HIDevolution sent me the donations spreadsheet, 3 members who promised a donation still didn't make the payment so I contacted them with a reminder.
Glad to see how well this is organized, not a single donation goes in the wrong place. Everything under control @Mr. FoxPrema, i_pk_pjers_i, Papusan and 7 others like this. -
You make it sound easy, but that's a level of modding I'll probably never reach

Yeah, I used to think the same thing. Finally decided to watch some YouTube videos for technique and with some encouragement from Brothers @Prema @johnksss and @t456 I decided to go for it. I bought a hot air/hot iron combo station and a few extra tools and, with some fear and trepidation I sucked it up, bit my lower lip and did it. I'm still 100% a noob at it. Practice makes perfect, but so far every effort has been a success. I'm still scared to try the super tiny things that I can barely even see with a 10x magnifying headset, but the fear of the unknown is gone now. Using the right technique, bigger things like BIOS EEPROMs are actually very easy, even with a cheap soldering iron. I have since removed and replaced 4 BIOS chips and added extra MOSFETs to three GTX 980M GPUs. Because they are so expensive, I still sweat bullets working on 980M cards. It's a shame most of them are gimped and assembled with poor quality components.Last edited: Jul 10, 2016

I'm not planning on donating any money this time but I have donated a ton of money to Prema in the past, I'm glad to see that other people are generous as well. Prema really deserves it.

I've sent some money but PayPal has screwed up and not delivered it. They've definitely taken the cash from my balance, it doesn't show in the activity statement but shows if I look to 'resolve' a transaction.
I've never had this happen before. Still waiting in a response from them. I wonder if it's because I sent it as a gift..?Prema and i_pk_pjers_i like this. -
That has happened to me once. Talk to them over the phone if you can. Faster that way.
I think all of us sent it as a gift though.Prema and i_pk_pjers_i like this. -
I would call them except I'm using my Australian PayPal from Japan. It's likely to just add to the confusion. I'll give them another 24 hours before I send something more demanding. I have read this had happened to some other people too. Thanks for confirming as well. Hopefully they'll sort it soon.Prema and i_pk_pjers_i like this.

I have 3 Paypal accounts i use for my freelance work, and i need to pay taxes for each in a different country (KILL ME! :X) , i had issues with the one i maintain with my US Bank account and they locked it because of incomplete tax forms or something. Emailed then 3 times and waited like 10 days, and the whole thing went no where. Called them once and they sorted it out within 3 days.
Same thing happened with the Indian Account , since the credit card attached to it had expired long back and i didn't have a bank account linked to it, and when i sent someone money from that account using the existing balance, it never reached them. So i called them from the US and they sorted it out without issue

Wish I could donate more - but I only get U$400 a month from the SAF. Not much to get me through... hopefully Prema gets what he wants, and what he certainly deserves for his hard work for this community.

I didn't mean I am disappointed with the amounts. Any donation be it small or big is good. My disappointment was with how very few people did actually donate. when it comes to downloading his BIOS, everyone would jump on them like hawks. When it comes to contributing, only a few people did.
None from TechnoInferno forums which is even more disappointing.Prema, i_pk_pjers_i and CaerCadarn like this. -
i bet all donators thus far are owners of socketed hardware
or do we have any BGA donations yet?
still, over a thousand bucks is nothing to sneer at! lets check and see what that could get you on the HIDevo website...
edit: ok, so with 1032 USD u can get:
- 3 years extended global warranty for 600$
- 950 pro 512 GB for 365$
- Intel 8260 AC Wifi adapter for 30$
that leaves 37$
whats still missing (in my opinion):
- 4K display AUO full adobe rgb for 300$
- 2x16GB 2800 Mhz DDR4 for 197$
- second 330W AC adapter for 185$
so in order to make it a true monsterbook, we'd still be missing 645$
of course, one could just leave the standard warranty and take all the extra goodies instead, that way the money would just fall short 8$

There is still plenty of time to bring in more donations. We should not be so disappointed so early. Wait and see first.

lets see if i can also bring a bit to the table, financials are pretty tight at the moment...

here i thought that HIDEvolution offered to throw a 6700K into the donated machine already? thats why i left it as it was...
that might indeed be true with his abilities
more money left for hardware goodies then
you dont count, my friend
at least your CPU is socketed
yep, both QM (all gens up to Sandy Bridge) and MQ (Ivy bridge onwards) cpus are socketed. BGA crap is named HQ...Prema, i_pk_pjers_i, Spartan@HIDevolution and 2 others like this. -

Actually, that's MUCH better than I expected. I am very impressed with the generosity shown by a small group in this community driven effort. @Prema is probably used to giving and giving and getting little or nothing in return. It is a testament to his generosity and kindness. I know it was the same for @svl7 for many years as well. Hundreds of hours of labor invested by @svl7 and @johnksss... Lots of take and no give... and always someone looking to steal it and claim it as their own.
If you look at the donations on a monthly basis that roll in at Tech|Inferno, where many people download the firmware, this is many times greater than what we can see looking at the ticker at the top of the page. Looking now, MTD is $30. Last month I think it was $20 and if the T|I donations ticker is accurate I was the only person that showed him some love with my $20 donation last month.Last edited: Jul 13, 2016Prema, i_pk_pjers_i, jaybee83 and 3 others like this. -
I am not sure if I am in the position to say this, but I guess we should be grateful for whatever we can get?
And also, just curious, how do shops become a Prema partner and what benefits do each side get from this status?Prema and i_pk_pjers_i like this. -
If you are referring to @Prema he gives with no expectations whatsoever. Yes, he is always grateful and understands that for some a $5.00 donation is a huge sacrifice and might as well be $50 or $500 for them. He wants people to enjoy the firmware even if they give nothing but positive feedback.
I recommend contacting him at PremaMod.com to learn more about becoming a partner shop. He could explain it more thoroughly and accurately than any of us could. For end users, the benefits are obvious. The stock system BIOS truly sucks. Having complete control and the ability to exercise full ownership of their computers without having the company that sold the machine to them use the firmware mod as an excuse for denying warranty coverage if something goes wrong while running the modded firmware. I have heard rumors of some Clevo resellers declaring the warranty is void even without any evidence of the failure being attributable to overclocking or modded firmware. With a PremaMod partner that should be a non-issue.Prema, i_pk_pjers_i, SFVogt and 2 others like this. -
Yes that's sad ... so many people give more than a thousand of USD / EUR for a gaming notebook and use the (v)BIOS Mods but not ~5 USD / EUR to say thank you (Prema/svl7/johnksss) that you make so many things possible...
...really sad
