Prema Gift Donations Thread

Note from the mods: this is an NBR member initiative and not something tied to NBR but given all that Prema has done for the community, we agreed this would be fine.

DONATIONS COLLECTED SO FAR: $3777 USD

Without the help of this generous and hard working person, the enthusiast's dream of a powerful Aliencrushing machine would have not been possible.

For all the nights and days he has spent creating, tweaking, enhancing custom BIOSes/VBIOSes for the latest Clevo machines.....without his BIOS, really, these machines on the stock BIOS would be no better than a crippled ACER Netbook with 0 options for modifications, overclocking, tweaking, etc.

In collaboration with HIDevolution who has generously agreed to provide Prema with the latest Clevo P870DM-G laptop refresh as soon as it's out with the latest GeForce GTX 1080 GPU, that laptop would be the flagship of Clevo and have the latest GPU. But as a gift from all of us who appreciate's this man's hard work, we would all like to help sup up his system with faster/more RAM, SSDs, etc.

We will start collecting donations from all that want to contribute.

For now, here is how it will work

1- Send your donation via PayPal to this address: [email protected]

In the comments / instructions to seller, enter: Prema Donation

2- HIDevolution's accounting department will keep track of everything, when the system is released, when the system is released, they will do the needful to sup up the specs as per Prema's request using the donation money

3- Also send an email to [email protected] and in the subject line just type in your forums username / donation amount. This makes it easier for me to track the total amount of donation money we have so far.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank @Donald@HIDevolution and @Ted@HIDevolution for their generosity in offering this system to a person who deserves it more than anyone.

Just imagine, all this goodness that we have in terms of BIOS options, is without Prema even having this beast of a machine with him, if he has one, we would even see better tweaks/enhancements to the BIOS!

Although I love the idea, my question is timing. Specifically, when either the 1080 or 1080m is released (sli setup). Also, at computex they show the second version of this p870dm beast... if nothing else, i'd love to get the 1080x series gpus for him. This is something his input would help on. As for CPU, if waiting for the 1080/m release, then it is a question of getting the 4.8 silicon lottery 6700k or the kaby lake equivalent, so long as kaby lake isn't a sh1t stain like broadwell or if, for some reason, prema wants it for the extra cache rather than the raw mhz... we all know he'll want the 3200mhz ram and he's had his eye on that AUO 4k screen since it was first mentioned, before release. Obviously, whatever screen is selected, calibrated will have to happen. Also, he may want to get the AUO screen and install it himself. Will HID be discounting it because this is for prema?

I think it's best to not make assumptions at this point. We know we have the base system from HIDevolution which is a great cost knocked off the total value of our gift!

Also i think it would be better for someone (i mean you) to collect the whole thing and then forward it to HIDE, that way it saves them a lot of trouble tracking things.

 

This is really a great idea! Hope many can donate. We have always appreciated the work of Prema from years ago, what he is doing today, and in the future! What an asset he is to NBR!

Nah, I don't like it either, but I never hesitate to exploit Facebook and Twitter when doing so serves my purposes. Facebook and Twitter both suck, and especially Facebook. If doing so pulls in a few extra bucks for this worthy cause it will be worth the few minutes it took to post.

Just letting you all know us mods all discussed this initiative but we wanted to make it clear this was a member initiative and is not tied to NBR staff in any way so I added that note in the first post. I would donate if I had money but right now I can't do it. I've donated a good bit to Prema over time though.

 

I also donated a $100 USD last month alone so my hands are tied now

 

aw man, what i wouldnt give to see @Prema´s face right now, looking at those donation numbers going sky high i sure hope were gonna get a full spec listing once the monsterbook is all set up and ready to be shipped into his hands

 

yes and it will be a teaser since the great Prema will be the first human being to get his hands on the next Clevo behemoth Next, comes a supped up Prema BIOS!

 

If it were up to me, i would drop by un-invited at HIDEvolutions office and get first eyes on the hardware. They are like 30 mins away.

They could, but it's easy enough to do if they don't. The soldering is very simple, and the only tedious part is removing parts to get to it. That makes the fact that it is socket-mounted less relevant because it's covered up by the palmrest and requires the machine be completely dismantled to access it. If they don't do that for him, I have no doubt Prema will take care of that minor detail on his own. He even has a socketed vBIOS chip on his old laptop. It would not surprise me if he moves it to the bottom side of the mobo to make access easier. Just need to solder wires to the pads and route them to the other side and mount the socket to a small PCB, so not too difficult in the grand scheme of things. I plan to do that to mine if I ever have to pull the BIOS chip again.
