Neil, it's great that you can cut down the OS price.

I think that they will have your Finnish/Swedish keyboard at no extra cost as soon as they have them in stock (or when there will be demand for such keyboards).
-
Soo, today will be decided the discount
?
-
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
Indeed, later loday.
We have Danish keyboards which is quite similar to Swedish I believe but Finnish is very different. There are no specific Swedish or Finnish keyboards at present -
I would be very intersted in this offer but sadly I have to wait till Rock fix my CTX so that I can eBay it before I would have enough money
.
-
I would still like some more pictures of the actual product we would be buying, this sounds very promising, but paying this amount for a laptop I havent even seen in pictures(even photoshoped PR-ones..) well, I wont do that ;-)
-
These are the photos of the M860TU from the Clevo Guide. Gives you a nice impression I think.
The M570TU has the same looks like the M570RU, so you can find loads of pictures of that one. -
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
Hi, Nexus pics below (downsized from original TIFFs)
-
Nice pics.
Heliosvector do you think adding M570TU to the posts title will catch the eye of some other people? -
Extremely interested!
It really depends on if Dell release their new XPS with montevina.
Few questions though:
1. When is the deadline?
2. Why are we "banding" together? Is it to get some discounts? If so, how much?
3. Never heard about Sager or Clevo before. Do they make good laptops? Quality?
4. What about the cooling solution built in to the laptops? Is it good? Is the laptop from Clevo quiet?
5. Norwegian keyboard available?
Ty -
1)deadline? I`m not quite sure I should even try to answer that.
2)group discounts...
3)top notch, high end systems for everyone, awesome prices and awesome support.
4)most of them are cool n quiet, and with the new generation, apparently it will be even more so.
5)yep,pretty much anything you want can be had.
Check out the Clevo Guide . -
Hi i was comparing Kobalt to CIZMO and they seem cheaper to me including shipping and VAT. What do you think?
LINK: http://www.mycizmo.com/?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_67&products_id=189&action=configure
My config comes to about £1242 (base config with 9800m gt) at to days exchange rate inclusive of VAt and postage to the UK -

Can somebody tell me which would be best to go for out of the T9400 processor and the P9500 processor? What are the main differences? Both are 2.53ghz.
-
As far as I'm aware the only difference between the t9400 and p9500 aside the price is that the p9500 uses 25w of power whereas the t9400 uses 35w which means the t9400 runs hotter and consumes more battery power for the same performance (but it's cheaper
)
The problem I have is that you can pick up a fully loaded m860tu with 4gb ram a 9800gt, t9400, 320gb 7k2 hdd for about $2000 from rjtech.com which equates to roughly £1050. I know the USA is notoriously cheaper than europe but It seems to me that Kobalt are rather overpricing the m860tu. Therefore I'll probably just pick one up from said dealer next time im in the states.
Forgot to add, eurocom.com , who ship to europe (and uk) and price their items in GBP or euros are also selling the m860tu for considerably less than kobalt, again you can pick up this lappy
EUROCOM M860TU Montebello £1,427 GBP - inc delivery to europe

Have you included the VAT in the price? If you are going to US, it doesnt matter, but if you only order it from them to Europe, I think that you will be charged the VAT and toll costs. If I am mistaken, please feel free to correct me.
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
No you are correct, if you import from the USA, you will be charged import duties and it will become the same later on. Unless you are physically IN the usa, importing is usualy quite expensive
-
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
Of course that's your choice however if you spec up the Eurocom system with an OS installed (as ours does) we are £20 cheaperBy the time you add shipping and 17.5% VAT, which you will have to pay or the delivery company will not release the product to you, there's an even bigger difference.
The problem is that the UK is always more expensive than the US because of our VAT and higher living costs, which increase the price of products. Also, don't forget that we are buying every component apart from the chassis from UK distributors. This costs us more than it does for N American companies buy components from their distributors. I feel we have priced the Nexus very competatively, especially compared to the other European resellers.
EDIT: most of this has just been posted so soz for the repetition!!
I am currently waiting confirmation from the moderators that we can do this group buy so I will let you know when we have a decision (Heliosvector still has no broadband as the main Irish ISP is down across the whole country!!!!!). -
On the other hand, perhaps I can live with Danish keyboard...
Still no info about Finnish Vista Home Premium or do I have to choose English Ultimate and change it to Finnish on my own? -
To Neil: Could you please tell me how much are the shipping costs to Slovakia, or just a link to your web page where I could find it, because when I tried and entered my zip/postal code the costs where 0 pounds.
-
Just to let you guys know that I'm definitely in for the group buy as well
(unless some other vendor like mysn.eu comes out a lot cheaper, then you'll have to forgive me
)
-
I think I'm choosing Mojave instead of Nexus because I wan't 9800M GTX and Quad core. Or I may choose T9600 and get Blu-ray...
-
Isn't a Mojave a 17" though? Which size would you rather have? I guess that will be the main selling point for most people. I know that it is for me.
-
-
Nice picture's, didnt know it would be an exact copy of the one from the sager-website (with all the different selections of paintjobs, colors of casing etc).
Not that im in a hurry, but I like to know what to order in beforehand, im looking to have atleast placed my order before the end of july, preferably payed it aswell. When will the group-discount be released, and possible reduce in price for removing vista in the order? -
@gurkburk: as soon as Heliosvector can get back online, and the moderators give us green light. Not more than a couple of days. I hope I'll have my laptop by the end of July
On a side note, what would be the better choice for a hard drive in the Mojave? The 320 GB 5400 RPM from WD or the 320 GB 7200 RPM that is offered? What brand is the 7200 RPM?
I've heard complaints about the Seagate 320GB 7200 RPM so I'm a bit hesitant towards buying one... -
if possible we should try to agree on a cpu and gfx as this would bring the price down... just saying... order 5 or more tends to give some discounts...
-
-
And I haven't seen any graphs comparing power consumption and noise between the two.
I'll be taking the 9800 GT, and the P8600 (since I consider it to be best bang 4 the buck. 60£ more for a P9500 is a bit much.
In a Mojave btw. -

I tried to find pictures/reviews/something about all the different paints from kobalt, but came up dead.
Id really like to see some off the matt: white, grey, gunmetal grey(?) and black.
TBH, glossy to, off the above.
Are there still those silver-details as in the picture that got posted after my picture-question on all the models to? (Id really really like one of em, with pure matt paint, no blingbling, no logos, modelnumbers, nametags, nothing).
Perhaps Neil can answer the above? If I order some custom paintjob perhaps? (The custom being absolutely nothing). -

Couple of replies until Helios gets his broadband back....
200GB 7,200rpm Seagate/Hitachi depending on availability
250GB 5,400rpm Western Digital Scorpio
250GB 7,200rpm Western Digital Scorpio Black (launched last week)
320GB 5,400rpm Western Digital Scorpio
320GB 7,200rpm Western Digital Scorpio Black (launched last week)
500GB 5,400rpm Samsung M6 (brand new)
BTW if anyone was wondering why the Samsung 64GB SSD is more expensive than the OCZ 128GB SSD it's because the OCZ is dual layer. Using dual layer brings the price down considerably but also brings the performance down a little too. For example we benchmarked a 32GB Samsung SSD at a sustained read speed of 189MB/s. An OCZ 32GB SSD will read at 140MB/s so, though slightly slower, it's still 2.5 times faster than a Samsung 500GB desktop drive let alone a 2.5" notebook HDD. -

You can select the area of paint, colour/effect and finish. There are quite a few reviews of our paint around, see
http://www.techradar.com/products/computing/laptops-portable-pcs/laptops/kobalt-computers-mojave-xi--269620/review
and here:
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/04/18/kobalt_has_some_sweet_gaming_notebooks/1
both of these paint jobs are classed as "Special Edition" which is like a pre-configured custom paint job. Anything which is customer specific artwork is either a "logo" or "custom design" option.
EDIT: btw our painted Comanche (D901C) tops are now completely flat - no badge area -
I'm wondering if there are any physical examples of the difference between the grey shade offered, and the gun metal one...
-
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
All the pics of colours are actually digital photos of 29 painted 0.5mm aluminium panels we had done so the colours should be pretty accurate. I have the original photos which might show the difference between the greys better, I'll see if I can dig them out.

-
anyways, i am back and i will update the page in about 4 hours from now. (late for work)
I will also call neil to get everything settled. -
Another question from me
:
Would it be possible to order the 2GB ram, but in one dimm, not dual channel 2x1GB dimms?
I plan to upgrade the ram later on, and it would save me the hassle of selling both 1GB dimms, and when buying the 2 2GB dimms. This way, I will only have to buy one 2GB dimm.
I may sound silly with all these questions, but I am trying to save as much as I can, I have already went above my original budget, which was around 800 pounds, but when I saw this laptop, well I must have it.

The WD Scorpio Blue is the 320 GB 5400 RPM, and the WD Scorpio Black is the 320 GB 7200 RPM.
If you read the site, you'll see that the Scorpio Blue scores on par with the Scorpio Black (the difference is almost never more than 5%) in benchmarks, but in real life performance the difference is a bit more noticeable. Noise levels and power consumption are the same.
Since the difference between the two is only 26£, the 7200 RPM is the logical choice, but nobody 'needs' the difference between the 5400 RPM and the 7200 RPM.
On the other hand, new software might take more advantage of the Scorpio Black. -
a shame that they don't offer swedish/finnish keyboards...
mycizmo got them so I can't see why kobalt shouldn't have them -
I didn't even know there were so many keyboards
