It's going to cut me thin, with traveling and my sister dying this last month, but consider it done. I'll get online and donate it this evening...

    It's now $1,500 USD...

@bloodhawk - thanks for that, but it doesn't put me out so much I can't afford my necessities. Just pushes off my hobby projects and getting licenses to mod Windows, create a windows to go as a backup plan on my 128gb thumbdrive, another SSD, etc. Those are things I want, not need. @Prema has done a lot for this community, and helped me out with some custom firmware before and I don't feel like I gave him enough for it. Aside from that, I know we are all giving what we can and I pushed off giving this donation from June because life caught up. Now I can, so I did...

    OK, brothers & sisters:

In order to complete the 'circle of life' (give, take, give again) I want to spread some extra love!

I would like to 'reward' donor of this project (who do not already have one) with a 'Personal Prema Mod'!

    Conditions:

    - Your donation is made between the 7th July and the end of this threads project (Soon ).
    - Your donation is 10$ or more (Currently all of you qualify. This is just to avoid misuse)
    - You own a current generation P6, P7 & P8 system with a Maxwell GPU (I currently do not support P640R F)

If you meet the above criteria then simply PM me these details from the user account used for the donation:

    - Your email ID
    - Your exact system (check F2 BIOS menu if uncertain) and GPU model (g-sync or regular)
    - Keep an image with your desired personal boot-logo in your screens native resolution ready (any format/no vendor logos)

    IMPORTANT:

    - HIDevlotution has agreed, but is in no way responsible to provide you with such a personal (v)BIOS).
    - A donation to this project doesn't automatically entitle you to receive a 'Personal Mod' in return.
    - Your 'Personal Mods' are intended only for the individual recipient and neither to be shared with a third party nor used commercially.
    - This is solely an initiative from my end to show my appreciation of your support!
    - I will full-fill requests at my leisure as time permits and technically possible, so please be a little patient.

    Sounds amazing Prema!!

Given that many fellows will get a Pascal-based P6, P7 or P8 notebook when it's released, would you mind to mod it as well? (because some users like me don't own a Maxwell based notebook...) :(

Anyway thanks a lot for the great offer.

i guess that will depend on how soon @Prema will get his machine and how much time he will have to complete the (v)BIOS mods :) but worst case, ud have to wait for several weeks for him to catch up on his insane workload (i know, ure not a patient man :D but better late than never ;) )

Great opportunity to show before and after BIOS videos and benchmarks. I think it can be healthy to know first hand exactly what degree of gimped nonsense you're avoiding with a @Prema mod, and you cannot know that until you have found yourself having to function without it for a little bit. Stock BIOS is " no bueno" LOL.

Remember, there are many machines being refreshed and video cards, as well as updating firmware for compatibility in some cases. No need to rush him. I still will recommend going through a Prema partner, as they support him and us in our pursuits! But you do, potentially, have a little more freedom. Meanwhile, don't worry how long it takes, you know you are covered. It will come in time...

I know we all thank @Prema for all he has done in the community and all he will do! :) but I'm also sure obligations to his partner shops are top priority (including getting their top sellers setup)!

I remember when I had the barebones P870DM it was a pale laptop with a lot of wasted potential, enter Prema BIOS and that's when it felt like buying a whole new laptop. People who don't order from a Prema Partner seriously don't know what they're missing

I'm debating the DM3 or building a Zen desktop (need to save the money for it). Now, it depends on country of origin, service needs, etc. For me, in the US, I'd primarily consider HIDevolution. Mythlogic doesn't always opt for the full unlock, Avell is a maybe as the US just signed on, but the Brazil site focused on business class and smaller laptops (need to give another look), Eurocom is good, but you'd have to call and negotiate, plus any maintenance requires shipping out of the country, etc.

Now, HIDE allows selection of silicon lottery CPUs (or just get the lowest CPU possible or buy the unit without a CPU and buy it yourself from SL), same with Ram (both are cheaper to do yourself, although if you want a warranty on it, you need official support and buying it through the reseller helps). It is best to weigh where you are located and shipping/servicing concerns, the length of warranty you are purchasing and potential downtimes, what you are willing to cover with manufacturers warranty or no warranty to fix, etc. I think someone mentioned they will apply CLU also for you. So it depends on what you want and how much you want to tinker with it yourself to setup your rig...

Edit: I do all servicing myself unless a faulty MB within warranty period (or display within warranty), so it is whoever on the list that gives the bare bones at the best price with the 1080/sli. But leaning HIDE because they are used to CLU and the mods I'm likely to use... Eurocom next, then Mythlogic if they give a written warranty exception for a full unlocked bios...

If you opt for the HIDevolution global warranty, shipping both ways is covered by them. See: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/hidevolutions-warranty.784735/

True, but time for transport can be a concern. For me, it is in country, so not a concern. But shipping out of the country can allow our government to legally clone your data!!!

True. Thing is, though, that in some places, it's just waay more convenient to order from the local reseller. Like Aftershock.

Edit: Also, my army stipend just came in; first expenditure: donated another US$20 to Prema. @Phoenix, you should've received an email. Too bad the 'Personal Prema Mod' doesn't include the W230 series... :(

I am sorry I can't do anything currently I mean I saved for over 5 years little by little to buy what I have now, then I got it from someone who used it for 3 months and was willing to sell it to me over 1000 less than retail because he didn't even care much about money and wanted to help me out....but I can say thanks prema for all your hard work put into this community and others <3 @Prema maybe one day I will grow the balls to actually try your bios and vbios hard to risk anything when I saved for so long. I do know eventually (maybe years) I will sell my x2 980m's for whatever video card I can upgrade to not sure if it would be any at all or maybe the 1070 or etc...again thanks, and thanks to all the resellers and mods on this forum its so nice to get virtually any question answered on a more personal friendly level....

They stopped updating the total. This makes 5 donations since the total of $1590. By all accounts, it is between $1730 to $2K. As such, that plus a base DM2, He'll have a DM3 well loaded...

    sweet :)

    upgrade DM2 to DM3 = 955 $ (single 1080 to double 1080 and 6700K for CPU)

the rest would be enough for 32 GB DDR4-2800 RAM and a RAID 0 Setup of 2x512 GB 950 Pro with around 50 bucks left ^^

that is, if he decides to stick to the stock 1080p 120Hz 5ms screen :D

I cannot wait to see the build. I'm sure he'll specify faster ram than that. Meanwhile, if it was me, I'd get a high end SL cpu over those hard drives. The NVMe drives are still so costly. Further, you'd want the sm961 drives our the OCZ/toshiba NVMe drives which actually seem to perform better for daily use. Either way, I'm sure he has told them what he wants and I'm sure it will be amazing no matter what.

I'd like to thank all those that have donated!!! I'm sure more would have had they seen the thread, had the ability to donate, etc. But this shows what we can accomplish when pulling together for a man that had done so much for the community! And special thanks to HIDevolution!!! I've given then quite the recommendation on multiple threads for what they have done here and for their amazing offerings on their builds. Had I known about them, I may have bought my ZM from them. My next barebones will be with them, so long as they continue to partner with Prema (really love his work)...

They are and it comes with the kabylake chipset. If they restrict it to that chipset, they cut their throat. Meanwhile, what has been released shows only about speeds of nvme, granted connected externally through tb3

Tom's HW had an article yesterday*. Cut the rendering of an image by 70% vs NVMe PCIe intel 750 SSD. About 3.5x faster on that rendering test.

I would love to see an M.2 version that fits in P870DMx.

That makes me feel better about optane! The other article noted that the external enclosure, interface, or controller could have been the issue of only matching NVMe and this article supports that assertion! Much better than the article I was talking about published months ago!
