0ghz, another guy got his T9600 to 3.3 the other night, to me this is more than enough, not all of us are over the top performance junkies and bench runners.

Im simply saying not point in even mentioning the bios if the bios wont do you any good.
Id pass on an unlocked bios if another machine can overclock higher with setfsb and thats currently the case. -

for me i would prefer the bios overclock as long as it yields good results.

Those dual core games that need mhz will do better, and my video encoding will definitly do better, 800mhz of power can save me a lot of time when coding a video feed.
For me it has always been about price vs performance, or value for your dollar,
Your cut down single GTX260 machine probably ran as much as my dual 4870, 6gb ram, blueray, 2x 320gb, 2.7ghz Q9000 rig.
If I was to pay more for the M17X it needs the performance to back it up, not just a flashy keyboard (though I think its cool)
With luck AW/Dell will see there bios is not working as it should and find a way to fix it, its never going to happen if everybody is "ok" with it how it is now. Speak up and say you want what you paid for. -

As for the price, I paid in Canadian funds, plus Dell charges an extra premium here in Canada. The W90 on newegg.ca was more than what I paid. by around two hundred dollars (tax included on both systems)*,it did not have blu ray and only had a single HD I'm not sure what you paid for your W90, but I highly doubt my config was as much as yours. -

FYI I just need one program and its docked in my rocket dock, takes me 5 seconds to OC my cpu. if I really wanted to I can make a .bat file and stick it in my start folder and have it do it automatically.
It only OC's the FSB and that means my CPU & RAM, OC on the RAM is also a good thing as long as its stable.
The A1 goes for $2400 not as cheap as the base M17X, but by the time you up the screen to 1920x1200 and add 280SLI so it can even start to compete its cheaper, then it still has more ram, better warranty, more hdd, and the blueray to top it off.
As a completly neutral person I would chose the W90, esp on a budget.
But as long as your happy thats all that counts, Im not trying to make you get the W90 nor feel bad about your purchase. But its nice to document these things for those still deciding what to buy.
When the 9850 is out the circle will be complete and we can map out the stats/facts of all 3 units and people can decide on there own what they want to buy, its just a fact right now the W90 is OCing better than the M17X unlocked bios means nothing when the bios was unlocked for overclocking in the first place. -
this is not a Epeen war here come on guys...
WE ARE ALL NERDS!!!!!
we just unite to bench computers---- god----- not measure our E-peen or how much you paid !!!!
So each to their own now SHUT UP -
-
That is what I thought, Ken! Thank you for clearing this up so much !!! -
-
any one with one of this bab's yet?

Interested to see how this thing compares to the 9262 when someone finally gets their hands on it.
